The New Pornographers – Silent Systems Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love this song. No idea what it means though. *new lords but no new laws |
The New Pornographers – Myriad Harbour Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You're not stupid, my mom thought it was a woman too. He really does sound like one. |
The New Pornographers – Adventures in Solitude Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sounds like a near-death experience, like a person fighting cancer (circling the edge of the never-ending) and surviving (we thought we lost you...welcome back). |
The New Pornographers – Failsafe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm hearing bolt, too. It changes the meaning of the song entirely. It sounds like it's about two partners in crime (or perhaps the two lovers in Challengers eloping), facing the obstacles (scolding the hills ahead), changing their identity (singing my checks), etc. One person, the speaker, gives up (lost half the team) and finds the other still going, scolding the hills alone, and probably feels guilty for leaving. Weird interpretation, I know, but the song is pretty weird, too. |
The New Pornographers – Myriad Harbour Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Dan Bejar. Yes, he does sound pretty feminine in this song. (but Kathryn?!) (from their website) "In this song, Dan urges me to 'look up for once and see just how the sun sets in the sky.' Two songs later, I sing that 'there is something unguided in the sky tonight.' Coincidence?" So he's talking to Carl in the second verse, could he be talking to John (Collins) in the third? Just a thought. |
Immaculate Machine – C'mon Sea Legs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I LOVE this song! The meaning is pretty self-explanitory, but it makes me feel good that I can understand the lyrics for a change. And an inch of snow, [you're made alive?]. You're buried alive? [You terrorize away?] or it'll never get better. Tear your eyes away? I'm hearing "changing of the tides" but I'm probably wrong on this one. It'd be a bit of a syllable stretch if it is. |
The New Pornographers – All the Old Showstoppers Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just something to note, Neko Case has a song called John Saw That Number that she wrote (I think?) by adding her own music to lyrics of a traditional song. I don't know where it comes from but I think you're right about the song being about using statistics to prove anything. |
The New Pornographers – All for Swinging You Around Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Coming right after Chump Change (which IMO is about being screwed over by the music business, typical Bejar), it would be really funny if it this song was about being rich and famous in the music industry. |
Neko Case – At Last Lyrics | 17 years ago |
That line makes me think of Deep Red Bells. bells=death, beckoning. |
The New Pornographers – The End of Medicine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
We're facing the end of medicine because no one calls it "medicine" anymore, they call it "medication". Ever noticed that? Seriously, though, this song has amazing lyrics. I can actually understand them for once, and they really flow with the song. As for the meaning, I agree with pretty much everything the first poster said. |
