Kalmah – Skin O' My Teeth Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There is a difference, though: That's what 9-1-1 is for ... is actually sung by Kalmah as: That's what 1-1-2 is for ... because the emergency services phone number in Finland (and, indeed nearly all of Europe) is 112. Neat, huh? |

Blondie – Rush Rush Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Listen to the song" ? How exactly, oh great genius, can you determine the SPELLING of a word by LISTENING to the SONG? It's "llello". It's Spanish, not English. That's how it's fucking spelled. You do realize that other languages spell the same sounds in different ways, right? Probably not, because you're a stupid wigger. |
Fujiya & Miyagi – Ankle Injuries Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think the lyrics is this way: Fujiya, Miyagi x26 As a pretty As of the bed Lowercase letter S Spray painted red It's spray painted red Yeah, your little arms Swing on monkey bars In such other plots Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Lights Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Lights, a career Littered to roof, ankle injuries In the mid to late 1980s As a pretty As of the bed Lowercase letter S Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Lights Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Watching Unleashing begins Next to Zap, road crossings My ancient old legs, stick to leather and Seat coverings Watching Unleashing begins Through transparent things Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Lights Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Lights Fujiya, Miyagi x34 Like pixelated scraps of chess mags in your head Lights |
Thrice – Child of Dust Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I totally disagree md, I think that Air and Earth are quite possibly the best CDs in about... 40 years? no exaggeration. and I believe you're referring to "Illusion of Safety" I think this works on two levels, on one, it's Earth welcoming the dead, whereas on another level, its both a lament and a warning. Earth is tired of being used constantly as a battleground, and given the world current technological advancement, were it to decide to tear itself apart at the seams, the thousands of years of ideas could be found by no prying spade. |

Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It sounds to me like this song was written for a controlling, OCD girlfriend who compulsively lies about things she deems meaningless. This is why small things like putting on chapstick and double-checking your passport are part of the song. I think when he says "Highest Llama" he means "Dalais Lama" and he's just antagonizing his girlfriend with that line, sarcastically trying to appear stupid but still not giving a fuck |
Marilyn Manson – Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
she reminds me of the one i once loved when i was hurt and she tried to save me she was beautiful we made love to each other. she is tainted because i still loves the last one she knows it too, but she loves me and she said the wound will heal, but the scar will forever be there i dun mind if she keeps me numb as long as i can be with her and she be with me. dun hurt me, and i will not hurt you little girl, close your eyes your blue eyes reminds me of the past, a hallucination. making me feel depressed. she reminds me of the one that brought me happiness i could never let her go she won leave me too i dun mind if she keeps me numb as long as i can be with her and she be with me. dun hurt me, and i will not hurt you little girl, close your eyes your blue eyes reminds me of the past, a hallucination. making me feel depressed. just my 2 cents. |

Indio – Hard Sun Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm curious how many people thought this song was about Mother Nature before the movie 'Into the Wild' came out? :) Unfortunately it's not obvious what 'her' is referring to, and could be interpreted as multiple things, women or mother nature, or maybe computers and the Internet!? LOL |
Kelley Polar – Rosenband Lyrics | 16 years ago |
n Greek mythology, Elysium (Greek: Ἠλύσια πεδία) was a section of the Underworld (the spelling Elysium is a Latinization of the Greek word Elysion). The Elysian fields, or sometimes Elysian plains, were the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous . It is associated with the Christian Heaven.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elysium) When you know that the song, in my opinion, becomes pretty straightforward. |
Placebo – Pure Morning Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Surely the fact she "passed the test" means she was actually pregnant which is why a "friend that bleeds is better" and why they'll never sever. Still unsure on the "boxing clever" bit - I mean I'm guessing this refers to a dazed state? |

its a series of sexual innuendo about eating out a girl. |
The Band – Up On Cripple Creek Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Gotta say the Last Waltz version is easily my favorite...really up-tempo and amazing vocals. P.S. The Band's southern influences mostly emanate from Levon Helm (the drummer whose voice is incredible -- sings on this song actually). He's the only member of the Band actually from the south. The rest are from Canada, though they were all incredibly interested in exploring the rural south sounds/vibes in their music. |
The Band – Ophelia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I haven't even been born yet and love good music! (P.S. Who thinks the music they listen to is bad music?) Anyway, the Last Waltz is one of the best live concerts put to film (even says so on the box haha). I had a cursory relationship with The Band before seeing it, but now am a huge fan and have been delving into much more of their material. |
The Band – I Shall Be Released Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is pretty obvious looking over the lyrics but it actually didn't hit me till today that this is written from the perspective of someone in prison. I had known the song for a while but associated it most with Richard Manuel (member of the Band, singer of the original version). It was played at his funeral and was one of the Band's most powerful songs because of his vocals on it. Hard to believe there aren't any other comments on this. It's definitely got a few interpretations |
Portishead – Pedestal Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"A song like Pedestal for instance, something like that could only be created in that time. It's about death; I was much more into that than now. I thought I had a clear picture of death but now I know it's a mystery and it will always be a mystery, although it is something we all have in common: everybody knows that life ends with death. So then I try to imagine how we would live if we didn't know we were going to die. Would we live our lives differently? Less careful maybe? Less scared? These are beautiful things to think about and build a song around. But I think that after a year of Portishead I've become a little more sober." - Beth Gibbons of Portishead in an interview found here: http://wnet.suomi.net/kotisivu/heikki.hietala/Interviews/Beth%20Oor.htm |
Tokyo Police Club – In a Cave Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I threw darts at a spinning globe Swapping out passport photos I walk west to the setting sun Every single step I grow[,] another second young All my hair grows in Wrinkles leave my skin Hold still, don't fade I'll be back again when the tide is in some day I don't know who else to ask Sitting in the dark Holding an empty glass Stained my teeth with more red wine I'm a romantic, but never pearly white [chorus] Elephant shell You're my cave and I've been hiding out Will you tell me a little bit about A bit about yourself [x2] ---------------------- Someone else can post this to the correct forum for them to update. I'm too lazy right now, sorry. ---------------------- Great song. If you're Canadian, or just enjoy reading, check out Robertson Davies |
Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The song isn't literally about "beautiful people," it's talking about the hypocrisy of people who are so self-righteous with their social status and their "holier-than-thou" religions that they're trying to buy their way into heaven. There was also an extremely obscure song called "Stairway to Heaven," which said: "all that glitters is not gold," referring to the fact that these people who try to live big on Earth won't make it into Heaven. Manson says in the song that these people are so deep in the woods that they can't even see the trees. . ., which means that they have their heads so far up their own asses that they can't even tell right from wrong anymore. If this still doesn't make any sense to you, think of a group of people such as the Westboro Baptist Church; they use their self-righteousness as an excuse to spread hatred and grief, but when you dig deeper, you find out that the woman that runs the church has a bastard-son (outside of marriage), and by their own standards she'll be rotting in hell. So, it's about people and their full-of-shit "high and mighty" attitudes, and how they all have their own dirt that they try to sweep under the rug. and they're no better than anyone else. . .in the story, even Jesus says "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." |
Neutral Milk Hotel – Love You More Than Life Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i've always seen this as the man almost singing a love song to heroin. Too me it sums up the life of a junky, essentially everything else in your life becomes soo worthless and the only meaning and importance in your life anymore is the heroin itself. |
Týr Faroese – Brother's Bane Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about Loki tricking Hodr into killing Baldr. "Honour your brother's name, unarmed of blind Let me aid you in your aim, don't stay behind let's Maim immortality and death to a deity" This is said by Loki. Hodr was blind, and Loki offered to help him aim a bow at Baldr, which would kill him. "There's no reason to defend, nothing can harm him Let's say it's just pretend, extend your arm and Bend now this fatal bow and with this mistletoe" Baldr was invincible to everything but mistletoe, so there was no reason for him to defend against any attacks. But Loki knew that he could be killed by mistletoe, so he tricked Baldrs blind brother, Hodr, to shoot a mistletoe arrow at him. "Grieving, my teeth I grind, I see it now You mischievous mastermind, for this I vow You'll pay in a paragon of sorrow, you made my son" This is said by Odin to Loki. He is upset that Loki made Hodr his "brothers bane" Bane means destruction. So Hodr was his brothers bane. |
Depeche Mode – New Dress Lyrics | 16 years ago |
As per my understanding, this song is about how the media was using the fact that Princess Di was updating her wardrobe and running that as headlines rather than actual news. |
The Mountain Goats – Autoclave Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It isn't the bright mountain choir that does additional vocals on this track. The bright mountain choir adds vocals to new zion, how to embrace a swamp creature and marduk t-shirt men's room incident |
Skillet – Say Goodbye Lyrics | 16 years ago |

David Bowie – Changes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The correct lyrics are "turn and face the strange". Source: http://www.davidbowie.com/news/newsContent.php?id=20070419 "...we were singing 'Changes' for the purposes of a sound-check. When we reached the chorus David stopped the band, walked over to Gui and me, and asked us to sing our part. We duly obliged. David doubled up with laughter. For two-and-a-half months we had been singing 'turn and face the strain' instead of 'turn and face the strange'. From then on, every time we performed that song David would stick his arse out towards us and make like he was trying to squeeze one out, which would make us both laugh and fluff the line even worse." |
Duran Duran – Falling Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I wish people would stop believing what the press make up. For starters, Simon Le Bon wrote the lyrics, not Justin Timberlake. Secondly, he wrote them about himself (in his own words, Falling Down is the most autobiographical song on Red Carpet Massacre) and not about Britney Spears (although they can be applied to her current situation). Lastly, again in Simon's own words, the song is about "pride coming before a fall" and how everything might seem utterly desolate at the time, you will be ok in the end. And before anyone else asks, Justin Timberlake had absolutely nothing to do with the video for this song either, so any resemblance to Britney is on the director's say-so, not Justin's or the band themselves. (although personally, I see more Lohan in the model used) |
David Bowie – Oh! You Pretty Things Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To set the record "straight" - Bowie is not gay and never has been. He claimed to be "bisexual" for a time in the 60/70s when it was "hip" to be "sexually liberated", but it was mostly an act. Even in his interviews he admits this. Also most people get caught up in the theatrical aspect of his characters. A lot of dumb people equate makeup and women's clothing on men as homosexual, but there is quite a difference. You are only a homosexual if you exclusively have sex with only the same gender as yourself. This has NEVER been the case with Bowie. |
Wilco – The Late Greats Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I saw Wilco perform recently and they launched into this song after blasting main-stream radio, talking about how little radio play they got before "Sky Blue Sky" came out. So it's not tongue-in-cheek, it's straight forward and makes fun of people like loldoctor. |
Sage Francis – Makeshift Patriot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Don't waive your rights with your flags" First thing i thought of when i heard this was the Patriot Act - forced onto the US because of 9/11. Fits this quote like a glove... Genius, definitely a lesson many people should learn. |
Sage Francis – Crack Pipes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Huh, that seems a pretty reasonable assumption. Whoever it's about, it's on of the most powerful songs i've ever heard. And like someone else said, it's one of the first of sages that i heard and instantly got hooked. |
Sage Francis – Waterline Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You can see the song however you want it to be. It could be to do with New Orleans or Himself. I think it's important where he says " WE let the thoughts flood/ WE remind ourselves" Earlier on it's I... Theres got to be some meaning there, i just can't pick it out. Beautiful song, sage is a lyrical genius. Crack Pipes has to be one of my favourites... Take care Phil |
Cake – Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I really don't see how you can take this song to be anything but a critique of capitalism. It's all about how 'rock n roll' went from being anti-authoritarian and dangerous to becoming just another fashion for people to buy into and for the big corporations to make money off of. The idea is that people believe the propaganda and think that they're 'rebelling against society being outlaws' when in actuality they are just shelling out cash to the same thugs who own Disney, time-warner etc. Killing yourself with drugs is what they want, because it kills you and makes them money. (if you don't think that this song is about true rebellion then who is the 'they' in 'you're drinking what they're selling'?) As for the Pepsi can theory I think that the "as long as there soda cans are red white and blue ones" refers to the workers stupidly continuing to manufacture guitars brainwashed into subservience by nationalism. And the Einstein who thinks that computers are a purely capitalist invention might wonder how the USSR launched sputnik, MIRR etc. into space without computers. |
Stars – London Fields Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Ummm, is this really a Stars song? |
The Afters – Myspace Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
for the verses this is what i got i saw you once it was enough you asked me what i wanted i want you but i replied i'll have some fries so mezmorized my heart was over drivin' through I saw your name I'm not ashamed I searched within 500 miles to find any clue just as to who i've fallen for cause you got me and i got tiiimmee and i heard the chorus a little differently from you too. I saw your picture on myspace maybe some day we can turn it into our space, baby i don't care how long it takes i'm savin' space in my top 8 for you. but yeah i'd say other than that thats exactly whats on the song, good job! |
AC/DC – T.N.T. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song isn't specifically about a rapist. It's about a guy that's completely, 100% badass. Based on the lyrics, he probably is a rapist, but that's just a piece of the whole thing. Does noone get the back-door reference? The guy in this song is going to take whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. Period. |
Evanescence – Eternal Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This probably sounds off the wall to a lot of people, but.. for me and some other people with bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder that I've spoken to, it represents the cycle of our manic/raging periods and the aftermath. First part: manic, raging, impulsive, hyper, 'invincible', picking fights, burning bridges Second part: the come down, the realization of what we've done and where we are, who we are, what is wrong with us. the soul searching part. Rain represents despair to me. This is the part of the inevitable downturn that comes from destructive phases like before. Third part: The dissociative part. the depersonalization part. at this stage, we "numb out", feel empty, don't feel much of anything. we just exist. stare at the wall. we don't feel human anymore, our minds have shut down. they call it a coping mechanism for too much pain, and it probably is. this probably means something very different to everyone else but it's really close to my heart, although I'm pretty sure that the band didn't intend it that way. |

Lifter Puller – Back In Blackbeard Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Not sure what it means, but best LFTR PLLR song ever. |
OutKast – Gasoline Dreams (feat. Khujo) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is pretty great. It's complaining about how American Oil Imperialism runs the world. Corrupt religion using people for money and angry youth that have no power to change anything. Also racism, too harsh of penalties for minor drug charges and police corruption. Ricky Stratton is a character in the 80's TV show Silver Spoon about a kid who goes to live with his rich father but still has problems. I dunno what Outkast's beef with pork or birth control is pork used to be unhealthy because of parasites a long time ago and not using birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy is really really stupid. |

Aha! Amazon says it's, "Dark Leaves Form A Thread" |
Destroyer – Dark Leaves Form a Thread Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Only thing is, sometimes it sounds more like "Dark Leaves Form A Thread" than the actual track title. But I love the song, so good. |
311 – Evolution Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is great. I recently re-discovered it while playing some 311 songs at work. I build fiber-optic devices for a living, and I'm pretty sure this is the only song which mentions "fiber-optic connectors". The lyrics to this song, in general, are great! It talks about our use of technology, and questions our ability to use it. The song defines technology as a form of human evolution, because we continue our advancement as a species through technology. In response to Ignition; I believe that 311's use of the word exponential was appropriate in this context. In general, any logarithmic process can be expressed as an exponential process. More practically, the term 'exponential' is more common and better understood than the term 'logarithmic'. Therefore, the term exponential is more appropriate in the context of this song. In response to joshhaz: I would hazard a guess that whoever 'Igintion' is, he is more valuable to society than you are, and probably doesn't measure up to any of your profanities as well as you do. |
