Manchester Orchestra – La-Di-Da Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think that's a very good point. He definitely sympathizes with them but wants to see them stand up and take some action. In an earlier version of the song, he says "the music man stands on the outskirts of town" in the second verse and instead of saying "No one listens," he says "but no one loves him." In listening to that version, I always got the feeling that Andy felt himself to be the music man. I could be way off base with that, it's just the impression I got. I don't think that the first verse is necessarily related to the second as some people have said, I think it's just another example of a bad life. Either way, the situations are pretty clear but the first verse is an abusive husband and the second verse is a depressed singer/songwriter who drinks a lot. I also think that the drinking contributes to those problems. Actually, I just realized that drinking is a factor in both cases. Perhaps this is important or maybe just coincidence. |
