I love the album version of this song but recently I came across a YouTube video of Nelly performing a slowed down version of this song on her european tour. It's AMAZING! I like it better. You should all check it out. |

Madonna – Rain Lyrics

I go back and forth as whether to be able to call this my "favorite" Madonna track simply because it's so hard for me to choose. However, this is def in my top 3. The melody and harmonies are gorgeous. Probably her best vocal ever. The instrumentation is so smooth and calming and then it sort of explodes in the middle only to wind back down again at the end, just like a storm. I've probably listened to this song at least or twice a week for the past 10 years. And don't even get me started on the video.

Jem did write the original lyrics to this song when it was originally intitled "the one," however, it was later given to Madonna in which she changed most of the original lyrics. |

Madonna – Live To Tell Lyrics

There is a little bit of truth to that theory Feyo. Patrick Leonard had the instrumental to this song and brought it to the head of the studio that was making that Sean Penn movie with the intentions that a man would sing on the track. However, Sean Penn recommended to the director that Madonna record a song for the film and thus, Live to Tell was born. Apparently, according to a Billboard interview with Leonard, Madonna took the track to the back room of the studio, wrote the lyrics very quickly, and recorded it in one take. He said, "the original mix was so rough you could hear the pages of her notebook being turned in the background." |

Madonna – How High Lyrics

StefanKras, I disagree and agree with some of your statements. First of all I disagree with your comment about her lyrics. I think that a lot of people, even her fans, take her lyrics just at face value or the messages in her songs are sterilized by the environment in which they are played (i.e clubs, etc). I also believe that because Madonna is such a visual artist and her own interpretations of her work are so strong, it sort of gets in the way for people to use their own imaginations to determine what the work means for themselves. Overall, it is sort of a blessing and a curse for Madonna because by doing so it sort of simplifies the messages in her music for fans aka her interpretation is the only interp.
I'm not generally speaking for all people, but as a huge fan, it's just something I've noticed when talking with others about her work. |

Madonna – Future Lovers Lyrics

Spaceraceman, the last part of your entry:
"This was a perfect song for the intro of the Confessions tour. This song segued into "I Feel Love", the disco hit. People are fond of saying that God is love. She combined them as if to say "I Feel God". We are all future lovers."
That basically sums up Madonna's brilliance. |

Madonna – Drowned World/Substitute For Love Lyrics

Well ownen the novel is thematically more complex than what is immediately apparent. A theme throughout Ballard’s writing is the idea that human beings construct their surroundings to reflect their unconscious drives. In The Drowned World, however, a natural catastrophe causes the real world to transform itself into a dream landscape, causing the central characters to regress mentally. The novel features a central character who, rather than being disturbed by the end of the old world, is enraptured by the chaotic reality that has come to replace it.
I think the video for the song featuring all the photographers and lights and other chaotic energy kind of relates (metaphorically) to the book in that sense. The fame/ hyper-reality sort of acts as a chaotic distraction for what's really going on. Her daughter, however, being the one thing that offers a sense of common ground.
I dunno, that's just my interp. |

Wow, I'm surprised that no one has commented on this song yet. This is my favorite song on the album and the lyrics are pretty straight forward. I also like the addition of Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks) on background vocals. |

Garbage – The Trick Is To Keep Breathing Lyrics

I do know for sure that this song was based off the novek of the same name and that it was inspired by one of Shirley's close friends. The best part of this song for me are the string arrangements and how they seem to carry you from one part of the song to the other. I also can't get enough of the lyric, "maybe you'll get what you want this time around." Amen to that. |

I agree. Best song on the album in my opinion. Amazing lyrics.
"Run towards the hills to avoid the high flood
I can do a dance that will make the sky cry blood.
Skills provoking
Seals will be broken open
All that's left to do is try my love."
ahughguguhhhh! SO good. I just sharted. |

Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous (featuring Timbaland) Lyrics

I admire artists who take risks and drastically alter their sound or start taking their work in another direction instead of sticking to the same old same that is all too common in the pop music atmosphere. While hip-hop/rap may be dominating the radio right now, along comes Nelly Furtado who pulls off an album that is by far more interesting, original and unique than her contemporary counterparts. |

It makes me want to take a shit in myself when I hear someone say "it's good for a cover." THIS IS NOT A COVER! Anyway, this song is better than anything Gwen put out in the past six years. |

Nelly Furtado – Say It Right Lyrics

I don't know how a great, inventive work like "Maneater" would convince you that Nelly lost her touch. Actually, I think it's MORE refreshing that this album is a further strech from what she's been doing considering most pop artists these days repeat their same old shit over and over again. As for "Say It Right," for me, it's my pick for record of the year. I love it. It's simple, yet thoughtful lyrics, heavy beats and gorgeous ambient string backdrop are perfection. Some of her best work. |

Wonderful Song. I believe I read in an interview that if she could have written any song, Beyonce chose this one. I just love how it builds up to that gorgeous guitar solo by Santana. |
