French Kicks – This Could Go Wrong Lyrics | 13 years ago |
So, I was initially surprised that no one had posted these, but then upon trying myself, I began to understand. Much of this is guesswork--very hard to make out a lot of the words under the "aaahhh"s. Parts I specifically had trouble with: the whole "out of this hum" verse and "all of it come". If anyone has any other guesses, please contribute. |
Menomena – BOTE Lyrics | 13 years ago |
How about Bring On The End? Though Back of the envelope works pretty well, too... |
Menomena – TAOS Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. First off, I don't really have a problem with their song titles, and I think they definitely think about them to some extent. If you didn't give a shit, why would you name a song "Oh Pretty Boy, You're Such A Big Boy"? Kind of a mouthful for "not giving a shit". Also, note the frequent pun titles: "Muscle'n Flo", "Rotten Hell", "Queen Black Acid" (That might be one only Portlanders get, oh well...) Anyway, the REAL point in favor of TAOS being an acronym is that INTIL is clearly an acronym for "I never thought I'd lie", a line from that very song. Ergo, it seems safe to assume that the other capitalized tracks on this album are also acronyms, especially given that "The Art of Seduction" fits this track so well. |
Menomena – TAOS Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I'm guessing the acronym is The Art of Seduction. Yeah? The real question is: what does BOTE stand for? (Aside from that song obviously having a lot of boat references...) |
LCD Soundsystem – Dance Yrself Clean Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Are these official somehow? Cause I'm hearing some different things. Such as: "Present company EXCLUDED every time" "Present company EXPECT IT" (rather than "expected", makes more sense.) "You're throwing marks into pieces" is wrong, but I don't know what it is. That just doesn't have enough syllables. "It sort of makes it BREED" (less sense, I know, but there's definitely a hard "d" there.) "But THERE'S a string of divorces" (Or something like that. It's definitely not "like".) "This BASEMENT has a cold glow Though it's better than a bunch of OTHERS" "IT'S YOUR SHOW" x4 What's the extended word after "Work a little bit"? "AND YOU GO" (followed by "Stop" repeatedly) "It's as though he's home with you" is wrong, but again, I don't know what it is. Also, the first "Present company accepted" should be "excepted", it's a saying. Other than that, thanks! This song is fantastic. |
Titus Andronicus – The Battle of Hampton Roads Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I would go with "each one will FLY in the face of your idea of success". |
Volcano Choir – Island, IS Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'd agree with leahper, but I read somewhere that these lyrics ended up being a very meaningful stream-of-consciousness type thing. Also, I'll make all those changes, carpe, as I can't decipher them any better. |
The National – Slow Show (Demo) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Okay, interesting read, but um...Look at their song, also on the Virginia EP, called "Blank Slate", which has the same line in it, and is called "blank slate", not "black slave". I think the chorus to this version is WAY better than the album version. I wish the song was: Album verse, Demo chorus, Album verse, Demo chorus, Album outro/bridge. Because that outro is the best part of the song, hands down. |
Lackthereof – Chest Pass Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's "row me under", not "rowing under". But that's a tough one. Also, "This hell's not big enough for two". Great song. |
A Weather – Pinky Toe Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is one of the best songs I've ever heard. |
TV on the Radio – Blind Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm hearing: "So I'm sending an open letter to the perfect girlfriend" "before WE find another noose to fit us" (both times) "open letter to the legions leering" "are we entertained yet?" "gaze into the moonlit clearing" and then "My LIFE, my LIFE is a sucker bet" and it's definitely not "sycophant", although that would be cool. beautiful song. |
The Veils – Calliope! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Great song, but this is missing a large chunk of lyrics: after the last chorus here it goes: What's there left to believe in What's there left to believe in And the whole way looking down Tore my heart and ripped my crown I've been falling for you I've been falling for you I've been falling for you, love What's there left to believe in? ---Then the chorus again. THEN: Do you still need me at all? You're all I've left to believe in. Also, I'm pretty sure that in the chorus, it's not "If I were to come for you" but "if I were to CALL for you" I love the veils. |
Menomena – Air Aid Lyrics | 16 years ago |
yeah, it's written as "airaid" on the album art. |
Fujiya & Miyagi – Photocopier Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm getting: A photocopier hunts your low-magic orchestra I got so, I got so, some more of syllabic you butchered your SETLIST harp of their universe I flatten your stomach like Joseph(?) pilates Je m'appelle David, avez vous fait un photocopier? (My name is David, did you make a photocopier?) So yeah, I'm not positive about the word "hunts", but it's definitely "low-magic orchestra", he just puts the accent on the second syllable. I love this song/band. |
Battles – Atlas Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow i dunno, i never understood any of the stuff other than the chorus, but for that I always heard: we need to work we need to work we need to work together or something to that effect I like everyone else's ideas beter |
Menomena – Ghostship Lyrics | 17 years ago |
just wanted to mention that i think this is in 7/4 time...or some strange time signature. And it's amazing. |
Queens of the Stone Age – In The Fade Lyrics | 17 years ago |
just wanted to appreciate the amazing bassline of this song. brilliant. |
Menomena – Cough Coughing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't think the first few lines are right... it's: my hand is ONLY THERE and redirect your SNEEZE and THE spittle leaves a SMEAR and I can't wash off and I think its I'll wash behind my ears... but other than that yeah. great great song |
Iggy Pop – Sweet Sixteen Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This riff is one of the best ever. And I can't find a guitar tab for it anywhere!!! it's driving me nuts. And it's called Sixteen...btw |
Menomena – West Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well that sort of makes me sad, but they make excellent music so I'll keep loving them. |
Menomena – Evil Bee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Thanks for the clarification. But im kinda iffy at least on this song, because if the "invisible friend" is in fact Jesus, then the "o, to be a machine" part would be seemingly saying that his followers are like machines. |
Pixies – Space (I Believe In) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The song is, as will said above, about the tablas player. If you listen carefully, you can hear the tablas in this song. And Francis probably threw in the d=r x t bit because of the song by that name (they were probably working on it around the same time). There a story all about this jefrey in the Fool the World oral history of the pixies book. READ IT! |
Menomena – West Lyrics | 17 years ago |
See my comment on the Evil Bee page. And go here: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/10262-guest-list-menomena-my-favorite-cassettes-i-was-allowed-to-listen-to-age-7-15 They're not real into the christian thing as far as i can tell, but it definitely seems they were raised christian (or at least danny and justin). |
Menomena – Evil Bee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
im not so sure about that. I'm almost positive that two of them, justin harris and danny seim, were raised christian and went to christian high school together, but they're not really into it anymore. I don't know about brent knopf. For evidence, Danny wrote a list for Pitchfork of his favorite cassettes that he was allowed to listen to as a kid, and it's all christian rock, but he's making fun of it the whole time. here--> http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/feature/10262-guest-list-menomena-my-favorite-cassettes-i-was-allowed-to-listen-to-age-7-15 |

Menomena – Wet and Rusting Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think its "you never expected". Awesome song, great video. |
Menomena – West Lyrics | 17 years ago |
good with the "initial" bit, i'll fix that, but i disagree with all the "concept album" theories that everyone is coming up with. These guys write their lyrics separately, from what I understand right before they record the vocals, and whoever records the vocals writes the lyrics. I don't think they organized it to be a big concept or anything. Each song stands on it's own. and each is amazing. I think the west is the west, and hes expressing the fact that the history books don't really tell you: the emotion that went into expanding the nation, or really the emotion that goes into anything. It's more than just names and dates. |
Menomena – Boyscout'n Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it was about actual boy scout experience, and how it's basically advance military recruitment. |
Malajube – Casse-Cou Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I speak a bit of french and ive got: Name of a dog you sing like a cat still patient one day you'll be able to smile like me name of a dog you sing like a cat Jesus cries out again, harder I had trouble hearing you Oh, name of a dog, you (make dump?) Hum ~~~ Interesting... |
Menomena – Rotten Hell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that could be right, but i originally saw it as a more personal thing. Like one friend insisting that they're right, and anyone with a different opinion can rot in hell, and their friend may be one of those people. and then the bridge part (well it's high time...) kind of adds to that.. but then again Lazy's idea is just as good. |
Menomena – Air Aid Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah I dunno what it's about. I think the "cover your ears.." part is like "see no evil, hear no evil.." and the "bring me a kite.." is a benjamin franklin reference. The kite with the key in the lightning storm... |
Menomena – My My Lyrics | 17 years ago |
good one. thanks. i'll fix that. |
Beirut – Mount Wroclai (Idle Days) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
love this song...but i think he actually says "mount" before the wroclai each time... you can hear the "m" sound |
Menomena – Running Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it's "before the cows come home" naturally |
Menomena – Weird Lyrics | 17 years ago |
2nd verse is: you always had the quickest wit the quickest quips and I can't keep up It's clear that you have a real gift of gab and I'm just jealous maybe that's the way you and I will always relate and i think its "how i sincerely feel DARE stand in my way" and "it's clear that you ahve your own set of plans" love this song!!! |
Menomena – Boyscout'n Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is actually called Boyscout'n. just thought i'd mention that. |
