Lucie Silvas – Those Hands Lyrics 13 years ago
What a fab song. I think everyone has experienced that feeling when you see the person you love (or once loved) with someone else. Whilst obviously feeling jealous, there is also an overwhelming feeling of sadness and the realisation that the person you love has moved on and you are no longer their number one. Even if you were dumped long ago it's still a horrible feeling and brings the pain flooding back.

I've always felt the same! Maybe the video has slightly swayed me, but i know exactly what you mean: something about it gives me the vibe...

"This was included in the first batch of songs recorded. It's about how first impressions can change and how they really have the power to affect the world around you."

The Offspring – A Thousand Days Lyrics 15 years ago
I've always thought that this song was about a bad relationship, although I do like the war interpretations above too. Basically the relationship is causing both people pain and they keep hurting one another, but they keep reaching for one another and going through it all again, although they don't know why. It seems to have been going on for a thousand days (i.e. a really long time!). He says that he wants to leave and win at love (in other words find a happier relationship) but just can't let the relationship go. I think that when he says 'action and intention are two separate things' he means that each time they reach for one another again they intend things to be different but they never are. It's a vicious, never-ending circle.

Lucie Silvas – Already Gone Lyrics 15 years ago
This song makes me cry, there's real emotion there when Lucie's singing. It's so sad trying to hold on to something that's over, particularly when you still love someone and it's clear that they don't love you in the same way anymore. She knows that the end is as inevitable as the sun setting and has finally accepted that it's over. She doesn't need him to pretend to her anymore: he's there physically but she knows that his heart's not in it anymore.

Lucie Silvas – Alone Lyrics 15 years ago
I love this song! While it's important to retain your independence when in a relationship, I think in this case she has withdrawn too much and is scared of relying on her boyfriend and giving in to the relationship. When he tries to reach out to her she withdraws from him. She seems defensive and determined to stay by herself, despite being in a relationship. She's trying to convince him that she is his, but needs her own space. You have to wonder whether she's been hurt in a relationship before and is trying to protect herself this time.

Mandy Moore – Hey Lyrics 15 years ago
When this song was on her website prior to her new album I absolutely loved it and was disappointed when it wasn't released, but it completely pales into insignificance when compared to the songs on Wild Hope, and it wouldn't have fitted with the tone of the album at all! Hearing it again now it's definitely not as good as I remember, I think I was just desperate for anything new from Mandy! It certainly is catchy though, and I like the theme: it's so annoying when you have struggled to get over someone and they pop up again out of the blue. It stirs up old feelings and throws you into turmoil again.

Sophie B. Hawkins – Don't Don't Tell Me No Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about throwing yourself into a new relationship whole-heartedly, and not worrying about what might happen. I think it's about a lesbian relationship because at the end she sings "never let her go" and I think that adds another dimension to the song as it may be hard to stay together in the wake of discrimination and prejudice, and Sophie is urging her lover to stick with it and assuring her that she loves her. She shouldn't worry about what other people might think and should trust in what she's feeling.

The Strokes – Trying Your Luck Lyrics 16 years ago
Reading other people's analysis has helped me to form my own, so thanks! I think in the first half the girl has blown him off ("you said you couldn't stay") and he's bitter about it ("at least i'm on my own again instead of anywhere with you").
Then in the chorus he decides to give it another go and manages to convince the girl to come back to him. When she does he gets cold feet this time and he blows her off, whether because he's unsure about the relationship or out of revenge, i think the former. He then regrets it when she goes back to someone else. I think the guy who 'sets off her alarms' is a guy who she's attracted to, and the line "I can't be here in time, I'll think about that" is him thinking to himself how he's mucked it up and it's too late now.

Funeral for a Friend – Streetcar Lyrics 16 years ago
Also, the fact that the line says "I CAN'T feel the same about you anymore" rather than " I DON'T feel the same" suggests that he's made a conscious decision not to love her anymore as it's too hard. His feelings haven't changed by themselves, he's making them change.

Funeral for a Friend – Streetcar Lyrics 16 years ago
I definitely think this song is about a long-distance relationship. He's at home and she's gone off somewhere, and made a new life for herself, with new confidence and new best friends, such as when you go to uni or move to a new area without your partner. They are conducting their relationship over the phone, hence the dial tones etc. He feels left behind, and misses her like crazy ("praying for our lips to touch"), but he thinks she's moved on, and so he can't feel the same about her anymore because it's hurting him too much. I think that the fact that he says "I'll be here when you get home" means that he hasn't given up on them and when she gets back he hopes that they will get back together, as he'll still be waiting for her.

Lucie Silvas – Breathe In Lyrics 16 years ago
"wipe the dust from you sweet smile" - I always thought it meant that they hadn't smiled in a while: things get dusty when they're not used. I think that Lucie is racing ahead and her partner/friend is trailing in her wake, and she's trying to persuade him to stick with her and enjoy the journey, and chase after their dreams rather than letting life pass them by.

Lucie Silvas – Sinking In Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song! It's so catchy, but you're right kahree, not exactly a happy song! The guy is playing games, which hurts her because she genuinely likes him. At first she believes he really does like her and it really conveys that excitement when you're flirting with someone and they seem to feel the same, but after a while nothing actually happens and it dawns on you they are messing you about. They aren't going to change their mind and fall for you so the only way you can 'win' is by forgetting about it and walking away from them, which is hard when someone's messing with your head. It's happened to me before: the giddy excitement and happiness followed by the bitter disappointment that nothing is actually going to happen and they don't care about you at all :(

lol calm down dafunk, teardrop3d is 100% correct, the British girl group was called 'The 411' and their song came out in 2004. It was actually called 'Teardrops' and was their 3rd single.

I love this song, never had a clue what it was all about but the cheating thing fits very nicely so thanks to everyone for their interpretations :)

Mandy Moore – Ladies Choice Lyrics 16 years ago
PS do you think that it's called "Ladies' Choice" because her ex was having affairs? (and therefore he was the choice of other ladies?) The colon suggests the plural of ladies. Let me know if you have any insights!!

Mandy Moore – Ladies Choice Lyrics 16 years ago
This reminds me of a guy at work who I really liked but who wasn't doing well and was on the verge of being sacked. I told him what he needed to do in order to keep his job and he basically did the opposite (not to spite me but because he was messed up and incapable of doing what I'd told him). Still makes me sad now he's gone :(

Anyways! Mandy's version is very sad, but in a resigned way: she knew it was coming I think, and so was almost expecting it, even though she warned him of the consequences of his actions. She realises she never really knew him ("goodbye stranger") and is putting on a brave face to him ("you never really threw me off", "I'm far from broken-hearted").

I also love the line: "I miss the version of you...", suggesting that in the beginning it was very different and he truly seemed to love her, including the very private side of her that she had never usually lets people see. This suggests that the fact that she has resigned herself to their fate has only come later, when the bad side of him has shown through. I think she raises her glass to it knowing that the time has come to break up and it is the best thing for her.

Mandy Moore – Wild Hope Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this is a song about blurring into the background and not feeling noticed. It gives me the impression of being lost and alone, and incredibly unhappy. Whilst wanting everything to be alright, I don't think she really believes it will be, and she's drifting through the seasons feeling empty. I imagine she wrote this when in the midst of her depression, or when invoking memories of it. Terribly sad.

The Offspring – I Choose Lyrics 16 years ago
I completely agree with 'yeh', it's about choosing to enjoy your life and roll with the punches rather than letting things get you down. He doesn't know what's going to happen but he trusts his instincts:

"was just enough for me to know the way I feel"

I like that - do what you feel is best for you, and enjoy it because you can't go back and you never know when it's all going to end.

Joey Lawrence – Nothin' My Love Can't Fix Lyrics 16 years ago
Wow, the lyrics to this song have always been a bit of a mystery to me! Good song but the rap is so cheesy!! It's actually very sweet though, the guy seems almost naive, saying that whatever trauma the girl is going through his love will make it better.

The Corrs – Even If Lyrics 16 years ago
lol the official Corrs website lists the lyrics as above, including the "wanna bite you" line. It's catchy but not one of my favourites off the album at all, even though it's an excellent album and dare I say a return to form after In Blue, which i found a little too poppy.

Sophie B. Hawkins – Walking in My Blue Jeans (Strange Thing) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this may be about a woman questioning her relationship. She feels so different and has done so much that it's changed her. She knows that she's hurting her partner but I don't think she's explained it to them properly (the metaphor/actual action of not sending the letter). It's hard to leave or change things because they can't imagine life without one another, but I think she knows deep down that it's time to move on and try something new in order to try and find 'a place for her heart to belong'. It doesn't necessarily mean the end of her relationship - "if we want to we will grow closer together". It's essentially about the uncertainty and disruption of change, in this case a change within herself as opposed to something physical changing in her surroundings.

Crowded House – Fall At Your Feet Lyrics 16 years ago
All the comments on this song are spot on. I think that the woman in the song is a real enigma, and every time he's getting close to her she pulls away before they really become emotionally intimate. He's willing to wait for her and makes it clear that he's there for her, but isn't quite sure if she really wants him. It's actually really sad.

Siobhan Donaghy – Don't Give It Up Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song. I always perceived it being more specifically about that feeling when you're falling in love and it's scary. You know the other person is feeling the same and you're trying to tell them that they need to stick with it and not give up just because it's nerve-wracking and hard. It sounds like they've both been hurt before, which makes it hard to commit again.

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine – The Only Living Boy in New Cross Lyrics 16 years ago
I also love the Britishness of Carter USM, many parts of their songs must be incomprehensible to people of other nations!! This my favourite of theirs: great lyrics, brilliant beat and piano and guitars. It makes me really happy, so the AIDS thing puts a very different spin on it for me... The end section listing "the safe 16 lovers who lied", "Clause 28ers" "rock stars" etc illustrates how diverse the sufferers can be.

Mandy Moore – Breaking Us In Two Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song! I like that it takes some interpretation and isn't straightforward. I've always thought it was one of those 'can't live with them, can't live without them' relationships where they know it would be better for them to split up, despite other people saying how great they are together. I think they've grown apart but it's scary to go it alone and try new things, and neither of them wants to admit that it really is over, even though all the signs are telling them that it is...

Also, the background instrumentals are just beautiful :)

Mandy Moore – Drop The Pilot Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is so positive sounding, although in some respects quite arrogant. Essentially it's saying split up with your current partner and be with me. Even though you're in love with them things can change, and i'm the one you should be with because i can offer you everything that you need (animal, mineral, physical, spiritual), so there is no point fighting it (don't use your army to fight a losing battle). There are also hints that the other person's current relationship isn't that great, with the mention that kissing their partner is like kissing your cousin because there's no passion behind it. A mahout is the person who 'drives' the elephant, like a pilot, and the singer is saying i can give you a better ride if you choose me. Not my favourite song off the Coverage album, but very fun and catchy!
