Underoath – To Whom It May Concern Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i definitely think this song is about having something better to look forward to. basically, earth is "not the end of the road" (there's something more). "at the end of the road (when you die), you'll find what you're looking for (meeting God/reaching heaven)". "i was lost...had no place to call home" (had no faith). "in this place, we're all as good as dead" - on earth, everyone dies. i could be stretching it, but it's what makes the most sense to me. |
Jamies Elsewhere – Burn Away Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is about God for sure. first part of the song is about wanting God to show Himself to you through something physical (the ground beneath my feet) or through signs (a SUMMER breeze through WINTER trees). as he waits for God to show Himself he'll just watch the world destroy itself. |
Jamies Elsewhere – A Slave A Son Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I would definitely say this song is a Christian song. The first stanza is about God being faithful, the second one is missing but it's about the writer being faithful. The third is about Jesus dying on a cross, and the fourth is about, well, that part I'm not one hundred percent sure on, but the last part of it is about maintaining faith. second stanza looks like it's mixed with the 4th. 2nd is: Catch me in your arms Like stars in the eyes of telescopes, And once there I rest, Never let me go. no, Never let me go such a good song. i love it so much. can't wait for their new CD... |
As Cities Burn – The Hoard Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is awesome. i really like it. anyways, here's what i got out of it: there are some people that are "holier than thou" and try to push the fact they've abstained from drinking and smoking and stuff, and ACB is saying "just because you've abstained from drinking and smoking doesn't mean you're perfect, you still need grace like the rest of us. and for the rest of us that have made mistakes [busy being young], we still have grace and forgiveness". they're not condoning drinking and smoking, but rather saying "ok, so you've messed up, you still have a shot". and i think "grace make your way to the well" is definitely an allusion to the Woman at the Well and grace is Jesus. oh, and gibson, you're WAY off, man. Underoath is not politically correct about their faith, they just have much deeper lyrics... read below the surface. |
As Cities Burn – Empire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is about thinking you have it all, and then realizing you don't. At first he said he had everything. He was the good kid in his parents' eyes, he had the smile of an angel on the outside, but on the inside he was evil (and probably didnt know it, "hiding a vulture's bite"). Then he says he has it all, he doesn't need God - he has all the glory in himself he needs. basically we are our own gods (hearts at OUR feet). After that, it says he was blind (a pharisee), never seeing his need for Grace. then he found it and realized what he had been missing out. Then it says "Glory, glorious. We are glory, glorious. Not for what good we have done, but for being the least (glorious, God is much more glorious)." love this song... |

this song is so amazing. if you guys like ABR, check out Life In Your Way - the vocalist sounds just like Jake but then there is singing. but definitely this song is so well written. chills for sure. |
August Burns Red – The Balance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It seems like this song is about the people that give up what they believe in just to 'go with the flow' and fit in. They're saying that once you used to stand out against things you believed were wrong, but now you're 'taking pills' that make you think like everyone else... you're getting rid of your identity when you choose to be like everyone else. I think it also means that once you submit to society then society begins to mold you into a different person - "your thoughts are ours to manipulate". Could be way off, but it's what makes sense to me. |
Oh Sleeper – We Are The Archers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
kotjy, this song is about war, but i definitely think it's a metaphor. he's talking about how he's at war with himself and every time temptation enters he is not strong enough, so he calls on God (his archer) for backup and support to defeat the urge. |

Sounds to me like Darfur, or some place like it. |

I also think this song is about people that would rather argue about religion and set people back rather than make the world a better place. I think he's basically saying "all this time we've spent burning the witches, we could have been helping", for example. |

Yeah, I agree. I think he's questioning and actually defying God at first and wonders why he is still alive, but then realizes he's there for a reason. |

I agree with speedbeast. |

I could be way off, but I believe that it's about people taking advantage of religion to use it for themselves. Like going to war for your religion, but the actual religion wouldn't want you to go to war. Leaders using religion to push an agenda basically. |
The Receiving End Of Sirens – Wanderers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Gutzs, I never really thought about it like that, and I noticed the religious references too. Anyways, I think this song is about him not trying hard and making mistakes. After he finds out he's going to be a father (notice it comes before Stay Small) he doesn't want to his daughter to end up like him (burning out and letting his 'flame' die). |
The Receiving End Of Sirens – Stay Small Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't understand, why at the beginning of the song does he say "son", but later in the song use the word "girl"? Why the switch of genders? |
