Death Cab for Cutie – Stay Young, Go Dancing Lyrics 13 years ago
I have a theory about this song - in Why You'd Want To Live Here, Ben talks about 'the belly of the beast that is Californ-i-a'.

Maybe it's the same belly of the beast he's talking about here, but something/someone is clearly making it a much better place to be than it was in 2001 for him.

I would imagine Zooey Deschanel would have that effect on anyone... :)

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Fake Fake Eyes Lyrics 13 years ago
Saw Trail of Dead tonight and they played this. Afterwards Jason said 'Sink On South... whatever that means... I think I was high when I wrote it' - been wondering for ages what it might've meant and I'm quite glad to know I don't have to worry so much anymore haha.

Friendly Fires – Photobooth Lyrics 15 years ago
I thought it was 'giving it the nash'... as in 'nashers'... as in teeth. Big cheesy grins :D:D

Love this song, just too funky.

White Lies – E.S.T. Lyrics 15 years ago
Despite having the album, I've not looked at the lyrics book, and I thought it was 'I'll hold you, remember me, I'll hold you...' etc... bit disappointed it's actually 'I hope you', haha.

Still, cracking song.

White Lies – Nothing to Give Lyrics 15 years ago
Finally listened to the album today.

My god this song is good. I'm sorry for the un-analyitcal nature of this post but it just had to be said.

"But as you said goodbye, I almost died"... wow.

I think I'm going to relate to this song more and more as I get older. That'll be a fun day...

Death Cab for Cutie – Little Fury Bugs Lyrics 15 years ago
This song serves as a painful reminder that I'm not particularly happy with either of the houses I live in, whether at 'home' or at university. I just don't feel like the right fit.

Great song, though...

Flight of the Conchords – Albi the Racist Dragon Lyrics 15 years ago
It's literally too funny. I think I will die by asphyxiation from laughing too much at this one day. It'll be a good way to go.

Friendly Fires – Jump In The Pool Lyrics 15 years ago
I may be completely off the mark but I hear it as if saying 'I knew you wanted to jump in the pool' is a euphemism for something more... something someone or two people wanted to do but they didn't... but the moment has since passed.

The song is absolutely beautiful.

I wish I could relate to this song :(

Feeder – Fires Lyrics 15 years ago
I really like that idea, tommyhaych! It sounds a bit like an up-tempo version of Tinseltown too :)

Probably unintentional on Grant's part but I think it's a great theory :D

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Half Of What Lyrics 15 years ago
The chorus works so well. The first three lines make it sound like he wants his missing half back, as it were, but then he realises that maybe he doesn't... because of whatever caused it to go missing in the first place.

To anyone who likes this song... I'd recommend getting hold of the Mistakes & Regrets single, as a re-recorded (and much better) version of this song is a b-side on it.

Nine Black Alps – Unsatisfied Lyrics 15 years ago
Blaize?

Matt, is that you?

I suppose it's unlikely you'll frequent this page 3 years after you originally posted but oh well.

Love this song, and lyrically everyone's hit the nail on the head... unhappy with your own achievements or what you're doing. Wanting more but not sure where it'll come from.

Radiohead – How to Disappear Completely Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is utterly beautiful.

A lot of people seem to have commented that it helps them escape from whatever's going on, but the feeling I get from it is trying to escape but realising you can't... "I'm not here, this isn't happening" is Thom trying to tell himself that's the case, but really he knows it's not.

I don't know if that's how he intended it but that's how I hear it... as such I find it quite moving and almost to the point of it being sad to listen to.

But I'll still always put it on at least three times in a row when I listen to Kid A.

Also, this may have been mentioned, I've not read all the comments - but I seem to recall Thom or one of the others saying in an interview that they were influenced by Sigur Rós while recording this album, particularly 1999's Ágaetis Byrjun... the swirling strings towards the end of this track really remind me of the orchestral cacophony at the end of Vidrar vel til Loftarasa from that album (forgive the lack of accents)... perhaps one of the more obvious influences coming through, though obviously I might be wrong...

Kings of Leon – Ragoo Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it sounds like The Police as well, mainly because the riff bears quite a large similarity to Be My Girl - Sally from Outlandos D'Amour methinks ^_^

Great song either way.

Coldplay – Chinese Sleep Chant Lyrics 16 years ago
"Fall asleep
Fall asleep"

I don't hear the 'ssss' in the second line. I think it's:

"Fall asleep
Follow me
Sleep satisfied
Sleep satisfied"

Whatever it is... amazing song.

Can't believe it's only been 8 days since I heard this album, it's been virtually all I've been listening to, feel like I know it inside out already. Best thing they've put out since Parachutes and by quite a margin too.

The Chemical Brothers – Star Guitar Lyrics 16 years ago
lukebue... I seem to recall reading an interview with the band a while back in which they said it's called Star Guitar just for the sake of the rhyme! Other than that I'm not sure.

Feeder – We Are The People Lyrics 16 years ago
Love the closing verse ('Step it up...' etc)... but I think it might be 'step it up a gear' rather than 'again'.

I'm liking the direction the new Feeder material seems to be taking. Looking forward to the album a lot.

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly – Postcards from Catalunya Lyrics 16 years ago
This song really hits me. Lines like 'I think I love you but I'm better on my own', 'I can't find the hows or whys'... this song is just gorgeous and one of the best on the new album.

New Radicals – I Hope I Didn't Just Give Away The Ending Lyrics 16 years ago
Gregg Alexander is just a brilliant story teller. Not to say this is necessarily fact or fiction, but it's just... engrossing. Not many lyrics can claim to have that quality.

New Radicals – Mother We Just Can't Get Enough Lyrics 16 years ago
I bought this album on tape in 1999 and I'd just listen to this song, rewind it and listen over and over again. And I love it still up to this day. It's just superb.

I like the two sides of the lyrics in it, there's the what-you-see-is-what-you-get version of not being able to get enough of presumably the person who 'tears me inside out whenever you're around', then the more hidden version like Xim said.

New Radicals are horrifically under-rated, and it's such a shame. They were an astounding band, so much better than the majority.

Jeff Buckley – So Real Lyrics 16 years ago
It's an astounding song... I know this isn't a comment on the lyrics, but I love the little time signature changes in the verse, into a sort of waltz feel (though I think it's in 6/8 really).

I recently bought the Live in Chicago DVD. Seems I, and countless others, really missed out on something special by not ever having the chance to see him live.

James Yorkston – Woozy with Cider Lyrics 17 years ago
I thought it was 'feeble evening roar', which makes sense as well, but it's a bit unclear.

A beautiful song, with some very clever lyrics. Particularly keen on "Would the runners keep me awake, or would I keep them asleep?".

Lovely stuff.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – A Perfect Teenhood Lyrics 17 years ago
I can't help but picture in my head everyone who I'd want to say 'FUCK YOU' to when it gets to that part at the end. This is a song to stir up the blood.

Bill Bailey – How Can I Feel Pain? (American Rock) Lyrics 17 years ago
I thought it was about this American teenager wanting to be angsty and angry like teens 'should' be, but feels like they can't because his/her parents are 'too kind', if there is such a thing.

Yourcodenameis:milo – I'm Impressed Lyrics 17 years ago
I love the contrast between the scathing verses, and the retreating chorus, seemingly sarcastically applauding someone for achievements that aren't as great as they might be making out, then revealing that the singer would just take the 'easy road out of here' anyway.

The 'All you had to do was beat the best' bit isn't in the lyric book, so I tried to work it out from just listening, I'm open to suggestions as to what it may be.

Sigur Rós – Glósóli Lyrics 17 years ago
In all honesty, the song didn't overly impress me when I first heard it live a couple of months before Takk came out... but when I saw it with the video, it suddenly made perfect sense.

the_creek, I'm exactly the same as you. That moment when he plays the drum and they run up the hill, it just makes me cry. In a fantastic way. It's just so pent-up with emotion, it's something truly amazing.

Sigur Rós – Untitled 4 Lyrics 17 years ago
Those aren't the 'real' lyrics at all, that's the winning suggestion in a competition that sigur-ros.co.uk ran a few years back for people to submit their own interpretations, and what they think the nonsensical words could mean.

There are no lyrics in this song, it's just sound. Jónsi's singing is essentially an extra instrument in the ensemble rather than a tool for delivering lyrics.

Snow Patrol – An Olive Grove Facing the Sea Lyrics 17 years ago
This song means a hell of a lot to me, I listened to it over and over during certain times of my life and so I came to associate it with those times and the people involved.

It just suggests to me a huge longing to be somewhere, or perhaps more likely, with someone, but not knowing how to go about reaching that place/person. The line "She just teases me, pretends she can't see me here" makes me think that 'she' doesn't notice the singer... not necessarily in a malicious way, but that's the way it makes him feel, and that's what hurts the most.

Snow Patrol – Making Enemies Lyrics 17 years ago
If you've not heard the song, buy the album it's from. Or if you're really opposed to paying for music, find your free downloads better.

It's the third track from their second album, "When It's All Over We Still Have To Clear Up". Just because it was released before Final Straw doesn't mean it's not out there somewhere, plus it was re-released last year so it should be easy, and cheap, to get hold of. And I recommend that you do, because it's superb.

South Park – Montage Lyrics 17 years ago
I've been browsing this site for a while, but I've only signed up now because I felt obliged to point out that this song WAS in South Park, and before it was in Team America. It was used in the season six episode 'Asspen' and was re-used for Team America.

And it doesn't bring to mind my favourite Rocky movie. But then, I already knew I wasn't American.
