this song is off of the bonus fat album and if your lucky you can get it included with milo goes to college. in my opinion its their best two albums. their new stuff isn't very good. but this is a kick ass song. this is when punk rock was real, when it meant something. makes you wanna jump in a pit and kick ass. |

this song really means a lot to me because a really good friend of mine is exactly like the girl in the song. she runs away from life through alcohol and now she's currently a heroin addict, doing tricks to get cash for her dope. I wish I save her cause I know what its like to be drug addict but the only thing I can do is wait for her to come to me. great song. great album. great band. |

what a song...I cant even begin to describe what it means to me....He sounds like a such a wise man in this song like he's going over his experiences and just humming a tune to them all...he kind of is I guess in a way... he's always been able to be so down to earth...and able to sing to the blue collar, hard working person who fights to survive....this song to me is about the ups and downs of life but you have just got to keep fightin....just a wonderful album in general..he gets better as the years go on..he's always been so mysterious to me..my favorate line is "I sleep in the kitchen with my feet in the hall, sleep is like a temporary death."..simply beautiful. |

beautifully sad song...I can feel how lonely Elliott was at times in his life...this song is absolutly amazing...I love the harmonies..how he records over his own voice....Its about wanting to be with someone who brings you meaning and happiness to your life but you know that if your with that person, you'll just bring them down..."If I went with you, I'd disappoint you too."..you might go looking for drugs to help you escape the feeling of loneliness and hopelessness and then you find that you've dug yourself a hole...your just yearning to be loved..thats what I get from this song..it brings tears to my eyes at times just listening to it...."Because your candle burns too bright..well I almost forgot it was twilight.." |

This song really helped me through my drug and alcohol addiction...it was just kind of like a one way road that was headed nowhere..and I turned into this person that i disliked..like a crashed credit card..I was doing and saying all these things and I was living a lie...Elliott had that way about him...He could write a song and understand exactly what somebody was going through..."You turned white like a saint..I'm tired of dancing on a pot of gold, flake paint.." |

It was one of the first songs that Elliott wrote and recorded in Portland..He had no intention of letting anbody hear anything from this album..I can just picture him quietly singing into the microphone in a little corner of a basement..just him and his music..this album just hits me on such a personal level...this song means to me having some type of miscommunication between you and somebody else, whether it be a girlfriend/boyfriend or a family member or just someone you know..getting into an argument because you cant get on the same page..and then a tragic accident occurs and your just sitting wondering what you could have done differently...I love how Elliott describes the alcoholic next to the fair with the hat on and the bottle of liqour he cant get rid of...it could be about being detached from everything and just trying to stay touch with the things that are important to you.. whatever it may be doesnt matter.. what matters is how the song make you feel and how it relates to your own personal experience. |

I've unfortunaly have had my own experiences with physical abuse from my old man..and its not something that anybody should experience..I can completely understand how Elliott felt as went through it..how you just want to hurt that person and you feel bursts of anger from inside that you dont know how to get rid of...you wanna make them feel what you feel...He says it at the end of the song. I am also happy to see that so many people have taken there time out to contribute a little something to Elliott's music, whether its what they think of the song or what it means to them..I think that this song has a lot to do with his relationship with his step father and how uncomfortable he was in Texas... he has said often how much he hated living there...and i can hear in this song that he may have felt that it was all out of his control..and that he was shocked of how his step father could act the way he did and not feel remorseful about it...Elliott certainly wasnt very happy down south untill he escaped up to Portland...I think that his experiences as a child could have had a lot do with his instability that he unfortunatly had as an adult.. |

Its possible that Elliott made reference to the catherdral with stained black glass that was across the street from his house in Portland...I love the courus "Its just a brief, smile, crossing your face. I can remember getting high, getting a fix and just giving a sigh of relief, like a brief smile as its said in the song...fortunatelly I've done my best to put those dark days behind me but it always amazes me how it seems like all his songs are chapters of my life.. |

Elliott did feel guilty about signing with Dreamworks..he felt like he didnt deserve the attention, that he was just like everybody else in the Portland music scene..but he cant help it if his music has touched so many people..I mean, he was simply a genious when it came to understanding certain things and putting down the way he felt about something on paper and then turning it into music... I love how he changes the last verse around a little during his live shows " Be forever with my broken arms around you"... he rarely did a song the same way twice if he could help it. he may have wrote about the way the music industry came at him all too fast and how its hard to handle success and fame...its just goes to show that somethings arent as good as they seem...He was such a down to earth person and caring to all people...He will always be remembered |

Elliott wrote a lot of his music in bars, subways when he lived in New York, or just at night in general..He often made references to the moon in his songs.. how it just hovers over us all.. shining its light through the night...its a real trip being stoned on dust or speed and just staggering around in the night with your head looking above...their has been countless nights where I have just walked around the streets with my hand clutching a bottle of liqour and just going wherever my feet take me and hanging out with whoever I meet along the way...He mentions how some people think they know everything, whats good for you and what you should do.. when really most of the time people dont even know the questions nevermind the answers..including myself....."The moon is a lightbulb breaking..it'll go around for anyone..but it wont come down for anyone, and I wont come down for anyone.." |

Elliott has said in interviews that this song was a big" f*ck you to anybody and everybody". I used to think it was about heroin too but after listening to it a million times and really thinking about it.. i dont think his music was really pin pointed on any one thing.. he wrote a lot about inadequacy, not feeling part of society.. this song means to me about being out side of something and looking in, wishing you were apart. its such a dark and myserious song, but thats the beauty of it. nobody will really ever know what he meant by it because only he will know.. but he has said often that their isnt one meaning to his songs, they can mean whatever you want them to mean.. thats why he was such a beautiful person and a musician as well. I love this whole album how it starts off with needle in the hay which sets the mood for thewhole album and then finishes with te biggest lie. its a complete masterpiece... |
