i don't think it's a song about a gay man. when i was younger i also had troubles to do the right things at the right time with a girl. when you are shy or have no experiences with girls you have no idea what to do next and you have no clue about her signals and signs. after a while the girl gets insecure because you can't respond - she thinks that you have no interest. and finally you will see her in arms of another guy... |

when i realized the meaning of this song i've said to myself that i won't listen to it anymore until i can manage to improve my life. after a few years without this song - it's one of my favourite of them - my life changed that much that i thought it's time to play "rubber ring"... but i'm still listening to the smiths. i can't forget this songs and i still love them... |

i think this song is about shyness. "people who are weaker/uglier than you and i - they take what they need, and leave" means dumb and not really beautiful guys can get any girl they want - you just need enough self esteem. that's what a smart and maybe better looking shy guy is lacking... |
