Kittie – Oracle Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's screaming, you dink. |
Emilie Autumn – Juliet Lyrics | 13 years ago |
um, guys? romeo and juliet is NOT the greatest love story ever told. these two idiots kill themselves and lead their families into unnecessary grief that only ends when they realize how goddamn crazy both their families are. were they in love? yes. is it romantic? absolutely fucking not. |
Emilie Autumn – Never Tasted Tears (Poem) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think it's pretty obvious the man she's lamenting/missing isn't an actual man nor a relationship she had. She specifically refers to him as a muse, someone to see in dreams, and someone to whom she never even said hello to, so I don't think this is about a previous relationship. I think she's mourning the loss of a dream/ideal lover when met with a real, flesh and blood person to love. |
Dir En Grey – [S] (English) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The "S" is for sadist. Just like "M" in other Dir en grey songs refers to "masochist." |
Apocalyptica – Bring Them To Light Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Fucking awesome song. |
Emilie Autumn – Thank God I'm Pretty Lyrics | 13 years ago |
She's implying these things happen because someone out there finds her attractive or appealing enough to target and make into a victim -- ergo, they find her "pretty." She's not saying it only happens to pretty women. |
Emilie Autumn – Thank God I'm Pretty Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Congratulations for being retarded. |
Sneaker Pimps – Grazes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Cannot face the grazes = his lover, or ex-lover's, brushes and flirtations with new men? I can't fake the grazes = he can't fake that his run-ins with his love/ex-lover don't affect him in some way? If you can't face the grazes = if you can't face the contact, the run-ins, with truth and/or infidelity? |
Sneaker Pimps – Grazes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's not called Crazes--just checked Amazon and it doesn't say Crazes anywhere but, alas, Grazes. So, y'know. It's called Grazes. |
Dir En Grey – Increase Blue (English) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This comment was originally aimed at a translation of a Buck-Tick song, but I thought it was worth mentioning here as it might shed some further light on the song in question: "*The English word “blue” is often used as a symbol in contemporary Japan for sex or sexual content. The title of “Perfect Blue,” Kon Satoshi’s movie about an idol and sexual insanity; the hentai anime “La Blue Girl;” and “Increase Blue,” Dir en grey’s song about a porn star, are just three examples." obtained from: http://notgreatestsite.net/lyrics/bt/ |
Amanda Palmer – Another Year: A Short History of Almost Something Lyrics | 14 years ago |
it would be seen as a depressing/suicidal song because of the "i think i'll wait another year" line, which suggests she'll give life one more shot for just one more year. she lists these very shallow, flimsy reasons of why she shouldn't die, without sounding very enthusiastic about it. twin peaks bill hicks cd "i have my friends and my career i'm getting smaller by degrees you said you'd help me disappear" she already established that her friends don't think much of her ("mime their sighing violins"), thus this whole song is basically saying "i'll wait another year to see how things work out--if they don't, i'll do it." it being suicide. that's how i've always heard this song. |
Dir En Grey – Conceived Sorrow (English) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i hate people who say stupid shit like "KYO IS PRO LIFE LOLOL" when this translation is not only bad but the line about pregnancy is wrong. and obscure's meaning is, you know, obscure. hence the title. fucking idiots. |
Blue Foundation – Eyes on Fire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
No, it wasn't. This song has nothing to do with Twilight besides being chosen to appear in the film. |
Blue Foundation – Eyes on Fire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song has nothing to do with Twilight, as it was written before the film even came out. Parallels to be made therefore seem irrelevant to me, as any connection is clearly a coincidence or a total leap made on the part of the analyzers... |
Dir En Grey – Glass Skin (English) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
absolutely beautiful and vulnerable. |
Amanda Palmer – The Living Room Lyrics | 15 years ago |
THAN* playing at a venue. ugh. |
Amanda Palmer – The Living Room Lyrics | 15 years ago |
sheela: i'm really certain it's more about ben, her friend who passed away, then playing at a venue... i know the living room is a venue, but people also used to hold "viewings" of the deceased in their own homes. probably in living room. plus the title is likewise slightly double-intended, considering it's about being at a funeral (the dead) and it's a LIVING room. sorta like how it's ridiculous to call it a "wake" when they can't... |
Dir En Grey – Sajou No Uta (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
^ That's what everyone says to any Diru song that is even slightly about love. |
Dir En Grey – Dozing Green (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Kise: How does a kid who lied about his age both on here and Myspace, and who lives in Georgia, happen to know a Japanese musician? Oh wait that's right it's the internet. I must say, however, that Dozing Green is a wonderful song. I didn't think to look up the lyrics until recently and this one song has redeemed the entire 'Marrow of a Bone' album for me (I liked Marrow, don't get me wrong, but some of the songs and their lyrics left much to be desired). |
Dir En Grey – Hades (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Just like how Hydra had nothing to do with the song, I don't think Hades has much to do with it. Oh well D: |
Dir En Grey – Byo [] Shin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
GiveRise stop being so butthurt. Honestly it just comes across as pathetic... I like both the old and new versions, yes with both SINGING STYLES and BOTH LANGUAGES, REGARDLESS IF IT'S JAPANESE OR ENGLISH. |
Dir En Grey – Embryo (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It can't be about a son because the victim of the rape gets pregnant in the end. |
Dir En Grey – Bottom of the Death Valley (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
When I saw a performance of this song, during the line "My Sister, Mother Is Sister mother loved the white ocean" he made a motion of injecting something into the bend of his elbow and quite literally the song just fell into place for me. Whether he based information off of that woman in the news, or he fabricated bits of his own I don't know. To be honest the "My sister, mother is sister" bit reminds me of... well, actually an episode of Doctor Who where a teenage girl during the blitz takes care of a boy she calls her younger brother--when in actually she's his mother and is ashamed for having a child so young and out of wedlock. I will admit, though, that I don't know if I can apply this concept to this song. It's going totally over my head. D: |
Dir En Grey – Filth (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
enarchy: "Everyone can care less about why you commentators like or enjoy the song,Everyone can care less about why you commentators like or enjoy the song," It's COULDN'T care less. "Can care less" implies that you do care to some extent. "Couldn't care less" means you don't give even a third of a shit. So... I couldn't care less about how you think some of the comments here aren't part of the "site's meaning." Cope. |
Dir En Grey – 24ko Cylinder (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
God, again and again Diru impress me or make me totally speechless with their songs. Not even just the music, which is ALWAYS solid and amazing, but Kyo's lyrics. ;-; |
Dir En Grey – New Age Culture (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The lyrics pretty much sum up the song's title perfectly. New Age Culture, at least in this song, is one of pigs, false identity, shallow happiness and unjust expectations thrust on a person. And Kyo, bless him, rejects it all. |
Dir En Grey – The Deeper Vileness Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is THE perfect song to aim at all the shitheads who get butthurt about Diru's changing musical style. |
Dir En Grey – The Pledge Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"My best friend commited suicide to this song. T_T Makes me crii every time i hear it. Anyways, yeah. Kyo adds plenty of emotion. ^_^ it's good" You're remarkably well adjusted. |
Dir En Grey – Rotting Root (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A few things come to mind here: Rotting Root--well, a 'root' of something can also be it's core, it's beginning, it's origins... the fact he throws in 'Mother' makes me lean towards this theory a little bit more, as well as the lines: "I may be tainted But I can't forgive them Ever..." So ... this is a song about a person "rotten to the core," or so damaged it's somehow messed up the cornerstone of what it means for them to be a person/human, but it doesn't appear to be his/her fault. Actually the fact Kyo mentions "I can never forgive them" and "FATE" kind of makes me wonder if he's deliberately contradicting himself with a sentence that supports 'Nurture' and one word that implies 'Nature.' "I give you all a lie worth nothing and screams" and "Let my hostile voice be heard as I live this moment" make me think of when Kyo is on stage singing, perhaps written specifically so that WHEN he sings this song he can channel that thought. As for "fuckin tricky men" I refuse to believe that's what it is cos it sounds no where NEAR that. O_o and normally his English, though accented, sounds close to the word. This honestly does sound like "Fuck it, somehow" or "Fuck it's an owl!" I'm gonna go with the latter--Kyo is not a fan of teh night birdz. |
Dir En Grey – Grief (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Y'know, as much as I'd hate to think of political songs, the way I'm gonna see this song is as one of a political nature. |
Dir En Grey – Taiyou No Ao (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Kyo: Yes. And then that guitarist formed a new band and that girl was staff for that band. And we would meet a lot when we played together and such. That was so, so painful. Again and again I truly felt like I was going to die. At that time I wanted to escape that so there was nothing to do but find another girl." Holy *shit* can I ever relate to the emotional implications of that. Plus a similar situation :( However... there is actually a rather beautiful and poignant 'light of hope' in this song, right near the end: "I can be wounded I am wounded people hide their scars, but/I myself will cross over, and show scars that become beautiful flowers." Yes, you've been hurt, yes you've endured pain and hardships, received wounds from them and some might still be healing--but they don't always have to be badges of shame. I mean, the song itself can be see as taking pain and making it into something beautiful. Call me sappy but I feel like Diru does this with ... well, almost all of their songs of this nature: it channels a pain so intense and makes it into something almost beautiful, no matter the subject matter. |
Dir En Grey – Zakuro (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I started sobbing when I saw the "Blitz" performance of it, too... actually all your comments on here made me go check it out for myself. I almost wish I didn't :( I can't unsee~ Either way, this song deserves a shit-ton more recognition than it's getting on here and that makes me sad. For everyone who speculates about how Kyo's songs referring to heartache/betrayal have to deal with that business of his past, look no further than this song: one only needs to see the Blitz performance to be lead to that conclusion. Goddammit, Kyo :( |
Dir En Grey – Audrey (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
......... What I wanna know is why Kyo called this 'Audrey' D: |
Dir En Grey – Wake Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The version I have is Riyuu/Wake. That kinda splits the difference :P Still, this is a very (surprisingly) beautiful song.. |
Dir En Grey – Deity Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The intro part of this song is one of the most disturbing I've heard for a band, but so clever and creative at the same time. |
Dir En Grey – Amber (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Mushi of Dieu: that's a really kind thing of you to offer. I can't even begin to speculate what this song is about... I'm honestly too stricken by the translation. Again and again, Kyo's lyrics never fail to impress me or leave me in a state near tears. and yes, his performance of this on 'Code of Vulgar[ism]' is AMAZING. That whole DVD was fantastic. |
Dir En Grey – Mushi (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I didn't need the translation to 'get' the emotional gist of the song, but I'll be damned if the translation doesn't KILL ME. Oh Kyo, :( Oh to *anyone* who has ever felt this way. It's so heartbreaking. SentiMetal: Who freakin' cares if he had an 'average life' and suffered typical heartbreaks? Just because a person doesn't have a rough life doesn't mean they can't express pain or emotions that stem from a deeper, more excruciating existence--how foolish of you to suggest such a thing. If anything this shows the depth of Kyo's creativity as a lyricist and especially as a vocalist: he can express the emotions in such a way that even if you don't know Japanese you can *feel* what he's saying. |
Dir En Grey – Asunaki Koufuku, Koenaki Asu Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I adore the beat to this song and how Kyo sings it--for lack of a better word, it just sounds "funky." You can groove to it. Funny how that works out, considering its meaning. |
Dir En Grey – Asunaki Koufuku, Koenaki Asu (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I actually think this song is about an almost typical behavior accepted/expected in Japan amongst its own people--the line that brought this to my attention was the whole "The social face, the private face, it's nice to see you use it both so nicely" line. There's a "public persona" that you adopt when dealing with people around you, obviously in public, in a place of work, neighbors, etc., and then there's the you, the real you--the private face. I seem to remember this being a cause of such strife and distress amongst the younger generation in particular, because of being so two-faced and it just leads you to feel so... split, I guess. Obviously we know Kyo's stance on this as the line continues to say: "Well, thank you I haven't thrown away being human... No more whitewashing." White-washing can be read as "sugar-coating" (though I'm NOT saying that's the translation!), in that you don't paint something up to be more 'pleasing.' Show your face and yourself for who and what you are. |
Dir En Grey – Hydra Lyrics | 16 years ago |
LOL so this, kinda like JESSICA, is sort of taking a stab at Sid Vicious and that whole.. mindset, I guess?, of glorifying the man? God bless Kyo's cleverness. |
Dir En Grey – Mr. Newsman (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Clearly it's a very apathetic and hostile response to fear-mongering news reporters. |
Dir En Grey – Machiavellism (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I would like to thank deadxlettersxc for making me enjoy this song a helluva lot more than I would have already. |
Dir En Grey – Audience Killer Loop (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song to death. I'm also totally haunted by the version of it on the "Code of Vulgar[ism]" DVD. Kyo's scream in the beginning gives me CHILLS. |
Dir En Grey – Mazohyst Of Decadence (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think I read somewhere that this song is about the "casual" stance in Japan about abortion--is this true? The casual stance, I mean. Anyway, I'm pro-choice but this song still gives me the chills. It almost makes me question my stance--not that I'd jump on the anti-choice/pro-life/whatever you want to call it bandwagon just from hearing this song, but it makes me want to take the position of just "be more careful" instead of resorting to a medical procedure of a tricky, gray moral ground. That's kind of how I see the song. Clearly Kyo is expressing a *very* graphic description of his views and opinions, but I still interpret it as this outcry against a woman who would thoughtlessly commit to abortion--I don't think *all* women who have abortions are like this, mind you, just that I've heard of some scenarios where women just treat it like you get a tooth pulled or a tonsil removed. It has much more depth than that. Much, much more. And so does the song, so! Kudos to Diru for it. |
Dir En Grey – Agitated Screams of Maggots Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Um, I don't know what half of you are talking about: I can understand what he's saying when reading the lyrics. Hell you can HEAR him saying the English words when you have them right in front of you. O_o A lot of bands are like that, too--not even Japanese ones but English-native speakers have singing styles that aren't "coherent" English until you see the words and then you can HEAR the singer saying them. Just use your brains. |
Dir En Grey – Clever Sleazoid Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm really surprised this is in English, haha. I love it though D: |
Dir En Grey – Sajou No Uta (English) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this feels like the antithesis of all those happy summer songs some japanese artists release--mostly the pop artists, who have a 'summer single' that's usually upbeat and cheerful, and then a winter ballad to counter it. while the music of this song certainly feels upbeat, and if you don't know what he's saying it certainly feels that way, i actually really like this song. it's surprisingly tender for a diru track. |
Dir En Grey – Obscure Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"This song is a song about abortion and how heartless it is. It is your fault if you got pregnant. For those of you who have aborted, this is for you." Oh go fuck yourself. Get off your self-righteous dais and stand down like the rest of us: you've no right to go on a pedestal because you're human and have made mistakes, too. Wanker. |
