Spoon – Inside Out Lyrics | 1 year ago |
I've played this song so many times. I liked what seemed to be lyrics resisting fanaticism but the more I looked at the lyrics it really sounds like a spiritual song. I think he's talking to the higher powers in life (gravity/time/only you I need) Could be a love song but I def see the lyrics as a celebration of his connection with this and how he's just a satellite who doesn't have time for a groups' perception of his ideas. They still wash his feet (try to include him in the group) but he doesn't need it. When time and gravity wear him to the point where he has nothing left to give, he gives himself up to the only thing he needs and then time/gravity/servitude have no hold on him anymore when he embraces this. |

Radiohead – High and Dry Lyrics | 3 years ago |
There is a lot straight from their mouths about this song: Thom: "An accident just like Evel Knievel" Answerphone-circa 1995 NME, December 9th 1995 "As far as I can remember, the words were originally about some loony girl I was going out with, but after a while, they got mixed up with ideas about success and failure," explains Radiohead front man Thom Yorke about the lyrical inspiration behind the Capitol act's song "High And Dry." [...] "'High And Dry' was an old demo we thought was rubbish, you know, too Rod Stewart or something," Yorke adds. "But when we came back to the track one day, it seemed like a mirror showing us all the things we had been through. After 'Creep' and the fatigue from all the touring, we were scared shitless, really, and people were interfering. We had to claim our creative freedom . . . That'll never happen again. Now we have so much freedom, we barely know what to do with it." Billboard, February 17th 1996 |
Nothing But Thieves – I'm Not Made by Design Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Conor Mason has said it is a bangin' rock song about Atheism. The lyrics are pretty obvious. |
Lovedrug – Casino Clouds Lyrics | 6 years ago |
'm coming back to this song 10 years later. "Fighting for the manacle girls and boys like a kettle of keys one of which might unlock all of these" Could be a reference to wanting to free people from bonds of marriage or something deeper like fighting the sentimentality of a first love. Manacles representing his mind not being able to free itself from the emotions. "I forgot to call on the Keystone Clan" I had to look up the song 'Keystone Clan' and found that this song is related to the topics in Casino Clouds. "I got us here I saw the sign now breathe in the air and you'll be fine" Nostalgia and regret can create suffocating feelings. Breathing deep relieves stress, panic attacks etc. "Now I will never fall in love Now I will never really explain myself but honey I will sing" this last line is tough and very personal as I get older. You accept some things are over and can't be attained but you can always sing or express your sorrow about it |
Passion Pit – Sleepyhead Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"Peas and the Corn"....."Extra Hominy Please!" If this song is about a heroin overdose, then the above is the pixie/elf voice lyrics at the beginning of the song. I think the writer might be on X not heroin as he is happily writing about the dreams and dream state of his/her lover.....but really? I think it is just a cute song about going in and out of sleep with his lover. |
Wilco – Forget The Flowers Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It could be about funerals |
Andrew Bird – Oh No Lyrics | 13 years ago |
He doesn't mention it specifically in his blog, but I thought the calcium references were a way to describe our general inability to cry when we need to, so the calcium builds up in your heart until you find yourself buried in a mine, there is calcium in tears? men have trouble crying which is what I think that line about 'squinting your eyes' is about If people could cry when they are angry then we wouldn't do destructive things that would put us in jail either literally or figuratively |
Default – Wasting My Time Lyrics | 13 years ago |
yeah it was a caustic post I actually really like this song it's a relationship song sure but he's at the end in this song he's given up, not personally .... they're rich |

Default – Wasting My Time Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Suicide..... but they have to run out of money on the song first before that happens or are a bunch of fucking preps from 'all is good B.C.' even aware that they wrote a song about something this profound what does it matter? they have kids and wives that they settled with while people with real problems contemplate this song It's not for real and we're wasting our time....WASTING our time - - on someone else's angst if it was ever even there at all...... |
Vampire Weekend – Cousins Lyrics | 13 years ago |
All I can say is that it takes all ten fingers when I cover this on the piano but it is fun to play it, the bass line is all over the place They're educated so their lyrics are going to be complex It's a mix of direct statements about lineage and subtle snide inference to the wealthy that talk more about art that actually doing it (the last verse) "Interesting colors I discovered myself" - found their own style and perform it "If your art life is gritty you'll be toasting my health" - I'm doing it - you're not and this is the best line, a complex and smart jab at critics and wealthy "artists" "If an interest in culture should be lining the walls When your birth right is interest you could just accrue it all" - the wealthy and educated dictate what is art and what is not and when you are born with money and privilege you are entitled to say whatever you want and buy whatever you want they don't have to do anymore than talk about it and own it |
Morrissey – Interesting Drug Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The world is falling around the new hopes of the young ideal So they take the drugs that help them cope the parents don't approve so the song is directed towards them more than anything the young persons in the song refer to the interesting drug as the drug that helped their parents cope with the dismal truth just as they are taking their own unique drug to help with the same realization |
John Mayer – Vultures Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is my favorite song on Continuum I think it's about the fear of going onstage and performing. The vultures represent doubt and apathy that will over come him if he doesn't keep moving and playing. The chorus backs this idea up. |
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – La Costa Brava Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love it when bands write songs like this. The vocal rounds at the end effin' rock. I like the use of names in this, simple but again, rocks. |
The Honeydogs – Truth Serum Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I thought it was about arranged marriage but Adam Levy wrote to me -- "i wrote that song about my son who wanted to go into the marines a couple years ago and fight in Iraq. it was a plea for him not to go. Nice stab at interpretation, though. The Moloch reference is about parents sacrificing children for wars. "Spar with him, grow old with him but don't let them turn you into fodder, boy." |
The Honeydogs – Elan Vital Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song....but.. I have no idea what it's about |
Matchbox Twenty – Paint Me Blue Lyrics | 15 years ago |
wow the lyrics on this site of tabitha's secret songs are way off |
The Shins – Sleeping Lessons Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There are so many good interpretatios but I think it's literal about having the nerve to get off of drugs whether it's prescription or 'illicit' the 'jump from the hook'....line sounds direct |
Toad the Wet Sprocket – P.S. Lyrics | 15 years ago |
yeah this is one of their best I like the double meaing of "don't speak your mind, you'll wake the child" the child at home and the child inside he's drinking away |
Joshua James – The New Love Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song deserves a comment perfect |
Placebo – Pure Morning Lyrics | 16 years ago |
do people like this ever have a pure morning? ((if you cleared your head for a week you'd either top yourself or go to work at the factory)) but they're not going to do that as long as they can continue to make shit-faced songs about fuck all glamorous! but TheLines need you and they will get you |
Gnarls Barkley – St. Elsewhere Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's confusing to leave any type of place for better or worse and have an unmistakable opinion or feeling of it without someone else (lover/friend/peer/teacher) to contrast He sings about what a better place he is in and is going to be but the music says something else, yes? |
Gin Blossoms – Lost Horizons Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Doug Hopkins..... This was one of your few "Moments of Clarity" |
Chris LeDoux – A Cowboy's Just Got To Ride Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'd LOVE or PAY to see Chris LeDoux rope Toby Keith and sing that song to him while he's tied up and repeat the chorus until Toby Keith Covel realized his calling to the Wal-Green's electronic department |

The Shins – New Slang Lyrics | 16 years ago |
James Mercer would be the male Tori Amos if he could play an instrument with any virtuosity Great impressionistic music set to a bedside journal and I'm only 1/4 snide when I write that |
Tori Amos – Space Dog Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh...YES! to be able to take the finest drugs, write music, and say whatever enters your head AND always have a manager and money to back you up well, that's just Aces!! Great pianist and lyricist but if we have to decipher everything you write then try this..... Little girls are gutted by the Savior Julliard looks down and cuts with her razor sends notes and trinkets and fairies like rain all the Little Debbie Juggernauts follow her tunes in pain thoughts and beauty rape party and fade Jim Jones still throws concerts and they always get drunk on Kool Aid |
