Iron & Wine – Tree by the River Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It's potty mouthed. I have the booklet. The hell did people think "parted mouth" meant? Bleh. |
Fall Out Boy – Thriller Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I didn't read every comment, but a 45 is a common vinyl record RPM speed. Many records are called 45s. Thriller, by Michael Jackson, is a famous and valuable 45 RPM record. This song makes references to fame and the pressures of it. Michael Jackson's life was plagued by the spotlight. Just throwing that out there. |
Jay-Z – D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"your boys jeans too tight, your colors too bright, your voice too light" I love after this line, in the back Kanye yelling "That's too far nigga!" Hahaha. |
The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love 4 (The Drowned) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm sorry. William is not the Rake. The Queen's Rebuke backs this up. By saying the Rake has removed the temptation from her innocent child and by helping the Rake cross the river. If the Rake is William, why the hell does William need help crossing to save Margaret? And there's defiantly a boat. And I'm still pretty sure it's "around the hull". I don't care what the book/website says. Booklets are wrong all the time. |
Kid Dakota – Downhill Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Reminds me of Smokestack. The beginnings sound similar too. |
John Vanderslice – June July Lyrics | 16 years ago |
For what it's worth, John said he wrote this song for his brother Ray. |
John Vanderslice – Continuation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
If it sounds a little "cliche", it's because it's based off a movie. This is a snip from an interview JV did with BetterPropaganda : "I wrote "Continuation" right after seeing Lars Von Trier's Element of Crime. It's his first feature, and it concerns a detective trying to piece together an unsolved series of murders. A hunted serial killer dies in a car crash, and his specific ways of killing are only known to the detectives on the case. So when more bodies turn up with those telltale signs of the deceased serial killer, the only suspects are other detectives who know the clues." |
John Vanderslice – Trance Manual Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Just a guess, I always thought the "Trance Manual" to be the Qur'an, the "Islamic book of divine guidance". |
John Vanderslice – My Family Tree Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Also, John doesn't have any sisters. Angela in this song is said to be "sister NEAR". It's not really clear who Angela is. |
John Vanderslice – Nikki Oh Nikki Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Nikki Oh Nikki was originally written by John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats. The original is much longer. Essentially this song is saying "you know that one guy you hate for whatever reason, well someday he'll die. Happy now? And that girl you dont like for whatever reason? Yeah, she'll die eventually too. So now you can let it go. And oh yeah, you're going to die too." |
John Vanderslice – Heated Pool And Bar Lyrics | 16 years ago |
John once explained the title of this song on his message board : It comes from "Thrasher," a song on Rust Never Sleeps, a very underrated Neil Young album. Here's the text... "Where the vulture glides descending On an asphalt highway bending Thru libraries and museums, galaxies and stars Down the windy halls of friendship To the rose clipped by the bullwhip The motel of lost companions Waits with heated pool and bar." |
John Vanderslice – My Family Tree Lyrics | 16 years ago |
John's mom is alive and he loves her. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9apxTf3EJ4 |
John Vanderslice – Kookaburra Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Every site has the line listed as "and the star was invisible". Is this confirmed? Is it in the book? Because listening, and watching his lips in videos, it really sounds and looks like "the Bundestag was invisible". I don't know what German parliment has to do with anything but that's really what it sounds like. I actually considered emailing John just to ask what he says there... |
The Smashing Pumpkins – 1979 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song, like much of the album, to me, emphasizes to just live your life. Be happy, be sad, be angry, be in love. Cherish what you have. In other words, the "urgency of NOW". |
Blackfield – Once Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The whole thing sound like sex to me. |
