i love Paul McCartney I loved all the Beatles equally, but as a post-beatle, i think maybe he is my favourite, although John Lennon's stuff was beautiful to say the least, sometimes i just want something to bounce around to which is meaningful at the same time. That's not to say I don't love Ringo and George's later stuff...but you know...maybe it's also cos I kind of fancy beatlepaul. anyway, paul mccartney's brilliant, john lennon's brilliant, george harrison is brilliant, ringo starr is brilliant. and i will shoot anyone who disagrees. |

I hate this song so much. i just came on here to express my views about it as everyone in the world likes it and nobody'll find it here. it's just such a SHIT song, it overuseses sexual innuendo so much it makes me sick. there is no craftsmanship gone into it at all. ihatehatehatehatehate it. ARHHHHHHHH I HATE IT! It's so shit and all the little 'scene kidzz' [99.8% of which aren't even scene] love it, cos they can just stand there swaying slightly from side to side, head down, muttering the words, and pass it off as dancing, and be like 'oh i am such a hardcore rebel', put it as their myspace profile song, post many bulletins about how cool they are, and then turn the sound down when viewing their own profile so their mum doesn't hear it, so they don't get grounded which means they can't go and skank around in town smoking and trying to nick drink off all their 'big mates' and think they look cool. ok so yeah. it was a long rant. WELL DONE! i spose all the scene keets are gonna go die now, or something. it's a cunt's song for cunts who want to look cool in front of their cunt friends. and contrary to popular belief, no i am not 67. i'm actually 14. i just hate shit music...i'll shut up now.. |

again, nobody'll read this. But it's a bloody great song. i think that bowie is alongside Paul McCartney for the 'greatest story-song writers ever'. didn't make much sense. i just take it at face value. it's about an astronaut, goes into space and his circuits blow or whatever, so he's trapped in space. it makes me cry. it's so sad. i love the way bowie goes back to his London accent when he's singing 'can you hear me major tom? can you hear me major tom?', probably cos he's so emotional at that point in the song, and it sounds like 'can yew here me mayjer tom?' god i love bowie. god i love beatles. off to download everything bowie ever did, ever off limewire... sorry david. stealing the bread from your mouth...i don't think you'd mind though. mm. |

I love all beatles stuff to be honest. i just think they're so amazing, there can never be anything better than them. I sometimes prefer Paul's stuff...i'm not sure why...just more...i don't know. his songs tend to be more story-like (Eleanor Rigby, Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite- at least i think that's a paul song, i don't know...) and i like that kind of thing. i think the statement 'Paul was great with help from john' can't really be justified- the two wrote together, neither had particular help from each other, they were both great anyway, there wasn't one that was better than the other, in the whole band i would say really. it's just my opinion that i sometimes like paul's stuff more. |

Nobody'll probably ever see this, cos like...yeah...but i think it's more of a story. with hidden meaningy things. like, some kidzz from the 1970s, about 17 years old or something, at a disco/koolkidz hangout kind of thing [didn't know what time it was the lights were low oh oh] listening to generic, mediocre musicy things[i leaned back on my radio-o-o]. . when suddenly, GASP the starman comes on the radio, and it's like, omg, what's this [that weren't no DJ that were crazy cosmic jive] like they've never heard it before. and he tells them about himself, about how he'd like to meet them but he's too far out [in both senses of the term] . and about how they might think life's crap, with their parents 'on their backs' etcetc but don't despair, don't become a dropout etc, it's all worthwhile. and he's saying, [partly to the adults, parents] let your kids be upset, get things wrong [lose it] let them be happy, have fun [use it], let them just live [boogie]. and the second verse is about how the main kid goes home [maybe bowie's talking about himself here] and rings his friend to tell them, and wow! s/he's heard it too. wow! turn on the TV, manybe we'll get him again. look! i can see him in the sky. maybe he can see us too. but we can't tell the adults, they won't believe us [don't tell your poppa etc]. so it's like the kidz against the straight-laced adults, mmhmm? and about how even though they hate the world they live in, with adults and school and work and perhaps even the government, they have this celestial friend...starman..who can make things seem ok. well that's what i think, anyway. i must admit i do prefer story-songs, which may be why i sometimes prefer paul mccartney's stuff to john lennons. it's all great though. |
