It's definitely about her ex husband who cheated on her.
As far as the second verse, they met while she was in a relationship with someone who was also cheating. "you were there, there, to expose him, what a smooth plan."
"Sad" is probably directed at Hayley, but that's it. I doubt she was that important as a "friend" (don't make me laugh) to the Duprees.

This song reminds me so much of.....my family. It's really written in a way that's neither too tragic nor too glossed over- denial and failure in equal measure, just like growing up with an alcoholic parent. |

Sherri and Stacy wrote the song together and said that it was an inside joke between the two of them. The Stacy/Chad stuff is unsubstantiated. People gab and gab about how it's true, but don't provide any evidence. It's pretty venomous to suggest that Sherri's husband's got something going on with her sister, I'd want to see proof. |
