Well, I didn't bother reading 3 pages of comments, so I apologize if this has been said before, to me this is all about a man who wants a woman and can't have her - whether she's with someone else or just doesn't want him back, yet she teases him and comes to him for help when she's "hurt" (you come on like a woman in suffering, don't even bother now to tell me why) Blood stained hurricane refers to the woman destroying the man's heart like a hurricane would a small town. "You carry on like a holy man pushing redemption" refers to the woman asking him to forgive her for past mistakes and how she hurt him - yet goes on hurting him. The man is aware of his feelings, he knows he's stricken and he is neither willing to nor able to let her go. "Into the Abyss will I run" - In biblical literature, abyss refers to a bottomless pit; to the underworld; to the deepest ocean floor; or to hell. (straight from Wikipedia) - she drives him to a depression that he can't get out of. The second verse is pretty much repetative - he keeps going on about how much she hurts him, how much he can't go on knowing she will continue to hurt him so badly ("With a holocaust about to happen" - which I think is a BAD choice of words - but that's just my humble opinion). |

That Hellview story is an urban legend, I think. It's poorly written, and They mix up the characters! Chad was killed, but they're charged with Derron's murder? How about the story's not dated. How about this song inspired the story? consider that one too. I think that smartbunny has it pegged. Some mental patients ("The Silence is deafening") trying to escape "Hellview" (sounds like Belleview doesn't it?). They are trying to escape, but their tired ("We're hours awake") and are being tracked ("And the only mistake that we made is we bleed"). Their paranoia makes them run away, yet their trackers are gaining ("And their hunger for the living helps them hunt it with the greatest of ease"). meathoof's theory's good too ;) |

I didn't bother reading 7 pages of comments, so excuse me if I repeat things that's been said before :) This song has a big spot in my life at the moment as I'm sort of... stuck in place. The way I see it, this song, together with what Gobsow wrote on page 1 (the song being about the fact that you're the only one who can make your own desicions, and not delaying them), is about being unable to move on and get over something that happened to you, for example, dwelling on a lost love (take the lighter side of the phrase and think of a break-up). All your friends tell you to move ahead, not to think about her/him. "What are you waiting for, a certain shade of green?" in my opinion has a literal meaning here: Light is green, the road is clear, GO! DRIVE! MOVE ON! He's actually wondering why his friend ("you") is not moving on, putting it in literal terms, as opposed to emotional ("Are your muscles bound by ropes or do crutches cloud your day")? With "Would a written invitation signed choose now or lose it all / sedate your hesitation or inflame and make you fall" I think he's going back to the sarcastic world as if he's saying "Are you waiting for an invitation to move on? You need to choose your course of action, if you don't do it now you'll lose more than you have." (not as a threat, but a fact). "You've been raised in limitations but that glove never fit quite right, the time has come for hand-me-downs..." goes towards implying that "you" set your own limitations in life, but those limits you've set are too small for you - u need to travel outside those moral borders, they are what's that stop you. |

Although this song really sounds like Mike is saying goodbye to his bandmates, to me this song is about losing something or someone important to you and having to deal with moving on. Basically, as I see it, "Like a snake between two stones / It itches in your bones" relates to that awful feeling that eats you from inside when you're really hurt. "Take a deep breath and swallow your sorrow tomorrow" - Take a deep breath, forget what happened, go on with yourlife "It won't begin until you make it end" - If you don't dwelling on the pain, it will not go away and you will not be able to go on with your life "With a new face you might surprise yourself" - can go towards the big cliche - "I can't go on with this life"; so smile (a new face) and carry on, you may like what you find out there. "So raise it up and lets propose a toast to the thing that hurts you the most" - Usually, toasts are proposed when celebrating something with someone. as i see it, the speaker is telling his friend they can celebrate his pain and sorrow as they are now behind him and he can go on This song, along with "Falling To Pieces" took a good friend of mine through his own downward spirtal into depression last year. |
