A siren is a mythological creature that appears in many of the old Greek myths and stories. They appear to be incredibly beautiful women and they tend to live on islands. Usually they sing and the sound entices men to go to them. When the men are on the island the sirens turn into the hideous creatures that they really are and kill and eat the men. I think that this song is about a girl who he is completely infatuated with but he knows that if it ends badly he will be destroyed. |

The meaning is really obvious... He was in love with a girl who was 'lost and broken' and she ended up cheating one him ('Now it's a shame you've lost your touch and you can't control your lust.') He wanted to forgive her ('I was only a heartbeat away from forgiving you') but she cheated on him again or was unrepentant and so he decided to 'let the past be' because it was obviously over with this girl.
