Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Stanlow Lyrics 14 years ago
Actually, I'm pretty sure the word Stanlow itself does refer to the refinery as it's situated close to where the band come from (and it's visible from miles around so it's unlikely to be a coincidence). No idea what the rest of the song's about, though. I once heard it described as 'a simple love song', or words to that effect, but I always thought there must be more to it than that. I agree that the lack of information is strange. Probably one of my favourite OMD songs, though.

R.E.M. – Man On The Moon Lyrics 17 years ago
I always thought that maybe the line 'Then nothing is cool' was meant to be interpreted more like 'it's fine by me if you believe there's nothing up their sleeve'. That seemed to fit better with the rest of the song to me.

Then again, I know next to nothing about either REM or Andy Kaufman, so maybe I'm just trying to make it mean what I want it to mean.

Two questions:
Is it an agit or a legend for the never-believers?
Is it my sleeve or their sleeve? It seems to be printed as 'my' in most places, but I always hear 'their'.

Frank Turner – St. Christopher Is Coming Home Lyrics 17 years ago
For once I'm first to comment on a song! *does little dance* XD

This song seems to have been overlooked a bit on Love, Ire & Song - I guess it's not one of the ones that immediately stands out, and it gets overshadowed by the singles... but I don't know, it just works for me. There are surprisingly few (good) songs about just drifting apart from your friends - no arguments, no real problems, just nothing in common anymore - even though it's something which happens to most people at some point. This song just explains that feeling so well.

"And at the end I'm just a promise to pick up the phone
When I'm in town"
Perfect, perfect, perfect. Best description of anything I've heard in a song in a long time.

Frank Turner – Photosynthesis Lyrics 17 years ago
^^ Took the words right out of my mouth :D

Truth be told I am starting to get a bit tired of this song... but that's because I have been listening to it at least four times a day for the past week. Give it a few days and it'll be blasting out of my bedroom again :) :) :)

Yeah - I never heard that theory before, but I immediately thought of the book when I read the lyrics.

I like the song more though, the book gets too weird at the end.

Thank you so much Folly! I can't believe no-one posted these until now.

You are absolutely right about them being overlooked, I was expecting way more comments than this.

Pink Floyd – Pow R. Toc H. Lyrics 18 years ago
'Whoo whoo!
Doy doy!'
Hahahahaha!

I always thought it stood for Power Torch... I could never figure that out :D

There's another song on Piper where it sounds like they are saying Pow R Toc H at one point - I think it's Flaming, but I can't remember. I'm probablt imagining it anyway.

Pink Floyd – Fearless Lyrics 18 years ago
Damn, I'm vegetarian too. I have something in common with him :(

I love the random football fans at the end. No matter how many Floyd songs I listen to, they will always pull off something to surprise me (Corporal Clegg, anyone?)

David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust Lyrics 18 years ago
^^Oh cool. I got the 'droogie' one but I was confused about what a nazz was. Thanks!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember Bowie once saying that this album didn't really mean much, but Americans always like to read into things, so he'd make an album that looked like it had loads of hidden meanings in it to get popular in America. I'm not sure if it's true, but it worked...
