| Josh Garrels – Revelator Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The song as a whole is about the book of Revelation. The song takes the perspective of the author of the book, John 'the Revelator', hence the title of the song. The lyrics take on an abridged portrayal of Jesus the Christ, drawing all of its influence from various (rearranged) passages throughout the Revelation. The lyrics, by line: Had a dream I was alone... John is on the island of Patmos, when he suddenly experiences a vision. (Revelation 1.9-10) A vast expanse of complete unknown... John sees in his vision the heavens. (Revelation 4.1) Sea of glass so clear it shone / Like gold... In the heavens, John sees, in front of the Throne of God, a sea of glass. (Revelation 4.6) He later sees the City of God, which he describes as being like gold, and clear as glass. (Revelation 21.18) Then a voice like thunder clapped... The voice of Jesus the Christ, speaking to John. (Revelation 1.10) As a dead man I collapsed... John is filled with awe and fear, and immediately bows to the ground in reverence. (Revelation 1.17) "I am the first, I am the last / Now rise my son"... Jesus speaks, displaying his identity with God; he then tells John to stand. (Revelation 1.8,17; 22.13) Then behold ten thousand kings / And every creature worshiping / Every eye was on one thing / One man... John has a vision of all creation Jesus, the 'one man'. (Revelation 5.8-14) He's like a lion, like a lamb... Jesus is symbolized as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Revelation 5.5), as well as the Lamb of God (Revelation 5.6). As though slain he holds the plan... Jesus, being the Lamb of God, has been sacrificed for the sins of the world. (Revelation 5.6,9) He approaches the Throne of God and takes a scroll from God's hand. (Revelation 5.7) To make war and peace with man... A description of the contents of the scroll, how it brings both catastrophe for the wicked and salvation for the righteous. (Revelation 6-8.1) And reign on earth... Jesus is seen as the ruler of the whole world. (Revelation 1.5; 12.5) Holy, Holy, is the One / Who was and is, and is to come... This is the liturgy of the heavenly host. (Revelation 4.8) In a robe as red as blood / He comes forth... The robe Jesus wears is red with blood. (Revelation 19.13) Ride like lightning in the sky... The only reference to come from outside of the Revelation. An allusion to Jesus' words regarding the Coming of the Son of Man. (Matthew 24.27; Luke 17.24) On the war horse he draws nigh... Jesus comes in judgment, making war upon the wicked, riding a white horse. (Revelation 19.11) The same one we crucified... Jesus, who was crucified on a cross, comes in judgment on those responsible for his death. (Revelation 1.7) Will return again... A summary of the above portrayal: this is the Second Coming of Jesus the Christ. |

| Neon Horse – The Bathroom Wall Lyrics | 14 years ago |
She like the boys with the black hearts. Self-explanatory: She likes bad guys. She got an eye ta match. She has a black eye; implies that she gets stuck on guys who treat her like dirt, even hitting her. Tattoo on her neck says, "Burn bright and fast!" She'd rather live life hard and fast and exciting, rather than giving it meaning if it means living more gently. She comes late if she comes at all. Doesn't keep promises, doesn't commit. Don't you know her name? Maybe implying that she's not even that close to the people she sees? Picture on the bathroom wall. Jones' hall of fame! She's known among the bad guys as a go-to girl, a girl to use. She's a star, man. Just ask her. Light you up and take you down in flames. Goes back to the "burn bright and fast" line. Also implies that she'll be good to you (light you up) or tear you down (take you down in flames) depending on how you're treating her. Tell the truth, I'm still laughing. Don't take her seriously, because she's just some girl to be used? But maybe she's your thing. You can take her, I don't want her. |

| Broken Bells – Your Head Is on Fire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The song is about living in a mundane life, looking forward to a better one, right? So: Run and hide = Look out Your head's on fire = You're lying to yourself Whirling masses = Everything's moving around you, leaving you behind Rolling ashes = All the stuff that's in motion is already dead/pointless Dream of morning = You're dreaming that a new life comes soon GREENER DAWNING = You want that new life to be better (greener) than your current one Life in stasis = Because your life isn't going anywhere Folding aces = And you're giving up on all the truly good things in life "Career dawning" suggests that the speaker's job/life is ALREADY getting better, not mundane and in need of betterment, which is what the surrounding lyrics suggest. "Greener dawning" fits both the audio and the context better. |

| Project 86 – Say Goodnight To The Bad Guy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just to get a little thought going... The overall "theme" for the album this song is on is trying to rid the self of false saviors. The album makes repeated mention of the singer's false savior, calling him "false savior" directly, but also "paper champion" and "truthless hero." The album has a spoken poem titled "A Text Message To The So-Called Emperor," and it promises justice against this "emperor," along with the first and last songs mentioning the ruler of a "false empire" (i.e., the emperor) being brought to justice. This "false savior" figure is repeatedly called a FORMER friend throughout the album, and is described as being a leech of a person. So, considering the overarching theme of the album of dealing with false saviors who claim to be our friends... couldn't this "bad guy" ACTUALLY BE the bad guy, only told in a first-person view? |

| Project 86 – Normandy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Of course this is "obviously" about a car wreck, but Project 86 is a very symbolic and metaphoric group... They rarely write things "obviously," at least with their newer stuff. Their "My Will Be A Dead Man" song is "obviously" about an old west showdown, but digging deeper makes it clear something else is being depicted. It's been suggested that it is more about the needless arguments Andrew Schwab (the singer) and Alex Albert (the drummer) would get in on their down time, told in the form of a car crash. Alex wound up leaving the band before this album was created. xXx10290 has posted what Andrew Schwab posted on the album's website with the lyrics. He talks of pride, and the need for humility. Combine this with the talk of coming together like "magnetic fields" and how they "spent a lifetime on the beaches of Normandy in vain" [i.e., "spent a lifetime at war in vain"] and "what for [he] can't explain" definitely draws together this idea of two people not getting along well and that they eventually came at each other and parted from each other like a car crash. Hence, Andrew and Alex not getting along very well. But that is what some say. It may not be true, but it's a better explanation than it "obviously" being about a car wreck. |

doin_research: Have your mom read Andrew Schwab's book, "It's All Downhill From Here" (published by Relevant Books). If she wants to know how "they can call themselves a Christian band and never once mention Jesus' name," she can definitely find out there. |

| Project 86 – Caveman Jam Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The song was made in reference to an actual night that Schwab (the lead singer) experienced. In a book he wrote, he tells of a bad night he was having that eventually made itself right in the end. This song is (mostly) a true story. You caught me on my way to destroy stages You stopped me, bitter faced, to ask me this "Yo, I don't understand your agitation Why can't your write a track that's sensitive?" Schwab was running late for a show one night, and when he was going across the parking lot, an angry father and his son stopped him, with "bitter faces." The father and son had enjoyed the previous album from Project 86, but the new one (Truthless Heroes), had, in their opinion, been depressive and devoid of hope. They "couldn't understand" his "agitation," and wanted him to "write a track that's sensitive." So Schwab got to the show late. It was a low turnout at a small-time gig. A group of girls were right in front of the stage, grabbing at his legs, giggling to themselves. After the show, Schwab overheard them chattering about the music and how angry it was. "This dude is furious, I don't quite get it. I wonder why he doesn't just calm down." After the show Schwab went "to the merch booth", in case anyone would want autographs. He was feeling depressed because of how things were going related to the band, the record label, the turnout of the show, the father and son from earlier, and the music in general. A young man came up to Schwab, but wanted to talk with him in private. So they went to the tour bus to talk. The kid was drugged up (the "sweat dripping from his face in gallons" describing his obvious nervous and possibly high appearance). He told Schwab of how the powerful lyrics and the music itself had actually kept him from committing suicide. "All he wants to do is shake my hand," to thank Schwab for the music, for otherwise "he'd be six feet under," that is, if it wasn't for the "caveman jams" of Project 86. |
