| I like your interpretations but i didn't really see that when i saw the lyrics. I was thinking that the grinning mouths represented the meaningless grins of fake happiness we all show to pretend it's all alright when it isn't and we all hide with it and think oh well the government will take care of us. And our tongues loll in our mouths trying to get words oout but we still live in this dream state, while they have a darker vision with us in it. The plague is then forced on us through or schooling systems or whatever. And the questioning lines refer back to the lyrics of backlit. And The Shouts abound means that the truth is so powerful it deserves shouts but because we are so diluted into false hoods of existence only whispers can burn through. | |

I agree with brokenimperfect it's a wonderful line. This is similar to so did we, in the sense that it's about something that seems to be destined to fail but the person still persists. He is not mad, although he has reason to be because he's in search of this intangible thing, that he can't reach but he's got a calm because this is the right thing to search for for him. His thought is clearer than the saner man, is saying that he is not sane, or at least to societies common perceptions of sanity, but yet his thoughts are clearer his purpose is direct and not tainted. So the in her he saw beauty overflowing, what a great adjective, overflowing. It was so unbelievable that it overflowed. He saw this unbelievable faith empowering hope. Whether she was one person or thing, or various multiple things. Through the tattered clothes meaning that she or whatever she represents was seen by others as to be worn or tattered but he saw through it. In other words the earth in a sense, tattered and destroyed at parts but sees this undeniable beauty and hope in it. She was his queen as in he couldn't rule without her, or couldn't be without her, she was a queen meaning despite his feelings she was it by itself. In dreams he wanders the dark in search of her light the dreams are either the dreams at night or the dream of our perception on life. And he wanders the dark, so dark is the absence of light meaning, he's wandering this hopeless tattered land of dreams or illusions, in search of this hope this overflowing beauty, that makes so he is capable of RULING. it's unbelievable how so few of words carry so much meaning. Sure it's off of an idea of a book but it means so much more. |

| Its meant to be contradictory, its from the point of view of a dog which is being beaten by the lamb.. But obviously a dog watches over the lamb so its kind of meant to be the opposite, its taking on the metaphor of the complex relationship of a relationship where someone is being beaten and the other strikes back from when its too much. It basically goes over the morality of the situation and is quite powerful, the whole album is based on it. Each song applies. | |

We crashed is just showing the sudden change... like that we werent really welcome, that we kind of go against the natural flow of the earth. Its a very ambiguous statement its not direct like we just fucking came on an asteroid. And im the opposite of saviorsalvation, are you serious? This is the best song because it is probably the best song of all time. This song is intense and sung with such passion that of course it is loved, you have to at least respect that. | |

| Hah i completely disagree with sinister morality and effpee, since when has isis ever wrote about the bible? Naw its more about the Superficialities in society and the predestined control like McDonald's commercials controlling a little kid. Its similar to what geofare wrote, the mortal sun wasnt the fiction, that's why they are seperated by paragraph and parts in the song, because and seperated with the association with panopticon and governmental control. People are in fiction, our mind sets, the sun is very obviously the one not part of it, watching over. At the same time the sun represents the panopticon tower... sooo its ALSO representing the opposite, what is really causing much of this. | |

The red sea is internal bleeding done... from yourself. Think about it, (smoking) blackened lungs (fluid/mucus/blood), tar seeps, Inject and remove, sweat soaked yellow, breathless trying to protect yourself from feelings. Then there is the insects from mosquito control stinging at your feet, so every step you take is affected by the people around you, and so the pain is like stabs in the eyes, and your blind to everything around you and to (reference to future albums) what the government and others are doing. and in the speech in the beginning it's like he is lost in this red sea, and is loosing human connections as a result. But since Isis uses a theme with women i think from the other point of view it is a loss of her human connection. |

Glad to see so many metal listening christians, actually you guys it's not really about satan in my opinion... i mean first of all the pale horse is of God not satan and he is searching for those who dont follow him, sooo i think this song is more about fighting temptation. I mean look at the video for this song. In the video they devil is whispering into a man's ear (or screaming) and he is blind folded and held to a chair. This means he is fighting this uncontrolled temptation in the back of his head. and whether or not Mikael Åkerfeldt is atheist or whatever he might be i doubt that he is a satanist let alone condones what most satanists support. But of course i certainly dont know for sure. |
