The Birthday Massacre – Divide Lyrics 2 years ago
Just want to jump in and say that "Divide" references the present, which is the divide between the past and the future referenced through the song.

There's also many references to a "divide" through the song, such as "into the dark and out of the light", "black and green", "joy and despair", "soon and late", "over, under", "the earth and the clouds"

Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out Lyrics 6 years ago
This song is clearly sung from the perspective of a dog to his owner. He wants to go for walkies. "Take me out!"

The Birthday Massacre – Science Lyrics 7 years ago
I get the feeling the song is about someone making mistakes all the time and not learning from them. Ruining all the good things in life by repeatedly screwing them up. The inability to cope with the mistakes the person has made leads him/her to depression over the memories.

The frustration goes on to the point where if it happens once more, the person will end their life. Unless a miracle happens and they finally get it right.

Fascinoma – I'm Walking This Road Because You Stole My Car (Do Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm walking this road
because you stole my car,
I'm singing this song
'cause you have all my CDs.
You want me to believe
in your love
and yeah, I will, when you give back my stuff.
Give back my stuff.

The gerbils are dead,
your books have found a home
under the tree
where I have buried your clothes.
You want me to believe
in your love
and yeah, I will, when you dig up your stuff.
Dig up your stuff.

How am I supposed to learn
what love is in this life-time?

How am I supposed to learn
what love is if you go?

Don't go, Don't go.

I'm walking this road
because you stole my heart,
I'm singing this song
'cause you have all my CDs.
You want me to believe
in your love
and yeah, i do, 'cause I can't love you enough.
Can't love you enough.
Give back my stuff.

You have my love.

Don't go.

This song is about regret at wasting a life with indecision, but resolve in that there is still life ahead.

Birds of Tokyo – The Saddest Thing I Know Lyrics 9 years ago
Yep, agree with drunk. The song is about having absolute disrespect for a loser who wrecked his life with drugs and alcohol. I'd even go as far as saying the very last line is about killing the loser.

"I know what you want. I think this is it" Then the song ends suddenly. What he wants is to be put out of his misery.

Karnivool – Set Fire To The Hive Lyrics 9 years ago
'I'll spit in the mouth of your god
Who whispers in the minds of the children
You've been sold again"

I read this as a HUGE "Fuck You!" to the catholic church over their priestly abuse of children.

The whole song is about the falsehood of politics and religion, and the necessity to reject it all as garbage, getting rid of it as we leave it.

Karnivool – New Day Lyrics 9 years ago
I hear this:
"Sit down, lighten your own
This storm is coming, you should stay home
But I feel warm"

as this:
"Sit down, lighten your load
This storm is coming, you should stay home
But I fear you won't."

Linkin Park – When They Come For Me Lyrics 9 years ago
This is the only decent song off this album, in my opinion. The album should've been more like this right through. It has creative vocals, good rap, a groovy beat and an arabic sound that makes it very haunting.

Also, being one of the only tracks that doesn't have vocoded vocals, it's a nice throwback to old-style Linkin Park. Before Hybrid Theory even.

The Chemist – Don't Look Down Lyrics 9 years ago
Gotta listen to this one live. The drums are just killer loud and clear in the right venue. Props to Elliot for some of the more powerful drums I've heard. Especially at the Rosemount and Amps.

As for lyrics

I hear, in their respective lines:
"If you can tell me how, I'll tell you why and when"
"Blind man with a broken cane knows what he's looking for"
"Don't believe me when I say I'm coming down"

The Chemist – Stars Lyrics 9 years ago
This was really hard to figure out. The lyrics are quite cryptic at times, and Ben has a way of slurring words together as he sings (note: not a criticism!) So feel free to correct anything I might've got wrong.

As for the song. It's probably my least favourite on the EP. But it's clearly one of the more well thought-out pieces, and it's lyrically intensive. The music gets quite intense with so many elements coming together towards the end. For 3:16, the song is short and I think most people wouldn't 'get' everything they could from just a casual listen on the radio.

I recommend listeners loop this one a bit to really appreciate all the little elements in the background. From the extra percussion, to the backing vocals.

Now as for interpretation: I just get the idea of absolute confidence from the lyrics. It doesn't matter if they steal the sun (or spotlight, as I figure metaphorically), 'cause you're just gonna get it back eventually anyway.

The Chemist – Find My Way Home Lyrics 9 years ago
Nice gentle closer for the EP. When Ben hits those highs, my heart flutters with the emotion of it.

I'm not fond of the large silence between the track finish and the Outro starting. But I thought it was a nice way to end the album with a bit of End of July.

Love this song. Ben's voice is so beautiful. Hope it gets plenty of play on Triple J and eventually some commercial radio!

Misheard a couple of things in the Monologue

(I was told) should be "installed"

and "convincing to see" should be "convincing the city"

It's worth pointing out that there is a missing line in the lyrics posted:

The room, it went away,
Nnow we're holding hands.
Just not the way I planned...

Also worth pointing out that pretty much every lyrics site has this section quoted incorrectly. You'd think most of the listener base was retarded based on some of the attempts at jotting down the lyrics.

Anyway. The song is touching and a nice idea. smooth to groove to as well. A true juxtaposition.

Puscifer – Momma Sed Lyrics 11 years ago
Good point, LiveToThink. I forgot about Maynard's mother's passing. The idea that these lyrics are spoken from her death-bed does make the song much deeper and more emotional during a listen.

The more I listen, the more I love this song. I hope they choose to release this as a single, because it's the kind of song that can make people take Puscifer seriously.

The chess video for this song is pretty good.

Puscifer – Momma Sed Lyrics 11 years ago
I think it's a mother's advice to her son about being dumped, rejected or cheated on by a girlfriend. "It's just a broken heart, son. This pain will pass away." The growing pains part just symbolises that it's a transition between being a child and taking it like a man.

The entire album has the tone about dominant women in a man's life.

These guys are so clearly inspired by Tool. This song in particular reminds me of Lateralus. And Ian Kenny sounds a lot like Maynard.

Anyway, this song is very nice. Close to best on the album in my humble opinion. Ian sings the "Now I don't think you like me now" part so very serenely.

Katatonia – Evidence Lyrics 12 years ago
I sort of get the impression it's about childbirth. The bond between a mother and her son at birth.

"Everything depends upon you, If you die I will die too." - If mum dies, child dies.
"I stay too long, something's wrong." The longer the birth process takes, the more risk to the mother.

The whole breathing thing is associated with childbirth too. I might be completely wrong, but that's the impression I got from it.

Fear Factory – Contagion Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's more of a metaphor. It sounds more like the writer is talking about the need for humanity to fight and wage war, and how that need/desire for violence is like a contagion, or a terminal illness.

"We must find the cure before we die"
ie: our violent nature will eventually cause us all to kill each other.

Velvet Acid Christ – Phucking Phreak Lyrics 12 years ago
I like how this song seems to have two different parts that come in and out. There's the heavier synthstrings sections with the lyrics, and the drum/bass part with the movie clips over it. They don't meld together perfectly, but they give a great alternate sound to this piece. Keeps things interesting. VAC show some great creativity.

Velvet Acid Christ – Hypoxia Lyrics 12 years ago
My favourite VAC song of them all, next to Velvet Pill and Pretty Toy.

VAC have descriptions for all their songs on their song. But before I read that I pretty much assumed it was a song about the anxiety and panic one would have being abandoned by their friends and loved-ones in their time of need. Hypoxia being both literal and a metaphor for the lack of breath and symptoms of that abandonment.

Velvet Acid Christ – Slut Lyrics 12 years ago
The beat, the strings and the piano come together well. It\'s a good thing when the worst part of a song is the singing, and that singing is still great.

Just sounds like the theme song for a slut, as you\'d expect. They\'re capable of being your every pleasure and your every pain all in one.

Velvet Acid Christ – Velvet Pill (jagged scar remix) Lyrics 12 years ago
The rant at the end:

Filthy beggars, hypocrites, Christ. All you say is lies, contradicting everything. Trying to keep the sheep from questioning you.
Who are you to judge what I've seen for what you have known?
You know nothing, nothing of what is left.
Minute little insects running around, scattering, gathering fruit for the beasts.
the beasts which I have long since expected as being a false prophecy.
You take a weak man on a stick and you create him into a god
Lies, ????. Throwing those ???? who dared to question you. Throwing them away, leaving them behind, letting them DIE.
We are the tortured souls who appear to you. Confess, CONFESS about how full of shit you really are.
"We are the chosen few, we are the beginning. We are the end..."

Not sure about the third last line, a couple of the parts are drowned out or spoken too softly to understand clearly.

The song is about what drug addiction does, as per VAC's site description for the song.
