Jay Farrar – Greenwich Time Lyrics

It's tough to tell but he might actually be saying "woke up, psycho screaming..."
and its actually some "Loggerhead's dream descending..." not 'loiter head' lol, my mistake. |

Counting Crows – A Murder Of One Lyrics

Great song, I can listen to over and over again. The live versions are awesome...I've heard one from a 'lost' bootleg I came upon called True Heart where Adam does some great improv at the nd and there is that epic 14 minute live one from Paris off the re-release of August where there is about 10 minutes of imrovisation. Great song, try and get your hands on a live version. |

Counting Crows – Ghost Train Lyrics

I see where Adam's coming from with the the guy leaving the train but it can also be interpreted as the guy in the song was going to be with her (on the train) and she made him leave and now he missees her and only remmbers how they frist met and how he wanted to be with her. It could also mean he saw this girl and wanted to pursue her and ride 'the train' with her of love and a relationship but he saw it leave and her leve and she never took him in or let him on and not he just rembers first seeing her and how he wanted to be a part of her life even a little bit but he could never even do that. I just think it can have alot of different meanings but overall great song. Beautiful, haunting, sad. |

Hootie & the Blowfish – Be The One Lyrics

I think this one's pretty self explanetory although the lyrics are a bit jumbled. It's a angry and sad song about, well, wanting to be the one for the person you love. Throwing aside everything else and telling them to forget everyone else and take them. |

Jay Farrar – Greenwich Time Lyrics

This song is really great even though the regular version is short. The live one from Stone, Steel, and Bright Lights is a bit longer and Jay adds in a harmonica. I think this song has alot of political meaning, being confused about the world and how to vote, but you know you have to make a decision and it will be important (i will not let the world pass by). |

Jars of Clay – Surprise Lyrics

When I hear this song I think of dreams we have and how they seem so real (For a second I thought I saw your eyelids rise,
For a moment something restless caught you by surprise) but then we wake up its all over, it was only a good dream that won't come true. (These are just placebos to make us feel all right,
Illusions in our pockets make our feathers float us high.) This song is so sad and beautiful at the same time. |

Ryan Adams – Afraid Not Scared Lyrics

I think this song is about telling someone how you truly feel about them - you're not afraid to talk to them or release your feelings but your scared about the future when they give you that look saying "I don't see you like that/I don't want ot be with you. They're shocked and even by them not moving or responding you know you've lost them from that empty gaze. |

This song is beautiful. I think it's about being on the outside - how someone really doesn't notice or respond to you but you're there to be that person's angel and help them, be by their side. |

Pearl Jam – All or None Lyrics

This is one of my favorites from Ed. I think it's about pursuing a girl and a meaningful relationship even when you know things will never work out the way you want them to. But it's all or none - you might as well still try and just hope that something remotely good can come out of it rather than sit back and think how you should have done more. |

Pretty simple; having a relationship with someone and then going seperate ways but still "hanging on" to that person even though the two of you could never get it right. Sad but true. |

Son Volt – Atmosphere Lyrics

This song seems to be reflecting on loss, love and hate in this world - most times all go together. "Madmen on both sides of the fence" has a certain political meaning - fighting over issues in society. "Translate the face, wash of the dust, smoke plume twilight, american tears: Trying to connect with poeple, washing off the dust or madness when it's all over but still feeling the pain or sense of rejection afterwards. "Love is a pavement with spit in your heart: loves a winding road that we walk that can leave us beaten and bruised, "slow diamonds no laughter: perhaps reflecting on how we love someone so much, they sparkle like a diamond in our eyes but they never come around and feel the way you do and its plain sad. "Summoned to live up to the speculation din" We're supposed to try and understand all the madness and noise (din?) brought on by ourselves and others. Without love and in a world of hate we're all "headed to the atmosphere", away from ourself and others, having to fend for ourselves. Who knows though. Jay's deep, that's just my interpretation.
It's also SUMMONED to live up to the speculation din not SUPPOSED. |

Son Volt – Bandages and Scars Lyrics

This is by far the best song Jay has written. It seems to be a personal reflection for him but "Blame it on the system, those who came before" leads me to think it has political undertones. "Can't taste holy water, can't find it in the well" - reflecting possibly on how we are searching to be content in this life. Trying to make peace with our problems can sometimes leave us more hurt (piecemeal solutions will only leave scars) and we're stuck in the same place - "a city of artificial stars" a place where it's tough to find truth and happiness with ourselves and those around us.
Powerful great song - awesome live in concert. |
