The Doppler Effect – Beauty Hides In The Deep Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song. When it came out, my two Grandpas fell ill, during the same week. I listened to it often during long car rides to see them after they were moved to hospice. Now I've moved on, but sometimes I put this song on, and I think about what it meant to me.

Sadness is on,
Just one more moment
And I am leaving.
[All of us at some point in our lives will sit at the bedside of a loved one, engulfed in sadness, knowing this is the last time we will see them. We often take "one more moment" before reluctantly leaving and moving on.]

Few words on a small note,
While you are asleep
I can only steal away
That's how I tend to be.

There are things I never get to say,
The fear in me always in the way.
A broken heart never mended,
A hurt I can never forget.
[These two paragraphs always make me think of that point when that loved one is still alive, but isn't likely to wake up or be the same that you remember. Maybe they are in a coma. We often talk about the times we shared to that person, hoping that they can hear. We may feel regret that this person will not hear what we are saying after all, wishing we could tell them one last thing.]

[And then the title... ]
Beauty hides in the deep,
Beauty hides in the deep
But it's so hard to find,
Being wrapped up inside.
[This reminds me of the feeling that you get that things cannot possibly feel right, get back to normal after this person is gone. We know we must press on, but it seems impossible.]

I want you to know
I'll never forget you.

I want you to know
I'll never forget you.
[This last two lines speak for themselves. Powerful song. Maybe my interpretation isn't what the artist had in mind, but it touched me all the same.]

Atmosphere – Give Me Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is great.
Don't forget the great Ant beat.
I love it because it sounds so dry and empty, if that makes sense.
This is one of those songs that defines Atmosphere's great sound.

Kanye West – Apologize Lyrics 16 years ago
Heard this song for the first time when it came up on shuffle today. I can't believe it doesn't have any comments yet. Here's what I think:

Kanye dates this girl for a while back when his life is more normal, before he had a record deal and didn't have much money. This girl doesn't like the fact that Kanye's always gone and never listens to what she says. She's talking to him on the phone and the call gets dropped. She must think he hung up on her, so she gets mad at him. This girl seems a little unstable to me with this line, "Hate her when she’s mad but more when she’s passive."

So, she gets mad, moves away, and goes to another college without telling him. When he calls her back, he finds all this out from her mother, hence "Now I’m tryin to call
One ring, two rings, seven rings, eight rings
Her mother picked up the phone
Like she in school and she don’t stay here no more."

Kanye repeats the intro "I guess its more good women than men percentage-wise..." and you realize that it's describing how the girl feels, still deeply hurt by her relationship with Kanye and numbing the pain by focusing on school while protecting herself from being hurt again, saying she isn't into guys.

Sad song.

Slug makes a reference to "Smart" on the song Angelface. Does it represent a person? Is he referring to himself? Hmm.

Eyedea & Abilities – Powdered Water Too Pt. 1 Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is amazing and quite the head trip. I think it means that we cannot perceive things for how they really are because of how we take in the information, the senses and our brains. If we could somehow take in the world without using the senses we could get an accurate representation of it. We can't comprehend how our brains work objectively and so we don't know exactly how it works or if we can even rely on it to give us the true picture because we don't see it in it's entirety.

Important to note that the actual track names on the CD and the track names on Eyedea and Abilities website differ. I'd go with the CD. Someone probably just put them on their site wrong. This should be titled Sovereignty, the song before it is Liquid.

Yoko Kanno – Is It Real? Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a great song. He's pretty tired of how life's treating him. Thats all I got out of it. Beautiful. I especially love the (synthesizer?) after the chorus.

Atmosphere – Panic Attack Lyrics 17 years ago
Slug makes a point about the current state of drugs in the US. How we have an obsession with curing anything that we can think of with a pill. Also talks about drug use and how people use drugs for fun, which can have negative consequences. He's pretty much telling us not to use pills to solve our problems. Fun fact, Slug makes a reference to the song Gotta Lotta Walls and (I think) his own use of pills to either get high or just numb the pain.

Slug's giving a shoutout to the Midwest, where he's from. Love this song, as I'm living in the Midwest as well.

Atmosphere – Molly Cool Lyrics 17 years ago
To me this is about Slug really liking this girl, wanting to take their relationship farther than sex. But she doesn't want to and he's really torn up about it. She really controls the relationship. He lets her do it to him and continues to have sex with her with the hope that it'll be something more, but he knows that it won't and has some internal conflict because of it.

That's just me. I'm probably wrong.

Eyedea & Abilities – Liquid Sovereignty Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song, it deserves a comment or two...

To me, the rain represents the hurts, pains and suffering that all humans experience. By nature, we don't like it and try to avoid it. We would prefer to be happy and carefree all the time. But as Eyedea points out, without the rain, the pain and suffering, we cannot truly appreciate the sunshine, the happiness in our lives. We know that we can never be happy all the time, but just the same, sadness fades too and the "seasons change." He also comments that people try to hide when they feel down. We don’t want to show others when we’re hurting. The later parts of the song describe how "the rain" can be a good source of inspiration. He mentions architects and poets. Clearly the rain has inspired him as well with the line "I owe all my success to the rain."

I think you're right.
This song is great and seems to break the overall dark theme of the album.

KoЯn – Mr. Rogers Lyrics 17 years ago
Fred McFeely Rogers was never a Navy Seal. That's a myth. Well done, KiLLOggS, on the direct quote of Davis. Really makes sense that this song was influenced by a drug trip. Great song. Just don't go starting nasty rumors about Rogers, because he made an impact on a lot of people's lives. Okay, rant over.
