Yael Naim – Far Far Lyrics 16 years ago
The depths of one's imagination can be much more captivating than reality. Creating beauty out of the dullness, always hoping there's something more. Giving birth to the beautiful mess inside of you, expressing yourself and turning your dreams into words, quietly.

This is me as well, and so many others. It's spot on; I can't even describe it. What a beautiful song!

The Matches – We Are One Lyrics 16 years ago
I’m definitely hearing the lyrics differently…where does the “we are four” part come in? And also I think it’s “if we’re not the change we want to see,” not “sing.” I don’t blame whoever posted the lyrics, though, cause the album’s not actually out yet. Hah. I think the message is very straightforward: “If we’re not the change we want to see, the change will be me.” Basically telling people to quit being apathetic and to BE the change they want to see in this world. “When we are loud, we are one; when we are one, we are more.” When we come together with a common passion, especially through music, we can be heard. Quite simple really, but that’s what gives this song such a punch. The Matches are wonderful. :]

Chris Garneau – We Don't Try Lyrics 16 years ago
I just listened to his Feast of Fools podcast interview, and apparently this song--this whole album, actually--is partly about his friend who died from a heroin overdose. She had twins. :[

I think about my friend who died,
And how her kids didn't get to say goodbye,
though neither did i,
no neither did i...

"I always wanted to write a song
and say 'come on,'
so come on"

Haha.
This is a great song; it seems like it's pretty much about burning up the past, all your old feelings, all your regret; just starting fresh and feeling free.

And did anyone else catch the throwback to Dog-Eared Page?

"Friends in quotes, they're not calling."

It took me a while to get that one. xD

The Matches – Salty Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
This is one of the most beautifully crafted songs I've heard in a long time. It's so comforting to listen to; the "you belong" line is very affecting in a subtle way. I agree with the other users that it is definitely about hope through music, and to me, ladyfromabove, Salty Eyes is THAT song-- the one that feels like it's being sung especially for me. "Please don't give up, dear walls / Don't let the ceiling fall." Something about it just infuses you with hope.

The Polyphonic Spree – Section 24 (The Fragile Army) Lyrics 16 years ago
I read somewhere that this song is, in Tim DeLaughter's words, an "ode to Bush." Which makes sense, really:

"You swallow the very words you call your own"
"You're lying back now; you've totally found out / We follow the scary words you learned to grow,"
"The ticking, the tocking / The losing, how shocking!"
"We left him on the floor"

...sounds like an ode to Bush to me!

The Apples in Stereo – Skyway Lyrics 17 years ago
I have no idea if I got these lyrics right, but I tried.

Anyway, I like this song...I'm kind of getting the idea that it's about someone who is questioning their life and what they have come to learn over the years. But now that this person is starting to realize that everything they've learned is fake ("Festering dreams are dressed in fakeries"), they're starting to find other people and ideas to listen to, ones that are turning them in the wrong direction and causing them to follow people that are getting them into trouble ("You follow the skyway...") instead of the people who will help them out ("Forty lessons you may hear from the sun, now / You never listened to a single one"). Now, the person who is writing the song is really upset about the way this other person has turned out ("Fist loaded with a furious disdain / Your velocity will be your shame"). He doesn't want to turn out like her/him, but he's starting to find that no matter how hard he tries, he alone can't help this person-- all he can do is turn away ("The best I can do is to turn my back on you").

I'm not sure what the significance of all the "forty"'s is, though.

The Apples in Stereo – Sun Is Out Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is just about enjoying life...basically, when things get too hectic and overwhelming ("when the crowd is dragging you down"), people need to kind of slow down and enjoy life-- the sun is out!

Hm, I think it's "lot," not "light." Maybe I'm just hearing things. But anyway, this song is just so happy. I love it!

So, this song has no meaning whatsoever...it was just one of the only songs with lyrics that hadn't been submitted yet that I could actually figure out. =o
