System of a Down – Lonely Day Lyrics 16 years ago
I want to comment on the "most lonliest" part:

In Norway we have an expression called "smør på flesk". Directly translated it's "butter on bacon". It means something like "once is enough". I'm sure there is a similar expression in english. I believe the reason they use "most lonliest" is to emphasize just how lonely the day was. Neither butter nor bacon was sufficient to get the point through. Therefore "most lonliest". At least that's my theory.

Anathema – Judgement Lyrics 17 years ago
amusiga:

I completely agree with you. Makes the hair stand up in my neck every time. I also think it's a pity that it does not end with vocals and calm down.

Btw: The first verse is not in the song. Where does that come from? The album cover perhaps?

Sirenia – A Shadow Of Your Own Self Lyrics 17 years ago
Hard to tell. I think this is about a guy who leaves his loved one, but ends up regretting it. It might also be a possibility that he murdered her, and the guilt burdens him; "Tell me now you sinner, still lost in your secret world" and "Stretch your arms out for the fire for another dark desire".

Anyway, one of the best songs ever made. Makes the hair in my neck stand up every time I hear it.

A relationship gone bad? :)

Tantric – Breakdown Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this is about someone who is having a lifestyle that's bound to lead to problems eventually.

Perhaps a song about alcoholic problem. I'm thinking about the line "your lies your world is built around two faces of a clown", indicating that you pretend that everything is normal in some situations while in others you show who you really are. And both faces are actually a joke.

Also the line "so you better check yourself before you check out" might be about admitting that you have a problem.

Great song anyway!

Bad Religion – Struck a Nerve Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this is a song about guilt. It's about the way we close our eyes to things we don't want to see.

Pink – Family Portrait Lyrics 17 years ago
Who IS that girl who's playing the younger Pink? She appears to be a brilliant child actor. I think she's going to be world famous.

Samael – Angel's Decay Lyrics 17 years ago
GriZzmo:

Great analysis! My precise interpretation of the song. What puzzles me is the song title. Why "Angel's Decay" and not "Angel's Rise" or something like that. After all, it's the body that decays and not "The Spirit". Any thoughts on that?

Vision Of Disorder – Downtime Misery Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the song is about being ashamed to admit you have problems, and don't have the courage to share it with anyone. Therefore you take the problems out on yourself.

One of the most aggressive songs I know, and I like to hear it when I'm pissed off. Alleviates the anger. =)

The Kovenant – Hollow Earth Lyrics 17 years ago
Never thought of the irony in saying that we are destined for Hell when the song is about the complete pointlessness of existence. I think it's best to use Hell as a metaphor for death.

Basically I think that their point is that it's no use to try and make a difference, cause we're all going down anyway no matter what we do.

Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics 17 years ago
Thom's comment really says it all. It's the saddest song ever made.

But there is the line: "Immerse your soul in love". Some have touched it already; we just go about with our "happy lives", denying that we're going toward a certain doom.

I say; you're all going to die - you might as well have a little fun while you're at it!

One of the best songs created.

Pain (Sweden) – Not Afraid to Die Lyrics 17 years ago
Brilliant song! In my opinion Pain is one of the most underrated bands ever. Perhaps a bit too negative even for me :p

I think this song is about having suicidal thoughts. Or perhaps drugs. Or maybe a combination.

The Offspring – Staring At The Sun Lyrics 17 years ago
Thanks to sk8erdude148 for clearing up the meaning of this song. It makes sense, and shows that The Offspring is deeper than you might believe.

Awesome song btw. One of the best by Offspring.

Metallica – For Whom The Bell Tolls Lyrics 17 years ago
Completely agree that this is about the insanity of war, and certainly shows that Metallica are both cultural and intelligent.

This I a song I never get tired of. It still blows me away every time I hear it.

I also think the S&M version is very powerful.

Paradise Lost – No Celebration Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe this is a song about depression. A person who feels like a new year is nothing to celebrate because there's nothing to celebrate. It also touches the fact that it's hard for people outside to understand such a depression ("you just don't care").

Lacuna Coil – Purify Lyrics 17 years ago
Beautiful song.

Personally I think it's about someone who have finally ended a relationship that hasn't been working for a long time. It's never easy to dump someone, and especially if you've been together for a long time. When you do, everything falls apart, but you realise that is was the right thing to do.

That's my interpretation anyway.

The Kovenant – Star By Star Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this is an existential song. We started out from a big nothing, and will cease to exist just like we were created, be it by the corrupt and self-destructive nature of humans or by the inevitable collapse of the universe.

Pain (Sweden) – Dancing with the Dead Lyrics 17 years ago
I love the dark, gloomy lyrics by Peter Tägtgren. This is another masterpiece.

Like many of his songs, I believe this one is about drugs. Dancing with the dead I think can be interpreted as "Flirting with death" or "living on the borderline to death".

Also, the chorus goes "Too much was never enough". The more you take, the more you want, and you can never get enough even though you know it's bad for you.
