That's close I think a simple wish, but when I hear it, I hear the singer switching between two states in his head. Carolyne, the woman he's in love with, and he's so infatuated by her, that it's literally killing him, and he's asking her to kill him, and release him from his torment. just leave my memory away and try, i'll try and make my case [Everyone gives him the hard talking to, about how this woman isn't the right one for him, or that he should just let her go.] and you give me authority, you give me authority, you give me authority to lie [However, being around her gives him the ultimate authority, to lie to everyone, including himself, that this is the right woman, that he's in love with her, and it's worth it all] kill, kill me carolyne i know you love me, but you'd feel better if you just suck it up and kill, kill me carolyne you know its nothing sentimental but i really really need you [The chorus is him lying, he knows deep down she doesn't love him, and it really is sentimental to him, that's the authority she gave him to lie. To me, I think this song is about a love that was happening between two people, but one side was incapable/hesitant of moving forward from an ex. So the other party decided to end it by being just friends, or moving on completely We'll take it easy, tigers in a cage We're pacing on our pads, and waiting For the time to come in reverie Our lazy bones ache for our dowry [Basically saying they want to wait for each other, they pace back and forth waiting for the day that one ex will be gone, so it can be just him and her. Both parties are so tired of this waiting game, they wish to lay down together "our lazy bones ache.."] You can't hold on to the thrill So I hope you find your will to follow through [However she can't/won't move on, or it isn't up to her to move forward, but he wishes that one day she can move forward so he tells her that he hopes she can follow through with this breakup] What we invented, I am now ending Hold on to who you love [Basically the guy understands this love is something they invented together, and neither party wants to let go of the other, because it's what they want. Awesome new Bloc Party song. But from the lyrics it seems that this song is about a relationship starting to crumble: If your right hand is causing you pain Cut it off, cut it off If your colours have started to run Let them all run, run away from you [Basically saying that anything that is wrong for the girl to just let go of.] There is lightning in this room Above our heads, waiting to strike I'm a thinker not a talker Put your faith, your faith in God [Lightning Waiting to Strike means the hardships are on the way for this couple. the 2nd line is Basically stating that the Guy isn't going to talk about the problems, even if he sees them tearing them apart. He's basically telling the girl, "Put your Faith in God that this relationship works out, Because I don't have the words to make it better."] We were hoping for some romance All we found was more despair We must talk about our problems We are in a state of flux [It means that they wanted the relationship to be the love that they wanted but in the end it was just more hardship than they could bare, and they have to talk it out, because they are at a change in their lives (state of flux).] I'd kill for an adventure Just you and I, in the ? Dancing till we knew So all that we've learnt disappears [Saying that he wishes that they could just run away from their looming problems, to have things like they used to be.] When you shouted at me I saw my father in the second grade Concerned and kind Yet unable to reach me [Apparently there was an argument between the two, and her yelling at him was showing that shes worried at the present state of the relationship because she truly does love him.] Really awesome tune overall, very house music sounding. Can't wait for the CDS to come out. |
