Fleetwood Mac – Silver Heels Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Certainly Stevie Nicks was not Fleetwood Mac's only mystic...Bob Welch would certainly fit that bill. I love the references to Paul McCartney and Etta James in the chorus. Rarely does Macca get much respect, so the mention is a neat tip of the hat to him. |
Badfinger – Get Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Supposedly "Get Away" was written by Joey about needing a break from all the hardwork the band was putting in ...Joey wanted a break while Pete kept working on his songs! The sentiments are ironic since Joey's songwriting dominated the Ass album from which this song is taken. The song rocks hard and is a lot of fun to listen to. |
Badfinger – When I Say Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Easily the best recording of a Tom Evans song. It's an honest lyric about loving someone, about offering someone your best and making a commitment to try. The musicianship is impeccable, and builds like the very best Badfinger songs. Tom's lead vocal is beautifully subtle. |
Badfinger – You're So Fine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Terrific Mike Gibbins song with a slight country rock flavor sung by Joey Molland with Pete Ham. The song rocks along with great guitar work and wonderful Badfinger harmonies. The track shimmers and should have been a single. A great love song! |
Badfinger – Love Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A beautiful Joey Molland ballad, and one of the finest songs on the great Wish You Were Here album. A love song...presumably to his wife, Kathie. |
Badfinger – Without You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Musically, far more satisfying than any of the cover versions. The guitars interplay with the organ slowly coming in builds to a stunning climax. The song is the results two separate songs by Pete Ham and Tom Evans being put together much the way John Lennon and Paul McCartney once did. Pete's vocals are, as usual, beautiful and soulful. Tommy's vocals seem a little tentative on the chorus, and it might have worked better had Pete sung the chorus, or if Tom had been more sure of himself. Nonetheless, the song is sadly beautiful. |
Badfinger – Where Do We Go From Here? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great Tom Evans song. Lyrically, it's like a letter to a friend who is down and out. One of the high lights of the "Badfinger" lp. |
Badfinger – Sweet Tuesday Morning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A Joey Molland classic. Perfect song for Straight Up, although I saw Joey perform it solo in concert a couple of years back and it was just heartbreaking. A song of love, of knowing the one you've fallen in love with has fallen for you. Wonder if the souvenir Joey sings of could be the Beatles? |
Badfinger – Love Is Easy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Odd song from Joey Molland. Has a lot of potential, but needs to be reworked a bit. In parts, the lyrics do not sound finished. |
Badfinger – I Don't Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A neat ballad that builds to a great climax. First rate collaboration between Tom Evans and Joey Molland who sing in unison. The song is recorded in the style Badfinger was exploring during the No Dice era...with layers of guitars and keyboards helping to build the song before falling back. |
Badfinger – I'd Die Babe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Should have been the 3rd single from Straight Up. A great bopping number from Joey Molland. Simple song of love (Joey was not confident about the lyrics, but producer George Harrison told him they were fine.) The song is a neat pop rocker with a great guitar solo. The organ part is simple, but effective...and sounds like what Linda McCartney was doing in Wings around this time! |
Badfinger – Just A Chance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Reportedly a plea from Pete Ham to Warner Brothers not to lose faith after the first album Badfinger did for the label did not sell well (and had no hits.) Regardless of the inspiration, the song ROCKS! Would have made a great single in the power pop tradition of "No Matter What" or "Baby Blue". A wonderful blast of guitar pop that should not be missed. |
Badfinger – Do You Mind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Inexplicably left off the Ass album when released in 1973, but added as a bonus track to the CD, "Do You Mind" is a really sweet Joey Molland song. Some bootlegs have better versions, but the sound quality is not great. |
Badfinger – Andy Norris Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A great little Joey Molland song! It rocks like the Ramones did years later, but it's more than a snippet of a song! Lots of references to the management/money troubles the band had at the time. Sly reference to Joe's earlier "Suitcase" from Straight Up. |
Badfinger – Constitution Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Probably the most metallic song in the Badfinger catalog...you either love it or hate it (sorta like Helter Skelter.) Great lyrics from Joey Molland, the most underrated member of the band. |
Stephen Stills – Love The One You're With Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Tom Rapp (of Pearls Before Swine) also wrote and recorded an answer song called "Love/Sex": I want to meet somebody, That I can talk to. I want to meet somebody, I can make love with, not to. Bodies on bodies Like sacks upon shelves. People are using each other, To make love to themselves. And we all use our bodies As a place to hide And meet all the other bodies With people hiding inside. If all that is touching, Is just what you wear, I guess that not sharing, Is the only thing we share, Somewhere. Somewhere we lost real love, Somewhere along the line. They say get it while you can, Get it while you can, But don't get left behind. And if you don't love The one that you're with Why don't you just Wait for the one that you love? And she'll love you, too. Today I met somebody That I can talk to. Today I met somebody I can make love with, not to. She says love will get you Through times of no sex Better than sex will get you Through times of no love. We wrote that on the wall, We wrote that on the wall, We wrote that on the wall, And why don't you Write that on your wall, too. |
Stephen Stills – Love The One You're With Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great description of ths song tikbalang. Too bad Melanie's 'answer song' never got released...it's called "I Just Can't Do It If I'm Not In Love (And I'm Not In Love With You")! Smack! |
Rod Stewart – Mine For Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This Paul McCartney song is about rebuffing the groupies and (female) hangers on after the show, and going home to the one he loves. The song really is more fitting to McCartney's lifestyle at the time than Stewart's. Stewart does a fine job with the song, and had it been released at another time during Stewart's career, it might have been a smash. Still, as a Macca fan...part of me wishes it had been saved for Venus and Mars. |
New Radicals – Someday We'll Know Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Great song...check out the Hall, Oates & Rundgren version. |
Poco – How Many Moons Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Stunning. A song of longing for the one you love. From the opening guitars to the closing harmones from Timothy B. Schmit, the song is one of the most beautiful in the Poco catalog. The band was down to Paul and Rusty at this point, and for the Inamorata album, Richie Furay, George Grantham and Timothy B. were back as guests to add vocal parts. And while some fans dislike the album for abandonning the country flavor for a more pop sound of the time, the vocals were the best on a Poco album since "Indian Summer". "How Many Moons" is a Poco gem that should be heard. |
Poco – Bitter Blue Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Bitter Blue" is a sadly beautiful song from Timothy B. Schmit that was a highlight of the amazing Cantamos album. As this song shows, Timothy is a soulful lead singer as well as a master harmony singer. And the musical back up from Paul, Rusty and Tim make the song more powerful. One can't help but wish that Timothy would ask Paul and Rusty to help out with his solo work since they added so much in terms of texture and passion to many of his Poco era songs. Tim's songs beginning with "From the Inside" in 1971 to his three songs on the Indian Summer LP are great. |
Poco – Livin' In The Band Lyrics | 17 years ago |
What a classic! "Livin' In The Band" is a wonderful history of Poco from Paul Cotton's perspective in 1977. The song ROCKS...great work from Paul, Tim, Rusty and George...wonderful harmonies from Tim and George, and killer guitar and pedal steel interplay from Paul and Rusty. Thirty years later, I still get a big smile during the solo's in the middle...when Paul is playing, it's straight ahead rock and roll, but when Rusty's pedal steel kicks in, it's rocking country. One of the greatest moements in the band's catalog Anyone who thinks Poco was/is a bunch of soft rock wimps need to hear this great song/recording. Belongs on every Poco compilation from the ABC years. |
Poco – 20 Years Lyrics | 17 years ago |
When "Indian Summer" was chosen as the single from the album of the same name instead of "Twenty Year" or "Livin' In the Band", I was terribly disappointed since both of those songs rocked! (No slight intended toward "Indiana Summer", which is a fantastic song.) "Twenty Years" has a great R & B flavor that is highlighted by Paul and Rusty trading guitar solos. George Grantham and Timothy B. Schmit are in top form as the band's rhythm section here, and Tim's harmonies are, as always, great. Should have been a single...and it should have been included on the recently issued "Poco Gold"... |
Poco – Heart Of The Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
An abolutely brilliant Paul Cotton song. As the followup to "Crazy Love", it hit #20, but deserved to be a much bigger hit. Paul's r & b flavored tribute to New Orleans combined with Rusty Young's amazing pedal steel work is classic. If Poco is only remembered for one song, "Heart of the Night" deserves to be the one. |
Paul McCartney – Junior's Farm Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Junior's Farm" seems to make some political statements about inflation (rampant at the time) and about Nixon, but the gist of it is that things out of one's control will drive you crazy if you let them. Nonetheless, it's the tune and the performance that make this song a jewel. It's a top notch rocker, and Jimmy's blazing solo holds up well. One of the finest Wings singles. |
Paul McCartney – It's Not True Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The version on the B-side of the "Press" 7" single should be on CD! It's a great song, presumably in defense of some of the many attacks on Linda. A great song...one of Paul's lost classics. |
Paul McCartney – Winedark Open Sea Lyrics | 17 years ago |
A beautiful work from Off the Ground. The song could be a sequel to "Maybe I'm Amazed". Years later, Paul realizes how life sometimes gets in the way of appreciating the one he loves. So, he asks they both to open their hearts to fully experience the love that binds them together. Sailing on a winedark open sea works as a metaphor for life...they are going through life together as the mystery of their lives and the future unfolds. The beauty of the song is marked with sadness because on a few years away Linda would be taken away. But most people could only dream of finding the love the two of them shared. |
Paul McCartney – 3 Legs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Interpreting this song could be tricky--who knows exactly what it is referring to, but then the meanings of many songs are not straightforward. Nonetheless, this funky acoustic blues song is quite charming. Paul sings the song effortlessly from soft to gritty. No one makes music like this anymore, but that God Paul did...and that he's still gracing us with his wonderful music. |
Melanie Safka – Lover's Cross Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Melanie's cover of the Jim Croce song is stunning. Almost any time Melanie covers a song, she makes it her own. (See Dylan's "Don't Think Twice) "Lover's Cross" will break your heart. |
Paul McCartney – Dear Boy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Beautiful song with wonderful harmonies by Paul and Linda. Not about John Lennon at all (do most of Paul's songs have to be about John?) It's actually written to Linda's first husband, Michael See. If, as reported, Lennon thought the song was aimed at him, perhaps it's from his own guilt over how he treated Cynthia. |
