Clutch – Cypress Grove Lyrics 14 years ago
I saw a book at a library titled Cypress Grove, read the description, and thought maybe that's what this song was about. But, Amazon says the book was published in April 2004, and Blast Tyrant was released in March 2004. Which is pretty weird, unless a band member knows the author.

And I'm still confused as to what a Holy Diver is supposed to be, except that he rides a tiger, and is a sole survivor :)

Anyways, this song ROCKS.

Ten Years After – I'd Love to Change the World Lyrics 14 years ago
"A basic understanding of microeconomics will point out that punishing people for success means that nobody will strive to better themselves; and that if you don't have rich/successful people (who've earned it - I'm not talking about the nepotistic thieves that are far-too prevalent nowadays) then you're not going to have anybody who can employ the poor, and eventually you'll run out of money to actually feed them."

1) You're assuming that people only do great things for money. I think most people want to "better themselves" irregardless of money, and that there are even quite a few people that want to make the world a "better place" irregardless of money. If their weren't there would be no teachers, professors, researchers, aid workers, etc... All of which are underpaid positions.

2) Money doesn't directly feed the poor. Food does.

3) If there is nobody to employ the poor, then there must be huge demands that need to be met, giving the poor great opportunities to employ themselves. Employee owned and operated businesses, and co-ops are alternatives as well.

I don't think conventional economics takes into account enough things for it's theories to be considered equivalent to the laws of Newtonian Physics or something like that. I'm just a Computer Science/Math major though, and don't know what to do. So I guess I'll leave it up to you? lol

I believe this song is about the First Law of Thermodynamics and karma.

Ted Nugent – Great White Buffalo Lyrics 15 years ago
Great song. Ted kinda sounds like he's a conservationist. I've never heard him talk about conservation outside of this song though. Would be great if he did. Maybe he could get the republican base off some of their stupid policies like "drill baby drill" and all that.
I swear, some people wouldn't mind burning all U.S.'s forests down and farming the land, just to make some more profit. Then they'd wonder why there is such a pest problem, after they created the perfect environment for them, and destroyed their predators habitat.
On a side note, that's why the deer population is so high. We removed all the wolves.

LOL. This is probably too political for this site, but I'm drunk and I'm going to post it anyway.

David Allen Coe – If That Ain't Country Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh, on a side note. I catch my cousin using the N-word sometimes, and I have to remind him, "Dude, your sister's black!" lol.

David Allen Coe – If That Ain't Country Lyrics 15 years ago
Good song. Reminds me of my grandfather. He works on junk cars, bought his house on a GI bill; and my aunt is a prostitute also. lol.
I'm not exactly sure if he's racist, though. He says he isn't. Using the N-word isn't a clear indicator of racism; especially back when he wrote this song. In the small all-white town I grew up, I've heard it quite often (not saying I agree with it). And all these people aren't racist. I guess they think if there aren't any black people around then they won't be offended by it, lol. Rap and hip-hop "artists" use the word all the time, and I don't think they're racist. Though it is possible I guess, lol.

The Offspring – The Kids Aren't Alright Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, this song's name plays on the title of the song, "The Kids Are Alright" from the Who in the 60's. Which is about a father neglecting his kids and his wife (maybe a divorce). So, I think they Offspring had this in mind when they wrote this song. Parents aren't "parenting" and they're letting their kids get screwed up. I can certainly relate with that. My parents sucked and kicked me out on the street the day after my 18th birthday. Same with my brother, and many of my past friends. It's a wonder that I didn't get addicted to hard drugs like them. This is one messed up society.

Bruce Springsteen does a nice shorter and slower version of this song. He includes the verse about the relief office.

The dude above me is right.
It's also putting down Bono from U2 pretty bad, lol. He's the Irish fly. And I think is band is the Guinness drinking choir.

Clutch – (In The Wake Of) The Swollen Goat Lyrics 16 years ago
The "Swollen Goat" may have something to do with the Chinese Zodiac. Desert Storm and the Iraq War were both fought during the year of the ram (or goat).

The anarchist flag is black. It's actually an anti-flag. Stands for opposition of all oppressive forces. He is most likely referring to anarchists.
