Jill Scott – A Long Walk Lyrics 16 years ago
What can you say? Ms. Scott is elegance supreme in this tune. She pays homage to the roots of feel-good, smooth R&B on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The video that she made was for this song was absolutely spot on. I hear this tune, I think of Summer Madness (Kool & the Gang) and Happy Feelings (F. Maze) all in one. Reminds of the good times of being totally into somebody and just being happy in their company talking shit.

Liz Phair – What Makes You Happy Lyrics 16 years ago
I think her mother won't say anything because she knows the women in question has been down that road many times and each time it ended the same way. Probably at some point mom made the prediction that the relationship would end and of course it did. These predictions of doom and the fulfillment of them probably caused great bitterness so mom now just keeps her mouth shut and wishes the girl all the best.

Mazzy Star – Disappear Lyrics 16 years ago
I have no clue but the song is the most haunting and dreamy in her collection. Wind chimes, guitar rifts that echo of country legends of the past, meloncoly voice - what a trip. Like most of her songs, it makes one reflective but I could imagine listening to this particular song somewhere in the midwest in the great outdoors. being a man, i'm not good at digging into the deeper aspects of the lyrics, I just take them as literal. I guess I'm just a cave man in the thorny cave referenced in her second verse.

The Smiths – Reel Around the Fountain Lyrics 16 years ago
This song has special meaning to me. Back in the 80s when I was in college, I met a girl. I always thought she was all that but didn't have the balls to talk to her. Then, we met but still, I was totally introverted. She asked me to help her in math and I went to her dorm room. We were doing math and she threw on this tune and damn if I couldn't focus on my main purpose of being there but the lyrics hit me in the face like slap from ol' mom. anyway, we hooked up and that song led me down the path of being a Smiths fan.

Liz Phair – Johnny Sunshine Lyrics 16 years ago
It obviously has nothing to do with material loss as the result of a break up so Liz must be referring to the spiritual loss? As we know in most cases, the wife typically gets the lion's share of the loot in divorce settlements. The song more reminds of a scenarior of two folks living together (ie common law marriage) and the ol man decides to hop in a big ol yellow taxi cab and go out for the permanent milk run.

The Knack – Good Girls Don't Lyrics 16 years ago
Song nails it. I remember thinking of any reason to call a girl I had a crush on and man if I didn't use the 'teach X is an idiot' excuse as reason for calling her. Then, she says it: I'm alone and the folks won't be coming home 'till late. I sure did cover some miles on my cheese 10 speed bike back in the day.

Mazzy Star – Into Dust Lyrics 17 years ago
I remember watching a movie late on Showtime w/ Angelina Jolie called 'Foxfire'. This movie came out long before she morphed into the action star super goddess she is now. Anyway, they play this song in the movie that has forever molded it in my head. It's an awesome scene and I wouldn't do it just by attempting to describe it but the song fits the scene and vibe of the movie to tee.
