I know that, for me, driving (especially getting lost on old country roads) is the best therapy there is.
And the fact that he's so heartbroken over her, but she doesn't even care... Oh, god!

This song is just about youthful idealism, and a false sense of worth. It's basically the antithesis to all the pathetic self-esteem and acheivement kind of posters that are always in middle school classrooms. Like that crap "Shoot for the moon...Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars".
You can't make a difference, no matter how hard you try.
