Altered Images – Leave Me Alone Lyrics 13 years ago
Pretty self-explanatory, I think. Infatuation, Rejection, and ultimately Bitterness.

Voltaire – The Chosen Lyrics 13 years ago
According to Projekt:darkwave (http://www.projekt.com/projekt/product.asp?sku=PRO00083) - "Voltaire receives revelation about a woman he's involved with, yet never met. 'It's nothing personal' he states 'I hope you understand why I'm forced to take your life. If I'm schizophrenic, then I am too.' This reviewer's weary ears welcome such double-edged commentary. Voltaire seeks escape from this horrid person who has sickened him and shaken his faith. A stalker's anthemic tale, he's talking to lampshades here, and his mind snaps each time he thinks of his obsession's failure (in his eyes). You almost feel sorry for him here and yet you hope he succeeds. 'It's not easy being the chosen'. No, I would think that it isn't."

This explanation seems the most simple of those that I've heard, personally. And the review, having been placed on a fairly established site, is one for which I would like to think that they've done adequate research.

Isn't this a song he did with The Glove and not The Cure?

The Cure – The Only One Lyrics 15 years ago
Robert will be turning 50 this year, which means he is months away from being officially declared an OOOLD GUY.
And EVERYBODY knows it's gross for those Dirty, Old Men to sing about their sex lives. So poor Robert has to get it all out before these lyrics become SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE. :X

The Cure – The Perfect Boy Lyrics 15 years ago
I was thinking maybe similar to Clemm... Like how we girls do get a little over excited and use exaggerating words like "Perfect".
So like, the girl in this song believes they are 100% made for each other, but the boy fears there may be someone better for her out there and he might not really be "The One".

The Cure – Your God Is Fear Lyrics 15 years ago
Smith has always been rather pessimistic about religion. His was a rather disillusioned generation, which I think is interesting considering how spiritual he seems in contrast to he strongly nonreligious views. Maybe 'spiritual' isn't the right word. But he does tend to address several deeper/poetic issues than many other artists do.

The Cure – Labyrinth Lyrics 15 years ago
I know that they aren't related, but Labyrinth always reminds me of the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman, what with the themes of feeling like things have been replaced.

The Cure – Open Lyrics 15 years ago
Smith is admittedly an alcoholic. From time to time he self-justifies by saying that several of his heroes were heavy drinkers also, but one can tell through things like this song that it lays down a pretty heavy burden upon him. In an interview he recalled recording a casual interview he conducted with another big name rock star (sorry, can't recall just who right now... :/) while pretty heavy on the sauce, and that going back to listen to it he was rather embarrassed by how much of a jackass he was acting like. :( I think this song reflects a lot of that similar shame.

I like Good News's take. Goes along well with his nihilist perspective.

The Cure – Freakshow Lyrics 16 years ago
Jeez, you're an asshole. How can you say that about anything by them. Everything they do is gold, and yeah, this isn't the BEST SONG EVER by Smith but it's still really fun.
And no song deserves a 'criticism' as ignorant as "it's shit."

The Cure – The Dragon Hunters Song Lyrics 16 years ago
The instrumentals are the same but the melody of the lyrics are completely different. I really like this song actually. Both songs are great.

Lily Allen – Everything's Just Wonderful Lyrics 17 years ago
What are you talking about? None of them are judging anything. They were discussing, but not judging. You appear to me a very bitter person and I could suggest that you should go out and get help.

And as far as being 'Just fine', I think she's swaying on both sides. Like, she gets frustrated when there are things she just can't control, but other times -even though she has problems on the side- at the moment she's able to do whatever and be completely worry free about it at the moment. Sorry, run-on sentence. Then later on it comes and bites her in the butt, and she feels down again.

Powderfinger – Thilloilogy Lyrics 17 years ago
This song deals with unfullfilled and forgotten dreams.
The lines: "(I've got to keep up with all the others)" and "If you wait I'm gonna drive it home
(Carry all of this away from here)"
suggest to me that Fanning is troubled by desires he has that have negative influences... such as how the media could make a girl want to lose weight or a man act hyper-masculine- and that he wants to break away from that. He wants to alter other people's desires as well :" I'm hosing down your shooting star"
This causes hopelessness because now with out dreams or aspirations there is no hope, but he wants to reassure that you already have everything you could ever want, though we might think we want to live in an 'ideal', larger than life world.
This is because our true aspirations are blocked out by fake wishes : "The shooting star is hardly seen
Outshined by every other beam"
Finally, when we get everything we thought we wanted, we realize how unhappy where we are, in a 'Woe to he who gets what he desires' sense. At the end, Fanning shows strong references to suicide by jumping of a building. The lines "And you'd sleep through heaven
Just to get to hell" showing that there was more happiness when we didn't have all the things that we wanted.
I'm pretty sure Fanning was refering to more specific things, though I can't see exactly what they were. Anyway, that was my interpretation.
