Why? – Into the Shadows of My Embrace Lyrics 10 years ago
I believe the title comes from Vladimir Nabakov's Lolita. "She freed herself from the shadows of my embrace-- doing this not consciously, not violently, not with any personal distaste, but with the neutral plaintive murmur of a child demanding its natural rest."

i love when he writes with a strict rhyme scheme like this. it brings up flashes of a sweater, poorly knit.

Fall Out Boy – Tiffany Blews Lyrics 15 years ago
the title is a play on the words "blue" and "blew", which i figured was obvious. tiffany blew some dude and he's got the blues.

Thrice – Broken Lungs Lyrics 16 years ago
There are so many really ignorant comments on here. I'd really relish a chance to sit down and chat with anybody who said they "lost respect" for Thrice after this song.

Why in the world does having the courage and intelligence to question our government warrant a loss of respect?

It's sickening, the things people say. Crooked politicians and megalomaniacs in control can't be blamed entirely for the eventual destruction of the Bill of Rights. As much blame rests on those who don't have the courage to tell them to stop.

"I'm a human being, Goddammit. My life has value."

I'm pretty sure Ted wrote this song. Usually the songs where he sings lead are the songs he penned himself.

Dustin Kensrue – Blood & Wine Lyrics 16 years ago
I want to dip into this again. I only skimmed the rest of the comments, but I saw people saying they didn't see any connection to Christ in this song? Wine is used in the Eucharist, in which it represents the blood of Christ. He (the speaker) has delved into darker and darker worlds, committing increasingly condemnable sins, and thus he feels a distance from god, ultimately turning his back on god completely and refusing the blood of Christ in favor of temptations of the flesh.

That's what the song means.

mewithoutYou – C-Minor Lyrics 16 years ago
Knife2agunfight, I agree with almost everything you've said. But I didn't think the "we're not half as bad as god is good" was the devil talking. I took that as him looking at what seemed like a really bad situation (symbolized as smoke), and realizing that no matter how bad it got, it'd never be half as bad as God is good.

Modest Mouse – The Good Times Are Killing Me Lyrics 16 years ago
"Also this happens to be one of (if not the) best Modest Mouse albums to date. Don't believe me, look at the critics (not just pitchforkmedia), it is their most heralded work. If that's not enough look at the total sales, over 1,500,00! This is truely a great album. Though I will admit that the new album "We Were Dead..." is not up to my standards of MM but still pretty good."'

Don't ever suggest that there is a correlation between album sales and album quality. Ever.

But, while I agree that Good News is a good album, I wouldn't call it their best. The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon and Antarctica are my personal favourites.

Dustin Kensrue – Blood & Wine Lyrics 16 years ago
"This is one of my favorites from the new album, truy amazing both lyrically and musically. A bluesy folk song about how someone's life is changing as they have found God. The theme is perfect, Now that I've tasted Blood this wine is too thin, meaning once he has found God (blood - communion, last supper) sins and other pleasures from life don't mean anything to them anymore and all they want is to serve God. "

This was one of the worst attempts to analyze lyrics I've seen on this site. It's so obviously far from what the song is about, and yet people are agreeing with it. Wow. Laidbackdude nailed it right on the head, though.

Forgive Durden – Ear To Ear Lyrics 16 years ago
The title to this song is definitely a reference to Fight Club. (The novel, not the film, mind you.) The narrator has a large gash in his cheek for most of the novel, and at the story's climax, he shoots a hole in the other side. This leaves him literally smiling from ear to ear.

This song seems to be analyzing the narrator's lifestyle early in the novel (before meeting Tyler Durden).

I reccomend that any fan of Forgive Durden reads Fight Club.

Big Japan – The Rise and Fall of Bill Lyrics 17 years ago
A few corrections.

I’ll take what I can get,
I’m not that greedy yet.
I know it’s lonely at the top,
But you can afford it.

I’ll take what I can get,
I’m not that greedy yet.
I know it’s lonely at the top,
But you can afford it.

When I arrive,
We'll drink champagne until sunrise.
When we’re drunk
We don't care who comes to find us.

We tell them,
"Telling jokes takes out the fun."
We’ll be laughing when the punch line comes.

Let them drown in their own tears
‘Cause they deserve it.
And the fact that what they love is what killed them,
it’s ironic.

Into the top of the highest skyscraper,
Climb at once.
Because that’s where they spire,
It’s where they should jump from.

And this song reminds me of a movie I saw a few years ago. I can't recall the title, though.

Animal Collective – Grass Lyrics 17 years ago
i'm not sure if this has been mentioned, cause there's no way i'm reading through those long interpretations. but i believe when he says "it's like the apple eating people that we once were aren't there", he's referring to the apple that eve ate off the tree of knowledge in the bible. to me, that means he believes we've stopped seaking knowledge. --doesn't really fit the song, but that's just how that line comes across to me.
