I know they said this song is about being happy with yourself and how you are, but to me this song just drips of apathy. the music sounds very light-headed and chill. what i personally get out of the song is: i do my thing, the world does its own thing, and thats ok. it says negative things that he does and thinks and experiences ("my life had always been a game, i never learned how to play" "sometimes i feel as if my walls are closing in" "i blame the jealousy, the insecurity"), then balances it out or contrasts it with negative things that everyone else does ("you can find mister popular...and youll find something wrong" "all my friends are like chameleons" "ill be the judge of me or you can just peace") or positive things he thinks to deal with it ("as of today all that shit changes" "i dont care anymore"). and that equals apathy. where i see the most apathy is in the parts: "i dont care anymore", "ill take a pill or two if i wanna chill" "im gonna pour another vodka drink and i dont care what you think, everyones on something" which to me is saying hes getting drunk, but everyone else does crap too so why does it matter? thats my opinion, i dont know if anyone else would see it this way, but i think we can all agree that this song is amazing. |

i agree i think hes being controling. and i think "the word" is sex, because like what robotswearplaid said they dont (or HE doesnt) want to admit whats happening. but for the "severing the velvet" part i got a different meaning. when i first heard this song i thought that by "severing the velvet" it was the girl losing her virginity. because she seems unsure of what shes doing, and hes controling everything and telling/showing her what to do "dont be so impatient. dont lose self control. ill make the rules up as we go" |

this is the most inspirational song i have right now. im probably interpreting it wrong, but hey most songs are meant to mean different things to different people. this is what ive gotten out of it: "i watch the sun fall down to kill the day another part of me just went up in flames" as the day is ending, the oppertunity to do great things is over and he cant prove himself "because im bored and dumb and dying to change its the simple life driving me insane" being young makes you kinda stupid and adventurous, and he cant do anything exciting because hes stuck in one place and hes tired of the same thing day after day "then you explode in my head and now youre all over me" "you" is an idea or dream he gets, which is to go somewhere and do something different, exciting, challenging, ect. and its taking him over. "i come alive with you you know you set me free lets go" he starts dreaming and realizing that there are all these things he could do, and it sets him free to a world of endless possibilities "lets burn this town right to the ground and well go down like every legend before us" hes full of dreams and hope, unlike the "town" hes living in, and its compleatly knocked out by his determination to become another legend "well part the seas, make history while chasing dreams like every legend before us" he knows now that he can do anything, like part the seas and make history, because hes chasing a dream like other legends have. "you and me, we hit the streets cause the thrill of living gives me energy" with the dream he has hes really living, and it keeps him going "i wanna steal a car and rob a bank i wanna find a cure that will save the world" he wants to do SOMETHING, bad or good. he just wants to make a difference somewhere "cause our lives are going up in flames as we watch like its a movie" this is my most favorite line in the song. hes saying that our lives are being ruined because we just sit back and watch it lead us where ever instead of actually striving for something and wanting to lead our own lives "i come alive with you youre like the drug inside of my head" hes addicted to this dream because it makes him excited and feel alive "i open up like a window for you so come on in and destroy me like you do" hes letting this dream take him to alot of exciting places, even though it could backfire and turn out bad "you come on in after midnight for me and drag me out while the city falls asleep" while everyone else, the "city", is sleeping, the dream wakes him up "martyrs and kings heroes and thieves were chasing dreams like every legend before us" again hes chasing his dream like all other legends, good or bad its alot different than what madinalakefan says it means, but thats my two cents on this totaly awesome song. madina lake writes the best lyrics ever. |

this is one of my favorite songs on their new cd! i just love how he sings "im finding pleasure in watching you writhe. i lean in just to lick the sweat off your face" he should sing like that more often as for the meaning, no idea. but its a compleatly awesome song! |

i just love this song. ive been listening to it over and over cuz i can relate to it so much. but i think theres a couple mistakes in the lyrics there. instead of "decides that im being a man" i think its "decides that im the enemy" and instead of "typical in night company" i think its "typical late night company" and the one im not to sure about is "i cant get off the medicine" instead of "i gotta get off the medicine", but i may be wrong. and besides those little things, the lyrics are amazing! :) |

if you were a christian (like tdwp is) then you wouldnt believe that WE were the ones destroying the earth physicly. humans dont have the power to. only god does. but we are SPIRITUALY destroying it with sin. im not exactly sure what this song means, but im pretty sure its not about global warming. i dont think tdwp would get into that kind of crap. this song IS totaly awesome though, one of my favorites! :) |

this is what im getting out of it based on past experiences: Hurtful words From my enemies of the last five years --i think that means that his girlfriend has been cheating on him with a whole bunch of guys for the last five years and their all saying bad stuff about him What's it like to die alone? Make sure you're still alive Just in time to kill you --hes saying that after everything hes doing back at her he still wants her to survive just so he can knock her out hard one last time I can't take this anymore. I cannnot feel what you've done to me he cant deal with her anymore, he doesnt have enough emotional strength left. and that hes still getting the effects of what she did to him and its wareing on him and hes gotten to a point where he just doesnt feel it anymore or he doesnt care about her anymore lyricly this is a very powerful song. i can relate to it so well |
