Vampire Weekend – M79 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I honestly believe that this song means nothing, and most of the lyrics are just there because they rhyme or sound pretty e.g. "Coronation rickshaw grab." But in any case, the strings sound amazing and the melody is gorgeous, so overall a pretty good song. |

I doubt the "lady who went to the moon" is a reference to the USA, considering the song was written in 1967, two years before the moon landing. |
Belle & Sebastian – Get Me Away from Here, I'm Dying Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song isn't about a relationship in my opinion. I see it as some sort of self deprecating comment about the band themselves, and Murdoch is sort of poking fun at himself: "You could either be successful or be us With our winning smiles, and us With our catchy tunes, and us Now we're photogenic You know, we don't stand a chance" Of course, with If You're Feeling Sinister the band indeed did stand a chance of getting commercial success, but I think the song is referring to the band's status as a cult indie band. |

In the speaking bit, Lou really sounds like Frank Zappa. Zappa loved to parody sappy love songs as well. |
Joni Mitchell – California Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The instrument added on the "Oh, it gets so lonely..." part is slide guitar, which could be related to the California Country-rock scene of the early seventies which included people like Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles and Jackson Browne. Does anyone else think the red, red rogue could be a reference to Carey from the song of the same name. Carey was the head chef of the Dolphin Cafe (called the Mermaid Cafe in the song) in Matala, Crete and Joni said he was red-headed. Just a thought. |
The Streets – The Irony Of It All Lyrics | 16 years ago |
In the rasha rasha part, Terry sounds like Alex from a Clockwork Orange... drunk and disorderly and ultraviolent? |
