Phantom Planet – After Hours Lyrics | 14 years ago |
From what I remember, Alex said this song was about a time when he went to a bar or a club somewhere, and he said they wouldn't let him in because he didn't "fit in", or something. So he left, and as he left he saw this girl in this really bright, pretty dress. I don't know. I think I butchered the story. He said that instead of going home and pouting he wrote a song. |

Also, Jeff says this about the song "Raise the Dead was a song that Alex wrote about halfway through the recording process that the band immediately embraced. It felt like a call to arms when we needed it the most. I think we were a little lost and this song united us and brought focus to the album. |

Phantom Planet – I Don't Mind Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Well,I remember Alex saying that originally this album was going to be about tortures. This song sounds like it's about a guy who's in love but keeps torturing himself regardless of the internal pain he's feeling. It also sounds like he's beginning to lose his mind. This is evident when he says "I spun the Tucker telephone, I turned my eyes to bone, I kept dialing your number, but you were not at home". A Tucker telephone is a torture device used at the Tucker State Prison Farm, Arkansas, in the 1960s. When they were torturing inmates, they would use telephone euphemisms, such as "long distance call". He is basically torturing himself trying to figure out what to do. |
Phantom Planet – Raise The Dead Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Go on and pull yourself up We climb, we climb, we climb, we climb Down there they get you, down there Again and again, forever and ever Go on and give it a tug Go on, pull up, I know it's tough But down there it's deeper than deep That hole is so steep And things are heavier Hear it now, the night is calling us Wave your hands and summon the spirits up Tonight, tonight, tonight we raise the dead! The dark is plaguing our hearts Pumping through us and collecting in our deepest parts Well down there it's dripping like tar And it's stuck to your arms And it's sticking to you too long The time is higher than high Something lurking in your shadows and it's trying to hide Oh no, we want it alive Trick it out, trick it out, trick it out of your insides Hear it now the night is calling us Wave your hands and summon the spirits up Tonight, tonight, tonight we RAISE THE DEAD! All our friends Have met their ends And father demons Tonight Go on and pull yourself up, up, up Go on, pull up, I know it's tough But down there they get you, down there Again and again Forver and ever Hear it now, the night is calling us Wave your hands and summon the spirits up Tonight, tonight, tonight we raise the dead! We're all together now We're all together now |
