Under Byen – Det er mig der holder træerne sammen Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Direct, non artistic translation: it's me holding the trees together it's my mind keeping the city foggy it's me floating cold on the bottom of the river it's me keeping the bird hearts going it's my steps that keep you walking it's my fault/mistake (or "fall" - can't tell) when the cars collide it's me beneath the tires it's my slight shake that vibrates in the cones, the trees it's my sighs dripping in the park it's me when the wind kisses beneath your coat |
The Knife – We Share Our Mother's Health Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Coming from Scandinavia I didn't really get the themes about Mother Earth or nature at all. To me it was about socialism and the American Dream, a journey to America and the confusion about the need to appeal to an American audience. ie.: We came down from the north Blue hands and a torch The north being Scandinavia (Sweden), blue hands symbolizing the freezing weather (freezing hands) and a torch to symbolize the lack of natural lighting we live with up here. Red wine and food for free A possibility "Red wine and food for free -> a possibility" = as they themselves have said, they are very privileged and this enables them to see the possibility that America offers. We share our mothers' health It is what we've been dealt This particular line confuses me, but perhaps it is simply to point out that they are siblings. What's in it for me Fine Then I'll agree What can they achieve from going to America and do they really want it? "Fine, then I'll agree.", it doesn't sound convincing at all. Half-hearted, even. Trees there will be Apples, fruits maybe You know what I fear The end is always near There will be many good things but being a musician, USA-style, the end is always near. The market moves so fast over there and hypes artists to a point where they're sort of set up to fail at some point. You say you like it You say you need it When you don't Looking better Shining brighter Than you do And this is they key to the lyrics - it's really a pretty typical Scandinavian idea of America, Hollywood, the music industry etc.: you feel as if you have go to America, to be a success over there, to look better than you really do, to shine brighter than you really can or should in all the glamour offered over there. But then there's the never-ending doubt... is it really worth it? Am I selling out? Should I stay here and focus on an audience that really gets me? Do we really need this journey? Do we really want to be like this? Made perfect sense actually. Glad I wrote this down. It makes sense if you listen to the music too - the beginning sounds like engines (example a car or an airplane; there's a tiny bit before the real music begins that sound like wheels stopping). The music seems very determinate at first (we're doing it! we're going to America!) but then it sinks into this regretful or philosophical low (what have we done? I'm scared. This will end soon etc.) and all in all the music is very chaotic symbolizing the excitement and fervor of following a dream. |
PJ Harvey – The Last Living Rose Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This is a great song to introduce the rest of the album - how you miss even the bad things when you don't have them anymore is a great point and I think a lot of soldiers felt that void when they were sent away. |
Arcade Fire – Ready to Start Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is about starting over and facing the world, I think. It reminds me so much of breaking up with my ex and finally moving away to do what I wanted with my life, even though it was scary to face all of that alone. It's about growing up, to let go of false security and to accept that this period of your life will be rough and dark but being mature enough to not be afraid of being alone or sad. The line "You say, can we still be friends?" and the reply "if I was scared, I would" means, to me, that he's finally letting go and realizing that he doesn't need this relationship to live and that he'd rather move on than remain in it to feel safe. |
Best Coast – When I'm with You Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's so awesome, that feeling of being completely careless when you're with a particular person. Couldn't be portrayed better in a song than this. |
Arcade Fire – We Used to Wait Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Hmm, I got a completely different vibe than all of you. To me, it was about kids/young adults in the suburbs trying to find a way into the city. They send letters, college applications, job applications, apartment applications, etc. And all they do meanwhile is wait. Suddenly it happens, and their lives change fast but at the same time they feel as though they are losing their purity in the city. "I wanna walk again", ie., I want to feel alive again. The song is reminiscent of the time where all they did was wait for a letter to come back and how some people never escaped the suburbs - ie. "sometimes it never came". But maybe it's just because this mirrors my own experience with living in the suburbs and fighting to find my place in a big, hypnotizing city, and how it sometimes feels as though I spent the first 20 years of my life just dreaming about living in the city. |
Lykke Li – Breaking It Up Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Meh, this song describes every single relationship I've ever been in. I've never really been madly deeply in love, I suppose. Can't believe it takes a song to make you realize that. |
Lykke Li – Get Some Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is so awesome. I can't believe it's not getting more attention. I think it's about the sinful pleasure of using your sexuality to control another person. "Gon' go West", i.e. I'll take control and lead you. Or maybe she's just madly in love. :P |
Kristin Hersh – Your Ghost Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"It's the blaze across my nightgown" Wow! I see a subtle wind blazing through her dress, like a ghost flying past her. Such powerful imagery. |
Alanis Morissette – London Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's sarcasm. The lyrics are not logical, but the song describes a particular state of mind. Perhaps she just experienced this state of mind in it London. You know, that feeling where you are so tired and drained that you don't have the energy to do anything, and you begin to notice little, insignificant things? It's like nothing matters and everything feels grey and pointless. |
Fever Ray – Triangle Walks Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It could mean anything, really, which is the beauty of it. To me it seems to be about sleepwalking through life, never really sleeping but never really being awake either. It's like walking in a circle, only the edges are a little harder and it can be rough at times. Hence, triangle walks. :) But it's just a desperate interpretation, I think. :P |
The XX – Intro Lyrics | 14 years ago |
it's pure melancholic beauty |
The Rumour Said Fire – The Balcony Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The lyrics should be right, copied them from their myspace page. :) Really, this isn't a very known song, but anyone with an interest for Indie-folk-pop should seriously download this off itunes. It can't disappoint; I swear to god. :) |
Florence + the Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I actually got a prostitution-like vibe from this song. But I guess it's all the same, offering your talents for money, prostituting your voice, your body, your mind, it's all the same. Prostitution. Chaotic and endlessly beautiful. Love it. :) |
Florence + the Machine – Dog Days Are Over Lyrics | 14 years ago |
To me, it's about falling in love and how love can't be evaded, and also how infatuation can (temporarily) liberate you from a boring and mundane life. ^_^ So beautiful. Looooooooove Florence. |
Julian Plenti – Only If You Run Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Great song... to me it's about the dullness of a "normal" life. >.< |
Florence + the Machine – Cosmic Love Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Honestly I don't think this song is so much about being in love as it is about being in love unhappily. I heard this the first time on the radio, and the radiowoman said that the singer wrote this song while she was living with her boyfriend. To me, it's more about staying with someone even though you don't really want to, but you can't leave him/her for any number of reasons. "I took the stars from our eyes, and then I made a map And knew that somehow I could find my way back Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too So I stayed in the darkness with you" Maybe it means that she stayed with him, but had a backup plan if some day she couldn't take it no more. :) Just my interpretation. Definetely think there's some sort of dark/corrupting vibe to the song. Absolutely beautiful! One of the most touching songs I've ever heard. |
Alanis Morissette – No Pressure Over Cappuccino Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's such a beautiful song. It's amazing how Alanis, being heterosexual, can relate and grasp all the concepts gay people fight with everyday and then put them in a song. God. She's so talented. |
Alanis Morissette – Citizen of the Planet Lyrics | 15 years ago |
From my point of view, this is about feeling a deep connection with the world we live in, a higher state of awareness, where you understand every little thing and understand the connection between every living being on this planet, and where you really feel like you're a part of the greater whole that is Earth. If anyone is interested in this kind of spiritual awareness, I highly recommend you read Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth - Awakening to the purpose of your life". |
Alanis Morissette – Orchid Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Think it's about having people lick your butt and treat you for far more than your worth, simply put - and they're misreading her because they're so obsessed with achieving her praise. |
Alanis Morissette – Limbo No More Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow.. amazing. Definetely my favourite off the new album. |
Alanis Morissette – Madness Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's so beautiful.. I was sitting with my boyfriend the other day and we were talking about my future. I have no clue whatsoever as to what I want to do with my life, and he was telling me quite roughly that I need to step up and take some responsibility for myself. I was pissed and I really didn't think he understood me and my problems. But this song really made me realize that it's madness how I'm not even thinking about what the future should bring... and that what he's saying is right. So, thank you for telling me, love. :) |
Alanis Morissette – Not As We Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It being about a breakup is the obvious meaning, but it struck me the other day that it might not be about a breakup at all; but rather, a point in life at which you need to reevaluate everything you're doing, and start thinking for yourself, instead of letting other people guide you. To me, this song very much describes my life at the moment. Just finished an education I really didn't want, but people told me I would be right for it. And so I took it. But it's over now, and really, I stand at a crossroads in my life, so I gotta start over again - but this time, I as I, and not We as We. Get the point? :) I gotta search through my soul and make the choices that are right for ME - not the choices that would please everyone else. That is my interpretation of what this song is saying - it's not only about breakups, however, it could very well be. It's just a similar situation. |
Alanis Morissette – Incomplete Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, pretty much as #1 quoted Alanis, this is about how people see a finish line that they strive to reach, meanwhile forgetting life is happening right infront of them, every second we draw breath. So why not live now instead of expecting life to begin in the future? :) |
Alanis Morissette – Tapes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this song really hits the spot; we all have these "tapes" playing on repeat within ourselves, making us weaker and less capable... how do we overcome them? : |
Alanis Morissette – Giggling Again For No Reason Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Ah, such a liberating thought to just leave it all and take some time with just yourself x) |
Alanis Morissette – Torch Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow.. beautiful :O pretty simple song about how she misses a former boyfriend I believe... However, what does she mean with "torch"? What does it symbolize? Is it some kind of slang that europeans wouldn't understand? x) |
Amy Winehouse – Valerie (The Zutons cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
My guess is it's about travelling somewhere, falling in love and coming back home :) or just a person you haven't seen in a long time :P but she's definetely infatuated by him/her... much ala Dido's "Sand in My Shoes", although that was a little more sad. |
Björk – I Miss You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I thought the same as everyone here, until I watched the video on youtube. In one of the comments someone said that Björk wrote this song just after getting an abortion, and then I realized that the lyrics fit perfectly well on the emotional drama that women who has had an abortion goes through. :O Don't you think the song could be about that? |
Björk – Violently Happy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Love is indeed a state of insanity.. at least for some people x) |
Alanis Morissette – Your Congratulations Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't necessarily think it's about a boyfriend or a father. Could be anyone really.. we constantly search for approval, and we so rarely get it :( In my case it was definetely my father... |
Alanis Morissette – Mary Jane Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I have a friend who got a depression one year ago and this song fits immensely well on her. Just every single line. She's losing weight, she never wants to party with the rest of us anymore, she's constantly trapped in the past and never dreaming of the future in front of her... It's rough for everyone around her too. Can't put words on how much this song means to me |
Björk – Wanderlust Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Orange, think that line is about her leaving places for the same reason everytime x) |
Alanis Morissette – This Grudge Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think this has anything at all to do with hands clean and/or you ougtha know. Hands clean was not nearly as traumatic, and I don't think the "14 years" has something to do with her age. It's the amount of time the grudge has been alive. Also I don't get the impression that Alanis regrets that relationship, or that she was hurt so violently as this song implies. Hands Clean sounded so happy - like a good memory. This Grudge clearly isn't a very good memory. And You Ougtha Know? No, really, not... this song expresses regret, not anger. It's different feelings and although it's possible they all could apply to one relationship that would just seem wrong to me, and wrong if you listen to the feelings the songs evoke. |
Alanis Morissette – UR Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It could be about young Alanis and probably is, but I could definetely recognize the feeling this song evokes in many people who move to the big city where everything is so new and everybody at home is cheering for them. :) |
Björk – Earth Intruders Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Masupalami I think that's just a common mistake people make when they think about Iceland... there's not really that much ice, and actually, there was never that much. :) |
Alanis Morissette – Surrendering Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Think this is about a man who surprised Alanis with his persistence and ability to put up with her, and in the end, she ended up falling in love. :) |
Alanis Morissette – Precious Illusions Lyrics | 16 years ago |
As hinted by the music video, I think this song is about the dream of the prince on the white horse, and realizing he's just not gonna come to save you.. ever! This song is about waking up, letting go of childhood illusions, and finding out who you are, so you can finally let go of these dreams. |
Björk – Cocoon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Wow, Amazed that I'm the only one who felt this way about this song: I think this song is about a girl who lost faith in men, and ended up building a mental cocoon that kept her same from harm, but at the same time kept every man in her life at a safe distance so a man would never be able to hurt her again. This song is the moment she finally lets another man get close to her, and she finds that he pulls her out of the cocoon, restores her blisses, and finally she feels alive again. :) Really, only me who felt this way about this song? Wow, thought it was obvious. :O |
Björk – All Is Full of Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think there is one meaning to this beautiful piece of art. To me, this song seems very sad, and it always felt more as a comforter to those of us who just can't find love. :) |
Björk – Pagan Poetry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To me it sounded like forbidden love and the pain of loving someone who doesn't love you and maybe someone you're not allowed to love. As a gay person this reminds me a lot of how my love for other men is often frowned upon, almost as if it was forbidden. Sometimes, it does feel like pagan poetry. :) |
Björk – Hyperballad Lyrics | 17 years ago |
To me, it sounded more like a really difficult relationship. When she throws things down the mountain, I see this as the things that frustrates her every single day that she has to ignore just to be able to stay with this guy. She loads these frustrations overboard, and forgets them... but maybe it's not helping. That would definetely explain the tragic tune of the song .. |
Björk – Earth Intruders Lyrics | 17 years ago |
For me, this seems more like a view of the primal humanity taking over the planet and harming nature in so many ways. We're "intruders" because we are the only race capable of standing out and actually damaging nature, no other creature on this planet could ever do that. The fact that she mentions "skeptics" means that not everyone is doing this, but then she says "forgive this tribe", which, to me, means that she still feels part of the earth-intrusion. Anyways, that's how I understood it. :) |
My Chemical Romance – Cemetery Drive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
obviously you could always find someone who'd be pushed by a song to do something stupid, but the majority of listeners just enjoy the song and maybe they even find it comforting... did you ever consider that? :S but seriously though, everyone will say they've gone through shit in their life, it just so happens that some were blessed with the energy to pull themself back up and some weren't... we're not all the same and we're not all as strong as you are or claim to be :\ for example if you were bullied for 8 years, one day finally found a friend and he/she introduced you to drugs, alcohol and the likes, not to mention you've never felt confident any single fucking day of life, you were abused as a child, your dad was an alcoholic who hit you and your mom on a daily basis THEN where on earth does a human being find the inspiration to suddenly get an education and become a so-called 'leader'? No, that's not my life-story I'm just trying to prove the point that not everyone can help themselves... |
My Chemical Romance – Cemetery Drive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
and to you [yournamehere], seriously, who the fuck are you to tell everyone what real music is and how wrong everyone are? Go back to your pathetic narcissistic life and go back to feeling that you're better than everyone else... we don't need your crap here. Go on. |
My Chemical Romance – Cemetery Drive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Chockie you're really an idiot.. people don't start slitting their wrists or thinking about commiting suicide just because of music. You've apparently had an easy life and never had to worry about having low self-esteem and feeling hurt for more than a few weeks... gah, I'm sick of you people. You sit on top of life and tell everyone to just pull it together, meanwhile not realizing how fucking easy everything's been on you... |
Cher – Strong Enough Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ledskynyrd, how dare you. She is the queen of disco! :P |
ABBA – Fernando Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Im not a master in spanish but doesn't "Rio Grande" just mean "big river"? If that's the case then it doesn't have to hint Mexico. :o |
Beyoncé – Irreplaceable Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think Beyonce really broke out of her usual ass-shaking straightforward MTV role and finally we get to see another side of her feminicity... I loved this one. :> |
