Deacon Blue – I'll Never Fall In Love Again Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is immense. It's the way all of us have felt, you fall in love, get hurt, wonder why you did it in the first place and swear you'll never do it again. But what I love is the way it isn't so much bitter as factual and genuine, you sympathise with him and when it says "So for at least until tomorrow I'll never fall in love again" I just smile because I know I've said exactly the same thing, there isn't a person who hasn't.

Meat Loaf – Lost Boys And Golden Girls Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about how in modern life there's different classes of people and how we'll all do different things with our lives, but that isn't what matters. What matters is what we achieve, and the ultimate achievement is to be happy. Love brings happiness, but love must be sought quickly as we will never get the moments we waste waiting around for love to find us, back.
Amazing song.

Marillion – Lavender Lyrics 13 years ago
On the version, which is off the Misplaed Childhood album. I have it then goes on to say:

Lavender dreams, dilly dilly, lavender's true,
When you miss me, dilly dilly, I will miss you.
A penny for your thoughts my dear, A penny for your thoughts my dear,
I.O.U. for your love, I.O.U. for your love.
For your love, for your love, for your love.

Oh I'm gonna give it back to you.
I'm gonna give it back to you.
Gonna finally give it back to you [not sure that's right]
For your love, for your love, for your love.

I'm always walking in the park,
Always dreaming of a spark, from you.

But yeah, it's an amazing song, obviously about love. The reference to the children's song makes it seem so innocent and pure. It's got such an obvious meaning but never fails to make me think.

Phil Collins – I Wish It Would Rain Down Lyrics 13 years ago
crow_heart I am also a 16 year old girl who'll admit it, sorry.
This song reminds me of when I was little and we'd be driving about and it was playing and we'd all sing along. You know, the happy times in life, when nothing mattered.
Now, if I go for a cycle, or even a drive, I'll sing it. To me it's about escaping all the troubles you have, and just being free for 5mins 25secs, and wishing that it could last forever. Like the feeling you get when it's a really hot, humid day and there's a brief downpour. It feels so good and you wish it would just stay raining.
But hey, that's just me.

Feeder – Just The Way I'm Feeling Lyrics 13 years ago
My thoughts are this:

I agree it's about the drummer's suicide, though I don't think it was about his marital problems. I think it's more about what the singer felt after he had died.

The love mentioned, being more like brotherly love than actual love. The singer knows that what they shared was precious and should have lasted so much longer than it did, he could see the drummer getting depressed, and began feeling it too.

He's torn in two because he feels bad for not being able to help the drummer, but he also slightly resents the fact that he now has to feel this pain. He looks for something to escape to, but you can't run from your emotions.

He feels so low, that it's almost undescribable, and it had always been the drummer who'd helped him out of bad situations, and he's waiting for his help again, though he knows it wont come. Which makes matters worse.

He knows that, in time, the pain will heal, but it doesn't help the way he feels now.

He didn't agree with what the drummer did, but he knows it was what he wanted. Again, he's torn between missing him and resenting him, and it's killing him, nothing he does can stop him thinking about the situation. He can't get away from it.

At the end of the day, his pain will heal, and he'll feel differently about the drummer's death. But he will always see the man himself in the same light because of what they shared.

So in general just about how he hates what he's going though, but it doesn't change the fact that he will always be grateful to have known this man.

Anyone agree?

Kelly Clarkson – Because of You Lyrics 13 years ago
For me this is about when my dad died, my mum started trying to tell me how to react and basically control my life so that I felt what she going through. All I needed from her was support, and all she did was take it out on me how much she hurt. As if I'd stolen her husband. She never stopped and thought about how I was coping, she expected me to hold up my life and hers. Yes, I found it easy to get through it, I managed to carry on and get good grades, I was determined to not crack like she had, as I had the weight of the family on me. There isn't a night that I don't think about him, and anytime I get upset about it she acts as if everything's ok. Now I blame her for not allowing me to get over it in my way and therefore wont let anyone too close in case they try to control me too. She didn't protect me the way she hoped she would, it made life harder, but she did her best, and I suppose that's all that matters.

Oasis – Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics 13 years ago
Apaprently, when asked what exactly the lyrics meant, they had to admit that they had no idea what it was about, that it just fitted, or something. I don't know if that's true, I believe it as it means that no one is wrong about it, if you take it to mean something then that's ok. You can make it all about you, and you'll never be wrong.

Soul Asylum – Homesick Lyrics 13 years ago
No comments?!
This song is like my life.
It's about chasing things you'll never have, because you need a small amount of comfort. About how the world is such an evil place and no one realises the truth about it, and how we don't belong here because we could have made something so much better. Everyone's rushing about and they don't stop and focus on what's going wrong in their surroundings. About longing for a feeling, a place of security because you've never felt/had it. And yes, the song seems like it's really selfish and confrontational, but it's because we don't realise what we'd lose if we hadn't sacrificed all the things that are being described as missing (ie the perfect world). It's almost sarcastic, "Sorry if I'm being selfish, but what I truely wanted was thrown away for things that I probably didn't need and definately didn't appreciate".
I love it so much. I grew up singing the album, now I understand what it means, and I've lived my life by it.

Gratitude – Until When (Always Waiting) Lyrics 13 years ago
Can't believe the lack of comments, this song is beautiful. Maybe not one of the best, but brilliant all the same. Anyway...
I think it's about a broken relationship, he feels lost without having the person in his life, but he doesn't want to idolise them and make them out to be something they're not, even though it seems like the most appropriate way of discribing what they meant to him. He would wait forever to have them back, because he can see what a change they made in his life. However he does doubt himself sometimes, and questions whether they really did change him, or whether it was going to happen anyway, but in the end he always decides to wait around for them, till they're ready.

Gratitude – Begin Again Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about someone who tries too hard for whatever it is they want, and they see it drift away from them but there's nothing they can do. Thoguh it kills them, they understand that maybe it was just never meant to happen like that, so they try and try again, and one day maybe they'll achieve their dream. Maybe.

Gratitude – Greatest Wonder Lyrics 13 years ago
It is about love, but not teenage love. It's about the sort of love where you would die for the other person, and do anything possible to make them happy for as long as possible. I always thought it was about a relationship/marriage where one of them has a terminal illness and is explaining to their partner that you can't save me, but you can love me, make me happy and make what I have left, the best time of my life.

Hell Is For Heroes – Slow Song Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree that it's more likely to be about a friendship than a relationship. Have you ever had that one friend who's always there and who can always make you smile? This song reminds me of a friend I have who's just like that, he's truely fantastic (almost perfect).
(Assuming Justin wrote it)
It's like Justin's saying that dispite their difference in curcumstances him and his friend can still share everything that bothers them, and they can help each other through it.

Though I think that Justin feels he broke up the friendship (presumably by breaking his friend's trust) however he was only trying to help and didn't realise it would go so wrong.

At the end of the day he accepts that things will never be the same, but he still offers to be there for his friend, and whilst the memories of how they were make him happy, the realisation of what they have become really hurts him and reminds him to not make that mistake again.

I'm hoping my friendship wont go the way it appears Justin's did, but if it does, then I hope that we can always remember what we had, as this song suggests Justin does.

I love this song, I love this band.

Funeral for a Friend – Roses for the Dead Lyrics 13 years ago
The most recent time I saw FFAF, Matt stood up and said about how they were going to play a song that meant a lot to him, I knew right away it was this song. He went on to talk about loss and how we all deal with things differently, etc, and I was just standing there going "I've been there too mate" and when they started singing you could tell that so many people in there had completely related to everything he'd said, and everything that this song is about. There wasn't a person in there who wasn't screaming along with them. It's odd to think that it meant something completely different to every kid in there, but it did mean somethng to every kid in there, if that makes sense?
A truely magical song, makes me cry every time.

Biffy Clyro – Scary Mary Lyrics 13 years ago
I guess it's about a guy who tried to hold onto a relationship and in doing so got hurt, badly.
"What must I have become to deserve all the shit that you gave me?"

The relationship ended and it tore him apart
"it's been two months since you taught me not to trust"
He doesn't blame her, because he knew that this would happen
"but you kept your promise, you made patterns in my face, you painted pictures with my tears, and you did it again, I knew that you would"

She helped him learn about the world, and give him a reason to carry on with his life, even though she isn't in it anymore.
"Thank you for showing me there's more"

She did hurt him, but there's no point in trying again, it will just happen again, so it's time for them both to just move on.
"It's time to let go"

Though it's rather self explanitory.

Biffy Clyro – Do You Remember What You Came For? Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about how our lives are so wrapped up with things that don't matter, that we forget what should matter in out lives. We ask all these pointless questions that we'll never need to know the answers to, but never find out about the important things in life.
I could be wrong though...

Rise Against – The Approaching Curve Lyrics 13 years ago
Song in general...
I think this is more about the guy leaving than just a straight break up. Which makes it worse. He's walking away from her, though he still cares, it's something he has to do, start again somewhere new. But she doesn't understand.

1st verse...
Sets the scene of just an ordinary night drive in winter, the coldness suggests an awkward atmosphere in the car. They'd been driving in this awkwardness for a long time, it's almost sunrise, she hadn't turned the wheel for the past 20 mins and that was just on that road. They hadn't talked, probably not because there's nothing to say, but because there's so much to say, they don't know where to begin, and don't want to start an argument.

Chorus...
They used to be happy together, people only saw the smiles, but there was more to their relationship than being happy together. It isn't the crash that kills them, it's the sadness/realisation of what is happening that resulted in their death. They were happy together, but now they're joint sadness has killed them.

2nd verse...
She wants answers. Though she knows she doesn't want them, as it will hurt. I think she's asking why he's making things awkward. Which is why he can respond with “I'm not doing anything” because he isn't and that's the problem. He needs to explain. He was startled by her talking, it changed the atmosphere. He knows that he is making the drive difficult, he knows it's his fault so he tries to make excuses “This is what's best for me, for you, for us” though he knows it's not true. He knows he's the only person who will benefit from this. She cries because she thinks he doesn't understand what this is doing to her. She's trying to search for something to say, some way for him to understand what she's going through. But she can't, so she just cries. She gets mad, probably at herself, for not being able to explain what she feels, though she blames him as he made her feel like this, and because he doesn't understand. They both get hysterical and tell each other everything, though neither of them can make sense of it, they're just ranting and venting their emotions, without thinking about what actually needs to be said.

3rd Verse...
He isn't ready for this, he didn't want this to happen, he isn't ready to die, there's so much left for both of them, but she wont give either of them the option to see the rest of their lives.

4th verse...
Despite the fact they are now talking, they can't make sense of it, it's just another background noise, like the music. The car gets faster, he gets scared so talks quieter, she's no longer competing to be louder than him, so gets quieter too. The original atmosphere comes back, despite everything being out in the open, they'd achieved nothing except for hurting each other, which is what they knew would happen. She sees the curve, it's another change to the situation. She doesn't want the situation to change, so she carries on going straight and no doubt crashes. She can't live without him, so why should he live sort of a thing.

yes? no?

Funeral for a Friend – I Am The Arsonist Lyrics 13 years ago
It seems to me that it's a song to help someone through a break-up.

"Scars", mental, not physical, Getting hurt by the past relationship. But it's these scars that make us different. It's how we survive that makes us who we are. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Things get destroyed, it's natural, it happens to everything/everyone no matter how strong they are, reassuring her that it's ok to be hurt.

There's no point in hiding from the world, if people see you're happy and moving on, it's a good thing, though people will gossip etc. Safe in your home, nothing can hurt you, but you can't always stay where you are safe. Which is what they've done, but they're still as vulnerable as ever.

He wants her! But he's scared that if he does anything it'll hurt her more, or that it's too soon and she'll push him away. Lump in his throat, cause he can't say what he really wants to.

It'll be better for both of them if they destroy all the past links, what they consider “home” because they're stuck in the past because they feel safe there, but they both need to move on.

When the relationship is strong, it will fall apart, the way relationships always do, but they'll always try, though it's destined to go wrong.

That's what I think each verse of the song's about, but I could be wrong...

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Otherside Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about a break-up. And about how although it seems like it's the end of the world, good can come of it as it can change you as a person, and make you realise your faults. The past keeps coming up and it hurts, but he knows that it is just the past and that it can't affect him anymore. What's done is done sort of an idea. Although he regrets the pain he felt because of his past, he'd never change it because it made him who he is, it made him stronger.
Well that's my opinion.
