The first thoughts I have is it may be about abortion?..he is flying back to be with her after he found out she is preg or is having or had the abortion. Im thinking after the fact. That is why the brother hates him and the mom has been through hell and her body has been through hell. He was pretty upset about it and just wanted to be with her......and maybe he was already upset/depressed because a family member of his is dying... |

haha a1ctsq, thats a good thought, and I like it.....but dont think thats what the songs intention was meant to be (although you can make it whatever you want to for you). I think DYSL hit it on the head with this. This song reminds me of all the unhappy/negaitve people I have to deal with/talk to. they are always so unhappy about something. Each one of us has the ability to change certain aspects in our life if we really wanted to (for the most part). He is basically just pointing that out in this song. Basically the song is saying you have the ability to change and to stop your suffering, you put yourself in this situation but have power to change it!

I know this song is prob not to be taken literally and prob has some metaphoic meaning....but, I thought of two brothers in the midst of a tornado trapped inside a house and the one brother doesnt make it out. Its just funny because this song sounds so upbeat but has the saddest lyrics. I feel like the "lines" part of the song is talking about how two brothers and connected by destiny but now the line is broken because the one brother has "gone beyond". I am also surprised nobody has commented on this song. Such a good song and a good band! |

This song to me speaks of uncertainty, especailly with lifes purpose and where you are heading/where you currently are. The part about prophets makes me think that if even they mess up and are not sinless, then it is ok if we do from time to time.
Silver Lakes is a town/city by Hollywood and is a place with lots of modern architecture and where many indie bands are from and go. A "hip" place. Has a "bohemian" vibe.

Great song. Suprised at no comments. Anyway, song about breaking up and being sad and alone and finding yourself, but at the same time being ok with it.
Cold flame in my brain, but it's okay cuz I kow its the best for me: I think this is about liking someone alot but knowing they dont like you but being ok with it because you are ok with being alone and can find yourself while being alone.

I feel like this song has a very pessimistic tone/element to it. But dont get me wrong, I love it and all music MM makes. Sounds like Brock thinks everyone is always pointing the finger at him and judging him. No matter how much good he tries to do always the same unsatisfying results (show up ealry just to wait in line). Noone will just let him be a, they will always be criticizing. This song seems to have a real "zen-like" quality about it. Reminds me of a book I just read by author Eckhart Tolle about Ego and Perceptions. It is called A New Earth>a good read, very mind opening. It is about getting past negative thoughts and staying positive and open....being free from the "pain body". Anyways it seems like 311 has always been extremly open-minded and this seems to be reflected in numerous songs......like the song "Its Alright" that just came out as well. All the songs I have heard so far off Uplifter sound really good....maybe that is why 311 is my favorite band. ;) |

It basically is saying get so high that you would over dose>then get even higher than that. It also doesnt make sense because you cant overdose on weed (in the practical sense).....unless they are doing stuff other than drinking and smoking.....

The other hard to hear part may go "flee, plea, press against my lips" like he was trying to go and then trying to beg them to let him go and they press a finger across his lips or something to quiet him. I like the connections made with the environment. I also love how "Dang son" connected it to The Giving Tree. Very interesting. However I think the fact the MGMT named the song "Kids" means this song has more to do with just being young and carefree and then growing old. And the lifecycles like CaitySheaBell said. Maybe greed comes into play too, thats why the line "take only what you need from it" and yes that part totally reminds me of the giving tree. Seems like in this song the kid maybe has kids of hi/her own and then grows old and just has faint memories. And yes it would be cool if the artists would comment about their own songs on this website. Then we wouldnt have to guess> ;) |
