To me, this song is talking about living in the loving moments, amidst a world of pain that wants nothing but to destroy the relationships between a man and his woman. Your basic Romeo and Juliet Dilema. Here is why: "We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment" = Nothing that led up to those moments of happiness matters anymore. "We are choosing to be here right now" = Choose to enjoy that moment of happiness and do not live inside the world that threatens it. "Hold on, stay inside this holy reality"= Escape into the world that feels so wonderful, despite its frailty. "This body holding me"= Be held by each other, not the cynics that want to tear the two apart. "Be my reminder here that I am not alone in this body"= The body feels pain- pain, because the two lovers cannot be together, for whatever worldly reasons. MJK is asking to be reminded that she love him, and that he is not alone in his feelings, both good and bad. "Feeling eternal, all this pain is an illusion"= Despite the world that fights to tear the two lovers apart, in their world (each other's arms) they are eternal. That would make anything else (the pain that the world inflicts) is merely an illusion. "Swirling round with this familiar parable"= I suspect this refers to a short story which expresses a moral display. "Spinning, weaving round each new experience "= Letting the world revolve around the love, and not the persecution. Use the joy as a center pint, a point of reference. "Recognize this as a holy gift" = Appreciate what they have when they are together, instead of dwelling on the sacrifice with which it is exchanged. "Celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing" = Basically just be happy to have those few and precious moments together. "Remember, we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion" = Do NOT let the worldly issues that threaten the love that the two share tear them apart, but instead, remain eternally strong, within each others arms. |

This song got me sober. I swear. Well, God and myself truly got me sober... but this was the song that was stuck in my head, which inspired the enlightenment which I had some to fully embrace. You see, my love left me because of the stupid choices that I wsa making ("...the Devil and his had me down, in love with the dark side I'd found...") and I was near the breaking point ("...up to my neck sure to drown...") And the thought of losing my true love to that awful lifestye terrified me. So I made that committment ("...but you changed that all for me, lifted me up turned me 'round...") and I wished it all away, so as not to lose him just one more day. Thank you Maynard! |

This song could be about somebody- most likely in drug recovery, or earning redemption for something else, by some other means- who comes back wanting to start anew. They speak of the past as if it never happened, does not matter, or is not their past at all, but somebody else's ("recall the deeds as if their all some one else's atrocious stories..."). The truth is, how do you go around making your amends to those that you have not only hurt, but killed. I mean this figuratively, of course. I love this song. It is so powerful. |

I think that most people would rather endure physical pain- which is agonizing, but only temporary- instead of emotional pain- which is just as agonizing and may never heal completely. Be honest: don't we most often wish that we could simply let somebody pinch us, or hit us with a shoe, or something of the like, to prove that we love them? I know that I would take a bullet for the man that I love. Chances are, in this life, that I will never need to. However, it is guarunteed that my heart will take a few bullets for him. Its selfish to wish to trade the physical for the emotional conveyence, and no doubt a cop-out, but sometimes its the bargaining that we try to make. I guess thats what Anders means by saying that he would "crawl through knives, an inch per tear" for this woman, if she can be the things he needs. Its all about how far you are willing to go. |

| Why is Maynard "praising" Judith Marie in this song, yet he brought himself to title a song "Orestes" (From Mer De Noms, by A Perfect Circle)? Orestes, for those of you who do not know, was the name from Greek mythology of a young man who murdered his mother. Matricide is a heavy subject in literature. Maynard's ode is no exception. If you haven't, I suggest you listen to this song (then, if it would amuse you, listen to "Wings for Marie" again). "Orestes" is such a beautiful, beautiful song... and all about killing his mother.
