Sadly, feral children tend to sicken and die very quickly when removed from the environment the grew up in, and tend to die very young even if left there. |

Something about this song rubs me the wrong way. It feels to me like a last minute conversion to monotheism, and just makes me want to cry for the Gods being abandoned. |

Funny, maybe it's just my mindset, but this scream Eden metaphors to me.
Once we had been
Rich from within
Did not try to reach
What we couldn't achieve
Very much invokes the image of innocent paradise |

Nightwish – Wish I Had an Angel Lyrics
|
First off, when I first heard this with Tarja I thought it was decent butt not amasing. Hearing Anette perform it, it sounds absolutely perfect. It works as a duet between Anette and Marco.
Second: to those of you who say the lyrics have no meaning, you are giving a great insult to Tuomas' writing, which is generally very insightful and spiritual. I cannot pretend to know what he intended with this song, but it is obvious the theme of beauty and innocence is a part, and how possesing a great beauty is at the cost of the innocence therein. By becoming a possession, something of the purity is lost. |

Oddly enough, the fish in the story is named "Princess"
also, I believe the line is "The Golden Past" not pack, as Pious is reminiscing about the past and the golden age of silent movies. |

"slaveship decks", our voodoun mistress and her laos
"I called you home and cried for you" - Essie and the piskies of Cornawall, maybe?

Nightwish – The Islander Lyrics

I keep listening over and over to this song. Like the video, I see an old sailor whonow keeps a lighthouse. The 'princess' seems to be a wife he might have lost (now his loves a memory) and the children probably grew up while he was at sea, so he never knew them much, just the image of them playing. And of course, he feels he's had a long enough life and ties himself to the anchor.
Such a beautiful song, I never heard Marco sound so... Wonderful. And when Anette joins in, their voices mix perfectly, it makes me want to cry, such a sad beauty. Good job guys, more songs like this in style if not lyrical theme would be great, the Celtic overtones work for you. |

Inkubus Sukkubus – Reptile Lyrics

this is the classic abusive relationship, with a mythological or spiritual twist, it seems. The addition of the teacher role enforces the dependence and the desire to please. Beautiful, but terribly sad. Especially when the line "What a trophy to inscribe beside the one who've gone before" is considered, the implication previous apprentices/lovers/partners/students have died because of the relationship. |

the whole song feels like a spell or ritual, and I've used it as such several times. The beat is intoxcating, the lyrics so celebratory, it brings a energetic peace. Wonderful, straightforward empowerment and celebration. |

Within Temptation – Crucify (Tori Amos cover) Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
I dunno, something about the cover softens the song. In a way I think it takes the power out. Tori's version seems more, I dunno, strong, a statement of fact. This seems more a lament. It's good, but the feeling it evokes just doesn't seem right to the lyrics. It's definitely the vocals that do it, making it just too pretty, ya know? |

Within Temptation – Angels Lyrics

I think this is a far more beautiful song than any mere breakup theme. Truely evil? Maybe not, but it has qualities of a love betrayed. Not any relationship, soulmates, maybe even angels themselves, torn apart by the lies of one, Fallen, and the lingering love mixed with the anger and sorrow. Beautiful. |

Inkubus Sukkubus – I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Head Lyrics
| 15 years ago
|
wrong. the correct lyrics are:
Can't get you out of my head
Got a devil here inside of me
Can't get you out of my head
The dead in Hell are calling me
Can't get you out of my head
As a razor tears into my flesh
Can't get you out of my head
When drowning in this misery
Everynight, everyday
Just to be there in your arms
Na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na na
Can't get you out of my head
When the soul is ripped right out of me
Can't get you out of my head
When the cloak of death is over me
Everynight, everyday
Just to be there in your arms
Can't get you out of my head
Can't get you out of my head
Can't get you out of my head
Can't get you out of my head
Na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na na
Na na na, na na na na na |

Inkubus Sukkubus – Underworld Lyrics
|
B12, get a life. This song references Egyptian mythology, and uses the archaic terms to evoke the feel of the Egyptian Book Of the Dead translations, which use them to make it clear these are spells, rituals, sacred texts.
"The heat of Ra" Ra, Amon, Amon-ra/re is the sun god, each day he drives the sun across the sky and each night he carries it through the underworld safely.
"The womb of Nut" Nut, or Nuit, is the Earth mother. Easy reference there.
"Utchat" Is the eye of Horus symbol. |
