k so i just read my comment again cuz i couldnt remember exactly what i said and i realized that i sound anti-religious which im definitely not. i'm catholic, im wearing a cross as i type this. What i meant was that it annoys me to no end when people find out that he's very christian and just decide that means everything he sings must be about God. ("He's VERY religious so this song is about his amazing connection with God.")Can't religion and music be separated sometimes? it's not like just because a person's religious it automatically means they can't sing about anything else. Sorry i'm being so nitpicky about this but w/e. |

I wouldn't say it's about one specific category of people. its basically calling out all the fakes that conform to certain trends to try and find their place in the "music scene." While there are some who genuinly follow these trends because its simply their style and its not their fault there are people copying them, this song is fucking fantastic in that it calls out the ones that are fake (ex: dress emo or punk but when you talk to them you realize they're actually preppy). So I'm pretty sure I repeated myself in there but whatever i got my point across...i hope. |

OK SO FIRST OF ALL JUST BECAUSE A PERSON IS RELIGIOUS DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THAT THEIR SONGS ARE ALL ABOUT GOD. IF SOMEONE WOULD JUST PICK UP THE ACTUAL CD AND READ THE LYRICS INSIDE YOU'D NOTICE THAT THE WORD "YOU" ISN'T CAPITALIZED IN IT WHICH MEANS IT'S NOT IN REFERENCE TO GOD.

ok yeah so that question's been answered about a bajillion times, yes, hats is the opening word, and yes its the high hats on the drums that he's referring to but its really frustrating me that no one can answer my question...ok so the line "Celebrate, infatuate, lock us up yeah incarcerate oh!" kinda confuses me. can anyone clarify how that fits into the song? |

I don't really think this can be about an ex because it says "It's been two whole years" and he married his high school sweetheart so I dont really see how he could have had a breakup two years ago.
I'm aslo gonna have to disagree with the Tara thing because he always talks about how she's always been his rock and such.
I also dont know about the whole friend thing cuz its his best friends with him on tour performing in concert with him. So I'm not sure what it's about unless he has another best friend he didnt include in the live band. |

I'm not sure if anybody already said this because to be honest, i didnt read all the comments, it got to be too much work. but anyway, this song isnt about God for one simple reason in the lyrics typed in the cover of the CD case of Hello, Good Friend, "you" and other such words, arent capitalized and they would be if they referred to God.
