Animal Collective – Bees Lyrics | 12 years ago |
No, because it does. All songs have tempos. This song has some pretty weird time signatures, though. But that's because of the style, it's Japanese/Chinese traditional folk. Most Eastern music has a very confusing meter. |
Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's about an astronaut who travels too fast and, following Einstein's theories, travels several million years into the future. He then goes back to his home planet, and finds it's all a barren wasteland. Oh let the sun beat down upon my face Stars to fill my dream I am a traveler of both time and space To be where I have been Kind of an introduction. You kind of get this image of an astronaut, sun beating down upon his face, recalling past events. Starts filled his dreams. He travels both space and time, due to the previously mentioned theories. To sit with elders of the gentle race This world has seldom seen They talk of days for which they sit and wait All will be revealed He wanted to go into space to escape Earth, where gentle races are seldom seen. He hopes to gain enlightenment from the aliens. Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace Whose sounds caress my ear But not a word I heard could I relate The story was quite clear This parts a bit vague, I see it as him listening to music from Earth, but finds he can't relate to any of it because the story is quite clear, which will be revealed in the chorus. Oh, I been flying... mama, there ain't no denyin' I've been flying, ain't no denyin', no denyin' He's been flying. xD All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land Trying to find, trying to find where I've been. Returns to his home planet, and it's a giant desert. He can't find any similarities to the planet he once knew. Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace Like thoughts inside a dream Heed the path that led me to that place Yellow desert stream Whatever's driving the storm leaves no trace of the world he once knew. He finds his journey was equivalent to that of a "yellow desert stream", which means he was following a stream hoping for water, but to no avail. My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon I will return again Sure as the dust that floats high in June When movin' through Kashmir Pretty vague, I see it as him hoping he'll gain enlightenment and be able to return to his "Shangri-La beneath the summer moon". Also insinuates he's leaving, for to return, you must leave, right? :P Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails Across the sea of years With no provision but an open face Along the straits of fear He's setting sail again, with nowhere to go but to the future. |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think it might be about the, continuing the Anne Frank theme, persistence of the Franks not to give up their religion. The "two-headed boy" references could mean others think they're freaks, mixed with the metaphors that Matty Dubs mentioned. The jar of course, could represent the attic. "The world that you need is wrapped in gold silver sleeves Left beneath Christmas trees in the snow" Kind of paints a romantic environment that's accepting of Christians. |

Lennon's screaming, not Paul. Paul and George are the backing vocals in the last part, but that's it. |
The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The guy with the low voice is definitely singing "oompa loompa, stick it up your jumper", but the woman or whatever the high voice is doesn't sound like that at all. Maybe they're sing multiple lyrics at once just to confuse everyone? |

Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Nah, he's got a point there. There are certain brain responses to words, smells, colors, and audio that make them remember them more. For instance, red and white are in Coca Cola's logo, the Nazi flag, and countless other places. |
Bob Dylan – Maggie's Farm Lyrics | 13 years ago |
You're all over-analyzing it. It's about the folk music industry, they want to you be just like them, but Dylan wanted to be like himself. He added electric guitar to this album, something the folk music community absolutely shunned. But he doesn't care, he ain't gonna work for Maggie's Farm no more. Of course, this song can be applied to almost any rebellion. It's vague enough. I don't think Maggie's a real person, Dylan usually pulled names out of nowhere. |
El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriguez-Lopez – Shake Is For 8th Graders Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this song is about the children messing up their youth because they don't know what they're capable of. The title refers to shake(a type of marijuana) being for eighth graders. "Voice 1: "What happened to your shine?" Voice 2: "I used to have a shine, huh." Voice 1: "And what happened to it?" Voice 2: "Well, what kind of shine was it?"" The boy doesn't know he has a shine, and he's lost whatever shine he didn't know he had. "Beneath you drips my type I'll keep tabs on her wardrobe especially if the negligent neglige slips ever so gently off the slip of her ass" Refers to lack of modesty in women's clothing. "A letter picked, jaundiced and paved your cheap spurs are only swelling with age" A letter was taken, covered in bile(jaundice is an increased amount of bile in the skin and eyes), and made concrete, or permanent. I have no idea what spurs refers to, could mean violence or swearing? "I won't get Tourette's if you don't get Tourette's I won't get Tourette's if you don't get to rest" This one's an enigma for me. I have no idea what it has to do with anything in the song. Maybe it means people won't swear if other people don't swear? Some sort of monkey-see-monkey-do argument? "Voice 1: "So what happened to your shine?" Voice 2: "I guess it disappeared... uh, thanks to you." Voice 1: "Why me?" Voice 2: "I dont know, 'cause you're the one that only mentions it."" This other boy KNEW about the potential he had, but he didn't do anything about it. It did disappear because of him. Could refer to a friend's responsibility to take care of their other friend. "I haven't heard a groan like that since jailbait bars came blessed with rugs I'll wrap this lightpost round your devoted staff came their sighs of twisting cables" I have no idea. xD "To have deflected their charms I am unable to be listed in your regards if you hurry home I might prevent those scars" The child didn't care about the parents, who tried as hard as they could to stop his actions. "A stretch of nothingness on stationary mangled when the sleepy wheels rolled 6am so early in the morning " I have no idea. The beginning of Noir(the next song) has snoring noises, so I think this lyric has to do with the next song. |
The Mars Volta – Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Bring me this plague She took a drink Those nicotine stains On his every word My scavenger quilt Will only hide the truth His mother was in some sort of drug cartel, and Cygnus is trying to get into it to "get the plague"? Perhaps this means the AIDs Cygnus gets later on. Bring me Bring me this plague I count the days to find What was left behind Only these names I clutch Will lead me to my home He's looking for his old home where his mother used to live. Somehow this river marks A wrinkle hand in mine And everyday that parts The water into two The river wrinkled a hand, so the hand parts the river into two? A sort of two-way punishment that never ends? Mothers and feathers start To drown the living proof His obsession is hiding this two-way punishment, and makes him blind with anger. I cant remember these lakes of blood Wrapped in a blanket There sweats a cut His parents never told him about Cassandra to help him stay away from her? |
The Mars Volta – Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Figured the album out, with aid from the discuss section of the Wikipedia article(though it wasn't as specific as I had hoped for, only a brief summary of what was going on in each song). Cygnus' mom, Frances, was killed by a group of female thieves led by a woman named Cassandra Gemini. In this song, Cygnus begins his quest to get vengeance on his mother's murderers. The ocean floor is hidden From your viewing lens A depth perception Languished in the night He feels lonely, but little does he know the consequences of his journey to murder his mother's killers. All my life,Ive been Sewing the wounds But the seeds sprout A lachrymal cloud He's tried to recover from his mother's death, but it keeps ending terribly and he just feels more lonely. Boy prepare yourself Cause you're going to suffer Boy prepare yourself Get out venom Boy prepare yourself Get out of here Boy prepare yourself Lips trembling Boy prepare yourself Get out venom Boy prepare yourself Get out of here Boy prepare yourself The bodies jump You're going to suffer This part is where he leaves his family in search of the murderers. My nails peel back When the taxidermist ruined Goose stepped the freckling impatience His family accepted his mother's death, without vendetta in their hearts. The "taxidermist" is Cassandra, and his family is "goose-stepping", or "stepping in line". Taxidermists stuff gooses. This is a clever metaphor. D: All the brittle tombs Death is fragile. Five hundred little qs Q's = questions? Im splitting hairs to Match the faces He's going out of his way to find the murderers. All night long I'll hunt for you Let me show you what I mean: Blood Dreaming From rage I was born Quite obvious what this means. Blood dreaming means dreaming about their murder. Now this train don't lie An abortion that survived Frances gave birth shortly after she was murdered... weird, I know. Perhaps he's on a train? I don't know about that line. A lineage of Bastard mastication His family has been tortured by this clan for much of their ancestry? All the severed proof Talons scratch my suite These are the feathers That replace them His suite of feathers has been ripped out for a long time, but now he's going to "make some new feathers". Who do you trust Will they feed us the womb Chrome the fetal mirage Will they feed us the womb I have abso-fucking-lutely no idea what this line means. xD I found the remnants Of a crescent fang It cleaned my wing Down to the bone Crescent fang refers to a werewolf. It apparently destroyed his new feathers. Perhaps it's referring to the drugs Cygnus took? Umbilical syllables Left to decode There was no cradle I can taste it Come on now Whatever this "crescent fang" was, it made Cygnus lose faith in his journey. So here he was, the middle of nowhere in the slums with no purpose. |
MGMT – Electric Feel Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think the song's about racism; he goes out with a Western girl, though he's Eastern. The Western girl teaches him her customs and he teaches her his customs. This makes "electricity", which connects the world together. Electricity is probably, in this case, love or something. |
Alice in Chains – God Smack Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song's about religion being the "opiate of the masses". |
The Mars Volta – Inertiatic ESP Lyrics | 13 years ago |
No one ever said this band was punk. William Shakespeare used complicated phrases. Do you think he's a terrible writer? What about Homer or Aristotle? You don't understand why they use such oblique phrases until you understand the lyrics themselves. The Mars Volta refers back to lyrics over and over again, continuing a metaphor throughout an entire album. If you don't phrase your words correctly, you can't do that. The strange phrasing also makes it more musically correct. "Smells like shit" wouldn't fit the number of syllables needed, and would generate a smaller number of syllables needed for the entire verse, which would make it sound simplistic, something this song is not about. |
The Mars Volta – Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus Lyrics | 13 years ago |
As NuclearBlast said, "The story is inspired by a diary that Jeremy found in the backseat of a car while working as a repo man," singer/lyricist Bixler-Zavala. "He discovered he had a lot in common with its author. He kept it and let us in on it. The diary told of the author being adopted and looking for his real parents. The names of each song are named after people in the diary. Each person he meets sort of points him in the direction of his biological parents." The ocean floor is hidden From your viewing lens A depth perception Languished in the night An ocean (of tears?) is hidden from someone because of a darkness that befalls them. Someone not realizing someone else's pain because of the pain they're feeling? Perhaps the diary writer's anger at his foster parents and/or birth parents? I haven't heard enough about the diary to be certain about this. All my life,Ive been Sewing the wounds But the seeds sprout A lachrymal cloud Lachrymal means "of relevance to tears". The more he tries to fix his problems, the more problems appear. Boy prepare yourself Cause youre going to suffer Boy prepare yourself Get out venom Boy prepare yourself Get out of here Boy prepare yourself Lips trembling Boy prepare yourself Get out venom Boy prepare yourself Get out of here Boy prepare yourself The bodies jump Youre going to suffer Revenge of some sort? Or maybe a prediction of the diary writer's journey? My nails peel back When the taxidermist ruined Goose stepped the freckling impatience All the brittle tombs Five hundred little q's I'm splitting hairs to Match the faces A taxidermist is afraid to stuff a goose, and the goose is scared and wants it to get it over with. Possibly again referring to the "someone not realizing someone else's pain because of the pain they're feeling" aspect. Splitting hair is a daunting and frustrating task, much as the man from the diary's attempts to "match the faces", or find his parents. All night long I'll hunt for you Let me show you what I mean: Blood Dreaming From rage I was born Maybe his parents were angry at him? Maybe why they put him into a foster home? Now this train don't lie An abortion that survived He's on a train, which is proof that he'll continue to try to find his parents, who he felt "aborted" him? A lineage of Bastard mastacation Means "an ancestry of bastard chewing or kneading to a pulp". Perhaps he felt his parents hated him and just chewed him up and threw him out. All the severed proof Talons scratch my suite These are the feathers That replace them A reference to the taxidermy line. The goose escaped, as shown by the scratches on his suite. Maybe they got a new child or a dog or something to replace what they felt was all that was needed of him? Who do you trust Will they feed us the womb Chrome the fetal mirage Will they feed us the womb Will his parents actually fill the void in his heart? "Chrome the fetal mirage" could refer to the parents "dressing up" the new child or whatever I mentioned before to cover up the thing missing from their house. I found the remnants Of a crescent fang It cleaned my wing Down to the bone Umbilical syllables Left to decode There was no cradle I can taste it Come on now Even though he couldn't understand it, his parents didn't care for him, he could "taste it", perhaps with his "crescent fang"? Perhaps this taste for vengeance with his parents was the one thing driving him to find them. "Crescent fang" refers to a werewolf, perhaps he only felt this vengeance once his "depth perception" was "languished in the night"? Bring me this plague She took a drink Those nicotine stains On his every word Their addictions prevented him from knowing more about his parents? They couldn't be trusted? My scavenger quilt Will only hide the truth What he pieces together in his "scavenger quilt" from this "expedition" of sorts, will only prevent him from knowing more? I count the days to find What was left behind Only these names I clutch Will lead me to my home He has only the names of his parents to help his journey. Somehow this river marks A wrinkle hand in mine And everyday that parts The water into two The river must lead into the ocean mentioned in the first few lines. As he follows the river to the ocean, his hands get wrinklier and wrinklier, and he keeps coming to dead ends and forks in the road. Mothers and feathers start To drown the living proof He is the living proof. His parents are trying to avoid him from finding them, perhaps? I can't remember these lakes of blood Wrapped in a blanket There sweats a cut He can't remember his childhood, and it depresses him that all he knows about it was that it was bad. I think this story is just the introduction to the man's journey to find his parents, hence it being the first track of the album. |
Wolfmother – Apple Tree Lyrics | 13 years ago |
There are a lot of references to Adam and Eve in this album, so I can't see why this song can't be about it. |
The Presidents of the United States of America – Lump Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I thought this song was about loving a girl with cancer. "Is this Lump out of my head, I think so" is simply a play on words. He's comparing his great interest in her cancer with actually having cancer. "Totally motionless except for her heart" She's probably going to die, as confirmed by "She might be dead" However, the lyrics to the verse don't confirm my view of the song very well. It probably is about a partying girl gone slow. I just thought it was interesting how it could be interpreted as a very good metaphor for interest in cancer. |
System of a Down – Chop Suey! Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The song was originally named to be Suicide, but the record company thought it was too gruesome. They switched to Chop Suey, because the name was fake, just as Chop Suey is not really Chinese food. |
Sonic Youth – Teenage Riot Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Now, now. Let's stop arguing... ... DINOSAUR JR. INVENTED EMO. |
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Are You Experienced? Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I actually thought this had a religious meaning. Jimi was a pretty religious man, despite his drug abuse. |
Nirvana – Serve the Servants Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Salem's Lot is where the witches were accused, trialed and hung. I know because I live right near Salem and have to deal with the extremely high traffic during Halloween because people think it's "haunted". |
Soundgarden – Burden in My Hand Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I always thought this song was about either being oblivious to everything, like most people tend to be, or to go through the hardships, or the desert, if you will, and seek the truth. The drowning in alcohol part is probably about how people have failed in finding the truth, and became social outcasts due to their abnormality. Dunno, just my take on it. |
Soundgarden – Spoonman Lyrics | 14 years ago |
LMAO at how everyone went to SongMeanings.com to discuss how they don't give a shit about song meanings. I agree with the white man vs. Native Americans plot. The drums sound primitive, and almost Native American-like, and then the whole spoon-solo makes it pretty obvious. |
Metallica – Leper Messiah Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"it's also amusing that jesus, and the bible preaches about love, co-operation, peace and happiness in the world...but the catholic church can be held responsible for a huge number of deaths since its formation. all roman conquests, the crusades, the witchcraft debacle, the spanish inquistion...and the list goes on." You haven't realized that EVERYONE does this? I freaking hate people who blame this on religion. You're just proving the fact that EVERYONE NEEDS A SCAPEGOAT. All throughout history, with or without relevance to religion, everyone's blamed everyone on a minority. It's not religion. It's mankind. Sorry to rant. Anyways, now I'm pretty sure this song's about the televangelist scandal. The lyrics make perfect sense. |
Metallica – Leper Messiah Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I really thought this entire album was about drugs. The Master of Puppets being drugs. I feel that this song's comparing the drug industry with religion. I don't know, just my view of it. Maybe it's because I'm Catholic and don't like to be viewed as a greedy false-worshipping fool. :D |
Nirvana – Serve the Servants Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song's about how the media has completely invaded his life. They started making fun of his wife and parents acting like they were "supporting him" when in reality they were just trying to make a buck. |
Led Zeppelin – Bonzo's Montreux Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"The song is called Bonzo's Montreux because, as has been hinted at but not fully stated, it is named after John "Bonzo" Bonham who recorded it in 1978 at a studio in Montreux, Switzerland (with later electronic parts added by Jimmy Page). It was never released during the band's career - but placed in " Coda" (which is a technical term in music meaning "the end of a musical score" - an apt title for a collection of recordings released two years after the band disbanded) in 1982." Well, isn't that kind of obvious? And I thought Bonzo did the synthesizers as well in this song? |
Led Zeppelin – Bonzo's Montreux Lyrics | 14 years ago |
IMHO, Skynyrd made two of one of the most greatest songs ever, Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama, and the rest suck... But anyways, shouldn't we be making jokes about how this song's lyrics hold the secrets of life, like on all the other instrumentals? |
Weezer – My Name Is Jonas Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the train reference means your train of thought. He bought something that made his think better... An education? Maybe he went to college, and he wrote to his brother about how once his business wasn't doing well after college. |
Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I thought this song was about breaking up with someone. I run it up the flagpole, means being horny. How many of us haven't humped something when they were horny? The parts about being in a mental hospital are probably about court, and her taking everything from him. I thought he said fingertips have MAMMARIES, and I was really freaked out. Or maybe this song's about this song itself, about how he knew he'd get famous, but he wants to not become famous, and become an independent artist... I don't know. |
Green Day – Homecoming Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I like billielover's explanation of part 2. It fits exactly with my Jesus of Suburbia explanation(take a look at it on pg. 12, and this will not make any sense without seeing it first). Jesus of Suburbia has to pay for the sins of Jimmy. This is to stop the circle of people not caring about each other, and so Jesus of Suburbia must kill himself. Oh, and your explanation of Rock and Roll Girlfriend is exactly what I thought, because it responds to the "Where'd you go"s and the "Geez". In the crowd of pain St. Jimmy comes without any shame He says, “We're fucked up" But we're not the same And Mom and Dad are the ones you can blame is obviously continuing the hypocritical circle of pain, because the reason we're all doing terrible is because of our ancestors not breaking the circle. I think Saint Jimmy is hinting for Jesus of Suburbia to kill himself. No one else is going to save Saint Jimmy, so why not Jesus of Suburbia? The St. Jimmy is the spark in the night Bearing gifts and trust A fixture in the city of lust St. Jimmy is the thing that's going to get Jesus of Suburbia to save the world. The nobody likes you part is about how the world is already not liking him for hating the media. He's obviously returned home, because he's watching television. Part 4 is about how Tunny is mocking him, because he stayed faithful to the television and supermarket industries, and look how great his life is. Then, Jesus of Suburbia realizes how terrible life is in this media industry, and he can either kill himself and save everyone, or he can live in a world run by the media. He kills himself. Some might think this album is a sequel to Pink Floyd's The Wall, in a more modern version, only Jesus of Suburbia stopped the circle that ran the system. And so, there you have it. The explanation to American Idiot. Emo crap my butt. |
Green Day – Jesus of Suburbia Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The first part is basically another introduction, just like the first three songs. A person is thinking he's special, a sort of Jesus, and that nobody cares. He begins to realize things, and how the world is being destroyed, and again, nobody cares. The second part is about how big businesses are destroying everything. At the center of the Earth In the parking lot Of the 7-11 were I was taught The motto was just a lie So, The Center of the Earth = 7/11 The center of the earth Is the end of the world And I could really care less The Center of the Earth = The End of the World The motto: the superstores telling us everything is great. The heart comment: We don't all live in the same place. Some of us live on the streets. The supermarkets are rich. We don't see the same. The third part is about television. The first part of this is about how the world is a terrible place. There are wars, death, etc. The "land of make believe" is the media. The don't believe in us. The just show all the good things in the world, thus helping the supermarkets. The forth part is hypocritical, so it sort of forms a circle, and doesn't make anything happen. He's not listening to his beloved, his beloved isn't listening to him. In order to change, you need to listen is what it's saying. Fifth should be seperated into two parts. To live and not to breathe Is to die in tragedy To run, to run away To find what you believe And I leave behind This hurricane of fucking lies I lost my faith to this This town that don't exist He's going to run away from the media, ignore what it's saying, and he's going to find the truth. So I run I run away To the light of masochists And I leave behind This hurricane of fucking lies And I walked this line A million and one fucking times But not this time is about how he keeps trying and nobody's listening. So, he's going to try something different. I don't feel any shame I wont apologize When there ain't nowhere you can go Running away from pain When you've been victimized Tales from another broken home He realizes he can't run from the media from staying home. And here's the part you left out: You're leaving You're leaving You're leaving home It's about how he'll run away and find somewhere where people will listen, somewhere away from the media. |
Good Charlotte – The Chronicles of Life and Death Lyrics | 14 years ago |
We come in covered in blood, cold, and the doctor cuts our cord. We leave covered in blood, cold, as the doctor cuts our cord. It's saying our lives amount to nothing. Depressing... *cuts self* |
Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I thought this song and video was about how the world only sees beauty. He wants a Black Hole Sun to come so no one can see each other's faces. Rock Band made me remember this song. I knew it before, I just forgot what it was called. I got tons of tunes in my head that I don't know what are. |
