David Bowie – Nathan Adler Lyrics 10 years ago
This was just another monologue from 1.Outside. This time from Detective Nathan Adler, the hard-working private eye who's on the case for Baby Grace Blue's murderer.

David Bowie – Running Gun Blues Lyrics 10 years ago
The main character definitely is suffering from shell-shock. He's obsessed with killing the Vietnamese and getting his fair share of kills for the day. Sounds like a trigger-happy person, to me.

David Bowie – Win Lyrics 10 years ago
They did actually release a 30th anniversary edition of YA like just recently. I got it! :-D Win is totally about winning of course and it deals with being number 1.

David Bowie – Lady Grinning Soul Lyrics 10 years ago
This is quite the erotic Bowie singing here. "Touch the fullness of her breast, feel the love of her caress." Quite the passionate love-making song. Calming, hypnotizing, and soothing, yet haunting.

David Bowie – Girls Lyrics 10 years ago
First of all, it's a lowly b-side on the album Never Let Me Down. The meaning: a very sad man talking about what girls mean to him. 'They come and they go' that sort of thing. Sounds like the narrator had a very bad relationship.

submissions
David Bowie – Sell Me a Coat Lyrics 10 years ago
One of Bowie's early 1967-1968 love songs. Jack Frost, I'm guessing, represents another man. The 'summer girl' could mean a fling, but I'm not quite sure. The main man in the song misses her like crazy and wants her back, so, Hello! What's this? I'll get her a nice coat! A little bribery never hurt! ...ok I made that up.

David Bowie – Pallas Athena Lyrics 10 years ago
One of my least favorite instrumentals, this one is on Black Tie White Noise. It has a few interesting remixes, though.

David Bowie – I Keep Forgettin' Lyrics 10 years ago
This is one of Bowie's covers on the album Tonight, besides the Beach Boys' 'God Only Knows.' This is pretty much the complete opposite of a pleasant love song. This man is stubborn, trying to get the girl back when he knows that she doesn't love him anymore, but there's something in the back of his mind saying 'I still have a chance. She still loves me.' But when he yet again attempts to get her back, he gets rejected. How lovely.

David Bowie – Shake It Lyrics 10 years ago
All I have to say on this one is that it's a very nice song to dance to. It's basically a song to dance to and to 'shake it.' Unless it has to do with some man taking a girl to New York to 'Shake It' even more.

submissions
David Bowie – The Drowned Girl Lyrics 10 years ago
A song from the BBC musical Baal by Bertolt Brecht, this is a short and morbid song about, well, a drowned girl. There's hardly anything to say, except how it explains about her decaying and deteriorating after her death.

David Bowie – Karma Man Lyrics 10 years ago
An early 1968 song, Karma Man tells the short story about 'A figure sitting cross-legged on the floor he's clogged and clothed in saffron robes. His beads are all he owns' Good description. The Karma Man could also be a symbol of life or about the ways of life or how life works.

David Bowie – Ricochet Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought this song on Let's Dance was real exciting. It's not the most popular song on there, even though it was the name of Bowie's 1983 Serious Moonlight documentary, about all the places he went and things he saw on his tour. My favorite lyric is 'These are the prisons, these are the crimes.' To me, that is saying, 'You did your best. Sorry. That's the way life works. That's the way it goes.'

David Bowie – Julie Lyrics 10 years ago
A B-side in the album never Let Me Down, it's a song about a girl, well, hence the title, and what it's explaining is that it's a simple love song. 'Julie, I'm yours till the end.' Yup, that's a no-brainer. It has a constant beat to it, which i like. The man of the song is explaining to her that he doesn't want her to forget him. Julie isn't with him. She was, but the man is watching over her.

submissions
David Bowie – Yassassin Lyrics 10 years ago
This isn't one of your ordinary Bowie songs. On the album Lodger, Yassassin, or Turkish for Long Live, goes in depth to how an ordinary guy just lives life like anyone else does, except he does not care. He'll do whatever and think whatever he wants.

submissions
David Bowie – In the Heat of the Morning Lyrics 10 years ago
Very interesting. I mean it's a love song, but come on. This goes into detail. 'No man loved like I love you.' The man of the story is trying to get the girl.

David Bowie – It Ain't Easy Lyrics 10 years ago
A Ray Davies song, this is a great cover. In a nutshell, this song means 'easier said than done.'

submissions
David Bowie – It's Gonna Be Me Lyrics 10 years ago
It's one of two ballads. The other is Who Can I Be Now? It's an outtake from the album Young Americans.

David Bowie – Who Can I Be Now? Lyrics 10 years ago
This is an outtake from the Young Americans sessions. It's more of a ballad than a song itself. You have to figure out what it means. As far as this song goes, it's not just looking at the lyrics to find out what it means. You have to listen closely.

David Bowie – Aladdin Sane (1913-1938-197?) Lyrics 10 years ago
And on a side note, this song and the whole album is pretty much like Ziggy Stardust, but more like Ziggy In America. The Jean Genie music video was filmed in New York.

David Bowie – Andy Warhol Lyrics 10 years ago
And on a side note, this was a song for Dana Gillespie.

David Bowie – 1984/Dodo Lyrics 10 years ago
Totally, Oni. A whole different character. I had to read 1984 before I understood the novel fully...like the film Labyrinth. I wish the musical would have been made as well, but as Bowie said in 1997 in an interview for his 50th birthday, "I've written many musicals and done many...in my head! Ha-ha-ha!" But Mrs. Orwell didn't give him the rights for a musical for a couple reasons. 1. Bowie was obviously coked up and not sane enough to ask for it the right way. 2nd. She said that making a movie out of the novel was 'horrible enough'.

David Bowie – 1984 Lyrics 10 years ago
To answer your question, 2nd man, look under Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family. It will answer your question completely. To tell you the truth, though, I still like 1984 coupled with 'Dodo'

David Bowie – Heroes Lyrics 10 years ago
By the way, in a rare interview in 1977, the year the album came out, even though it means SO much now, these were his words. "Heroes is a pretty little love song. That's what it is."

David Bowie – I've Been Waiting for You Lyrics 11 years ago
Great Bowie version of a Neil Young cover. This is obviously about someone who is lonely and waiting for the right woman to come along.

David Bowie – I Feel Free Lyrics 11 years ago
An okay Cream cover. Before he did this song on Black Tie White Noise in 1993, he performed live in 1972. I believe this song is based on wantoing to be free but not quite getting the concept.

submissions
David Bowie – God Only Knows Lyrics 11 years ago
By the way, I figured out why he made that comment. It was because in one of his early bands, they performed it live before the Beach Boys even wrote the damn song.

David Bowie – I Am with Name Lyrics 11 years ago
This is sung by Ramona A. Stone, a character in David's short story, The Nathan Adler Diaries. Then, it turned out to be the well-known album 1.Outside or just Outside. Ramona is a body art dealer, selling the wildest pieces of art made from parts of the human anatomy. I Am With Name is originally the title of one of the Outside outtakes. And it goes more into the story and Bowie is palying around with her voice. Real interesting.

David Bowie – Days Lyrics 11 years ago
It's quite contrary to the song Within You. In an interview, he said that he is quite selfish about what he wrote in 2002 and 2003 (as I said in Cactus), but what I meant about the contrary was that in Within You the lyric was "Everything I've done I've done for you." In this, it's "All I've done, I've done for me."

Thanks for the tip. Wow. I mean I knew Bowie played the baby in the actual track of Magic Dance, but wow.

In a way it's the same as Candidate. Just a demo. Can be found on the Ryko edition of Diamond Dogs.

David Bowie – Cactus Lyrics 11 years ago
Most of his songs on Heathen were about how he felt about himself and the world. HE said in an interview that he is very selfish about what he writes. Not that that's a bad thing. This song in particular, though, was a great Pixies cover. Another cover in the album is I've Been Waiting for you, which was originally done by Neil Young.

David Bowie – I'm Afraid of Americans Lyrics 11 years ago
There's a lot to be said about this highly controversial song. First, I think it has to do with the fear of American culture and all the violence that was happening back then (and still is today). In the video, Trent Reznor, or "Johnny," represents the fear that David has inside of him. There's a lot of paranoia. NOW: Some tidbits!!! The original version of the song didn't have NIN in it, but to spruce it up, they remixed it for David. Originally, the character was supposed to be called "Dummy." The song originally appeared in the 1995 NC-17 movie "Showgirls." In the background I could disctinctly hear "I'm afraid of the animals, I'm afraid of King Kong, I'm afraid I can't help it, I'm afraid I can't!" Then, I have a very weird coincidence that I noticed. In the 1998 movie, "The Gunslinger's Revenge" or El Mio West, The main character's name is Johnny, and the movie takes place in America. Coincidence, no?

David Bowie – Andy Warhol Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow. Bowie actually did meet Warhol in 1971. There's an interesting 18 second video on youtube that shows Bowie smirking in a familiar picture. This was one of two tribute songs on Hunky Dory, which, of course, both artists hated it.

David Bowie – Amsterdam Lyrics 11 years ago
I'll have to agree with Motown on this one. This song and most of Never Let Me Down, with the exception of Time Will Crawl.

My mistake. I guess this WAS a Kurt Weil composition. Honest mistake. Kind of reminds me of the song, "Amsterdam," though.

David Bowie – How Lucky You Are Lyrics 11 years ago
It is hard to get ahold of, though...but I got it!!! Yippee!!! Lol. Originally, this was called Miss Peculiar and this was originally recorded during the Hunky Dory sessions. Pretty cool, eh? Nice beat, too.

David Bowie – Heroes Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow..."Heroes" doesn't even deserve a comment...wow...such creativity. But if you think about it, it's a lot more than the music in this song. It's not exactly written for someone, either. But then again, it could be. I have nothing more to say. This song renders me speechless.

David Bowie – Hallo Spaceboy Lyrics 11 years ago
Originally, the song was an instrumental called, "Moondust" by Reeves Gabrels. I hate to say it but the album version sucked. The Pet Shop Boys Remix was incredible, though. This brings up androgeny again and possibly a sense of bisexuality/homosexuality (Do you like girls or boys? It's confusing these days) I'm still trying to figure out who Paddy is...God I love the story of 1.Outside, though.

David Bowie – Growin' Up Lyrics 11 years ago
What a lovely Bruce Springsteen cover. It's on the second disc of the 30th anniversary edition of Diamond Dogs and it's one of the Ryko bonus tracks on Pinups. Bowie and Bruce just don't mix, to tell you the truth (see It's Hard to Be A Saint In the City.)

David Bowie – Golden Years Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow. What a great 'doo-wop' song. Angie said it was written for her, but then again, Cher thought the same thing. This coke-induced Bowie made a great hit in this album. Enjoy the golden years...don't waste time, tomorrow's another day, all that bollocks. A great song, nonetheless.

David Bowie – God Only Knows Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow. A lame Beach Boys cover...sorry. A funny comment that he made about their song, 'Dance, Dance, Dance.' He said in the Complete David Bowie, "Dance, Dance, Dance was never the BEach Boys' song. It was mine to begin with." (laughs)

David Bowie – Future Legend Lyrics 11 years ago
Wow. What an opening to a legendary album. Kinda reminds me of the spoken monologue in 1.Outside. This is all apocalyptic and very dark and disturbing. Of course, this describes very odd things. "Fleas the size of rats suck on rats the size of cats." This is all happening after some apocalyptic-like event. Wow. This is some of the inspiration from George Orwell's astounding novel, 1984.

David Bowie – Five Years Lyrics 11 years ago
Ziggy's from space, an extraterrestrial come to rock and roll in our world. Why he has 'Five Years,' I still don't know, but what a great song and a great opening, especially to a legendary album. It may be the end of the world, but I think Ziggy had other plans in store.
