I completely agree with you. This song feels very similar to The River by Pucifer (One of Maynard's side projects).

Alter Bridge – Wonderful Life Lyrics 13 years ago
On the official Alter Bridge blog entry for AB III, Myles is quoted as saying, "The lyric was inspired by the idea that there will come a day when we all must say goodbye to the ones we love and hold dear in our hearts. Basically, I asked myself what would I want to say in that final moment, that last goodbye?”

He's also said, although I can't find the source, that the song is about a man losing his wife to disease.

This is an extremely touching song, right on par with In Loving Memory.

Deftones – Digital Bath Lyrics 15 years ago
It seems to me like he's talking about the birth of a son.

I can't explain every line, word for word.

That would take too long.

But the line, "Tonight I feel like more" really touched me.

Anyone who's ever had a child knows what I'm talking about.

Listen to the song again, while reading the lyrics, and keep that thought in mind.

It makes it so much more beautiful.

A Perfect Circle – A Stranger Lyrics 16 years ago
So put it all together, and you've basically got the story behind "A Stranger".

Basically, it's saying that God used us, purposely tempting us with a test He knew we would fail, just to temp the beast into coming out of hiding.

And then he kicks them out of Eden, just to run with the Devil, allowing Satan to get overconfident and cocky. Lucifer would then attack, being vanquished by The One, and ending his reign. But all in all, we were the bait. The worm on the hook. Used as TOOLs.

At least, that's what it means to me.

You all, however, will have different, just as correct, interpretations.

A Perfect Circle – A Stranger Lyrics 16 years ago
After deep thought into the meaning of this song, I believe I've found the truth.

Following MJK's religious themes, I correlated the words from the song to the words of Genesis.

Think of this as a 3rd Person Omniscient character narrating the acts of God in Genesis.

"Cast the calming apple"
Plant the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

"Up and over satellites"
Satellites can be used to describe smaller likenesses of a greater being, much like humans are smaller likenesses of God.

"To draw out the timid wild one"
The Devil is the Timid Wild One. He is the wild one that comes calmly and convincingly.

"To convince you it's alright"
The Devil convinced Adam and Eve it was alright to eat the fruit of the tree.

"And I listen for the whisper of your sweet insanity"
Listen for the whisper, aka repercussions, of your insanity.

"While I formulate denials of your effect on me"
This is God, upset and torn apart by what these silly humans have done, trying to tell himself he doesn't need them.

"What am I to do with all this silence"
God is no longer directly talking to Adam and Eve, as he once did.

"Shy away, shy away phantom"
Speaking to God, telling him to 'shy away'.

"Run away terrified child"
Speaking to Adam and Eve, the children of God.

"Won't you move away you fuckin tornado. I'm better off without tearing my will down"
God convincing himself that humans only destroy, and ruin the will of God.

More later.

A Perfect Circle – Blue Lyrics 16 years ago
Like EVERY SINGLE SONG EVER WRITTEN BY MJK, this song has a double meaning/double symbolism.

The more obvious one is as follows.

A man finding out about his lovers infidelity. The lines
1)I didn't want to know (referring to his not wanting to know about the affair)
2)Best to keep things in the shallow end (referring to her being shallow)
3)Close my eyes just to look at you (anyone who's ever been cheated on will tell you when they first found out, every time they closed their eyes, all they could see was a vivid and painful reenactment of the act)

He may also be killing her in a fit of rage, supported by the lines
1)She's turning blue. Such a lovely color for you. (referring to the color of her skin, as he drowns her)
2)She's turning blue, while I just sit and stare at you. (referring to him watching her die)
3)Just ignore the smoke (referring to him burning something, maybe a house, their house. Or maybe the body of the man involved in the affair)

I also believe the lines
1)Just ignore the smoke
2)She's turning blue

Not only refer to him burning and drowning something physical, but also refer to him trying to kill the memories, the relationship, the past he once had.

Some of you will disagree.

But the enlightened ones, the ones that have lived through times like the ones described in this song...

You will see.

See the true meaning.

A Perfect Circle – Magdalena Lyrics 16 years ago
Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute. The catholic church denounced that a few hundred years ago. She was a true disciple of Jesus Christ, and because she was a woman, the catholic church wouldn't allow it to be told that way. Corruption in the church.

Which is what I believe this song is about.

He's not speaking of Mary herself, but using her as a reference to the church.

The Magdalena in the song is not Mary Magdalene, but the church itself, and everything the church represents.

He's speaking of the corruption of the church, comparing it to a common whore (Mary). How the church is interested only in money, and will do anything to acquire it.

But I suspect Maynard knows the story of Mary, and that she was not a whore.

I think he has hope for Christianity. Hope that they can prove him wrong through change. Become the thing it once was. A tool for salvation, not a pathway to riches.

Mary, once known as a whore, was found to be pure. Her reputation cleansed.

Maybe the church can do the same. Known as a "whore". One day it will be found pure. It's reputation also cleansed.

A Perfect Circle – The Nurse Who Loved Me (Failure cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
I believe this song, when originally written by Failure, WAS about drugs. Unquestionably.

However, I also believe that Maynard adds a second meaning into it, much like every other song he's ever sang. Lol.

From the way he sings it, and the way he makes you focus on certain words, I think he's talking about a call girl. NOT a prostitute. Call girls let you do whatever it is that you want with her. They're reputedly clean, classy ladies. So it should be relatively safe for him to eat her out, as described here :

"Say hello to the rug's topography
It holds quite a lot of interest with your face down on it "
The rug is the vagina.

"Say hello to the shrinking in your head
You can't see it but you know its there so don't neglect it "
The guilt he will undoubtedly feel when it's all over.

"She's falling hard for me I can see it in her eyes
She acts just like a nurse with all the other guys"
A call girl will dress up however you ask her, for a price of course.

"Say hello to all the apples on the ground
They were once in your eyes but you sneezed them out while sleeping
Say hello to everything you've left behind
It's even more a part of your life now that you can't touch it "
He's talking about her dreams, before she gave them up to do what she does. (sleeping = sleeping around)

Don't get me wrong. As I said, I believe this song was about drugs before hand. But still. This is the reason Maynard is famous. Double meanings and songs about sex. Lol.
