The Jesus and Mary Chain – Something's Wrong Lyrics 14 years ago
In the version I have, there's an extra line at the end, it goes:

Cracked up years behind me
Cracked up years ahead are all I see
Are all I see
In front of me

-but anyways, this has got to be my favorite part of the song.

Though I've next to no idea what the song is about, I've always found it to be distinctively haunting.

Townes Van Zandt – Loretta Lyrics 14 years ago
I've always thought that Loretta is a prostitute that the singer is in love with, or maybe he just thoroughly enjoys her company. But several lines seem to reinforce that idea; how she's a barroom girl, and she loves like the singer wants her to. She always seems to want to have fun, and she wants the singer to have fun too (which seems uncommon in conventional relationships). And of course, how Loretta doesn't care when the singer leaves, so long as there are other customers to take his place.

Mazzy Star – Be My Angel Lyrics 14 years ago
I do love the song. I think it's about man's relationship with god. And, perhaps, it criticizes those whose faith is gain based, or those who keep their faith out of fear or simply tradition or habit. Though, I do think either the last two verses should be cut, or maybe just the second to last verse should be cut (the one starting with "just be my angel"), the song seems to suffer from unnecessary ending lyrics.

The Rolling Stones – Dead Flowers Lyrics 14 years ago
I have read all the entries on here for the song. And while many of them seem reasonable, here’s my fairly different interpretation of the song:

When I first heard “Dead Flowers”, I thought of two brothers who have become estranged because of choosing different ways to live out the rest of their adult lives.

That is, one brother has become a bit of a blacksheep who more or less does what he wants, and the other has become a material driven, corporate worker or something similar to that. Of course there are the obvious references throughout the song about one of the characters being wealthy and successful, and the other . . . not so much.

I think of the “dead flowers” theme (and title I guess) as a reference to the success driven brother sending the other entirely insincere greetings/salutations/congratulations, and is compelled to do so just because he feels it’s expected of him. Whereas the blacksheep knows he doesn’t want to have any connection with his brother, so he won’t waste his time trying to keep up the illusion of one, but will show some amount of respect when it’s due; such as his brother’s death (with living roses of course).

Now, I don’t know what a “rose pink Cadillac” means to Mick or Keith, but my mother sells Mary Kay cosmetics, and once an employee of that company reaches a certain level of success; they are given a pink Cadillac. For a while, it seemed to be the ultimate goal of anyone starting in the company. So when I hear the lyric, I think that the success driven brother is happy because he’s made it in the corporate world, and the other is just doing what he wants to do, and if you were to know both of them independently, you’d probably never guess that they were ever related.

Of course, this is just one person’s opinion and it probably came to me because this situation is happening to my brother and me. He would be the corporate ladder climber, and I’m a bit of a bum that does whatever he wants to do. And well, we’re certainly not estranged yet, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if we were by my mid-twenties or so. So that’s where this interpretation comes from.

Pixies – Debaser Lyrics 14 years ago
Haha, when I heard this as a kid I always thought the line: "I'm un chien Andalusia!" was really "I'm a shake and a lose ya!" - classically wrong.
