The Weepies – Hope Tomorrow Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is so funny in its play on our modern cultural standards of beauty. Men are supposed to look like women, and women are supposed to have the bodies of teenage boys. Rubens, however, was a painter back in the 1600s and all of his women were full-figured, but still gorgeous. I think it's about a man talking to his partner and kind of laughing at what's supposed to be beautiful, but finding his partner the most beautiful thing, in part because she's his companion through life.

The Weepies – Hard to Please Lyrics 15 years ago
I think it's the other side of "ignorance is bliss." You could be dumb and happy, but she can't be. She's always pushing harder and trying hard, but in her dreams the other side of the fence is so much better. She thinks about "lightening up" raising her Dixie cup high to whatever anthem is the song of happy people, but she can't "run her ship aground." Instead of keeping her head down and out of the way like everyone else, she has to keep being tough.

Ingrid Michaelson – Giving Up Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm going to have to say definitely the "I'm not looking around anymore" vision. Sometimes finding someone you're in love with is so scary you still go out and pretend it's not real. You flirt, you have a good time, you make passes, have a drink, think about what it might be like to change things up for a night or a lifetime. I think this song is about saying even though being out there and in love with someone, it's even scarier "giving up" on all that. We like to hold on to the game because it's a safety net.

The other thing I love about this song is that it's a logical progression of worries. From "What if the paint chips from the wall?" (first apartment together which is sure to be awful) to "What if your eyes close before mine?" (how do you live without the love of your life.) Beautiful song.

Love this song.

Smart girls don't fall in love. They stand up, head held high, solve equations, and save the world. All in a day's work. This song seems to talk about how the smart girl refuses to fall and be caught by someone else, but how she just can't help herself. She's scared of being helpless, or at least losing control, but she does it anyway, and in the falling wonders, "If I be the girl will you be my guy?" Because she knows that the only one to pick her up if he misses is herself. Scary lyrics, beautiful song.

Mandy Moore – Extraordinary Lyrics 18 years ago
I just found out that this song was co-written by The Weepies. It's definitely the same whimsical, hopeful style, which probably explains why I like it even though I am not a huge Mandy Moore fan.

Michael Bublé – Home Lyrics 18 years ago
I hated this song because it was overplayed. And then, I went on a semester long study abroad trip, and after the "afterglow" of arriving was over, it meant everything. Especially "another sunny day/I'm lucky I know/But I want to go home/I've got to go home" It's that feeling of having EVERYTHING you've ever wanted, and not being able to share it with the people who matter most.

Something Corporate – 21 And Invincible Lyrics 18 years ago
Is it just me or is this the world's official college song?

And I think the first verse "so I could go to heaven just like you" is more about self-righteousness, and how it's just not worth it. Who gives a damn what everyone else thinks? And the next "I'll have a big house....etc." is about that once you're an adult you have responsibilities. At 21, you don't have anything like that. You're alive just for the sake of living. Thinking about heaven or paying your taxes, the ideas are just superfluous. For this one hour, you are everything you want to be. And no one can interfere with that.

Michael Bublé – Everything Lyrics 18 years ago
I love Michael Buble anyway, because I've been swing dancing for 2 years now. I especially love "When you smile at me, you know exactly what you do." It's true. It's definitely the idea of, "You know you're going to get away with this, don't you?"

And someone did sing this song to me. And I was liquid jello. So take notice men: Michael Buble is a god. And you should all follow his example.
