Man Man – Spooky Jookie Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I can't swear by this, but I'm fairly sure the line is "...and his tears sting like disease" rather than "...and it's tasting like disease". I also think it's "Her fingers burn when she folds them away". It doesn't make much more sense, though, so I'm not positive. And I agree with ikefox, it definitely seems to be about drug abuse. Great song. |
Man Man – Life Fantastic Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pretty sure the first line is "I'll trip a life fandango", rather than "lie". To "trip the life fandango" isn't exactly a common phrase, but it does exist, and makes more sense than "lie". |
Man Man – Knuckle Down Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Nice transcript there, ikefox. I'd make a few changes though: "A time for now, despise" = "Type of man I despise" "She tells me what to do" = "He tells me what to do" ("He" being the Devil) "Barely just what I need" = "Bayonet's just what I need" A kickass song, indeed. |
Man Man – Shameless Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Poke a stray at a shell game" = "Orchestrate a shell game" |
The Hold Steady – Slapped Actress Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Just a small correction: I'm 99% sure it's "We're dust in the spotlights" as opposed to "dusting". My favorite song on the album. Very "meta". |
The Hold Steady – Joke About Jamaica Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Um, correcting the one I was "sure" about earlier, it's actually: "The new girls were coming up Like some *white* unopened flowers" And the more I listen, the more I'm sure about the other two lyrics I mentioned. |
The Hold Steady – Joke About Jamaica Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Sure about this: "The new girls are coming up Like some light unopened flowers" Not as sure about these: "We were wasps with new wings" and "Some bashes and some bloody fights" Great song either way. This album is just amazing. |
Wolf Parade – Fine Young Cannibals Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I realize it's a matter of taste, but I strongly disagree that Dan has the best songs on AMZ. I feel the same way about them as I did with his songs on Apologies -- they're more accessible, immediately catchy, but don't hold up over time. Spencer's stuff only gets better with 10,20+ listens, in my opinion. Anyway...yeah. "Fine Young Cannibals" is still a great song. |
Wolf Parade – An Animal In Your Care Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"You put your ribbons in my hair" -- reminds me of "If you ride over there they'll put bows in your hair" from "The Men Are Called Horsemen There" (Sunset Rubdown). That song seems to be about sexuality, or lack thereof, and this one definitely alludes to emasculation, with the narrator being only a pet to the subject of the song. Great tune. |
