The Promise Ring – Make Me A Chevy Lyrics
| 11 years ago

I think it's about liking someone, but feeling inferior or like you can't give them enough. It's not necessarily that negative, though...it's like "hey, I'm not that great, but you should still stay". |

Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics
|
I posted this on Youtube, but whatever...there's a cool dualism between the sacred and the profane here, i think. on one hand, you have the sacred with the reference to jesus, and then the profane in placing details of his story into a more personal context. but, rather than the two opposing one another, as one would usually assume they should, brand new kind of allow the two to complement one another. i mean, it's been done before (see: leonard cohen), but it's still pretty damn awesome.
Also, this song sounds uncannily like Hum's "Apollo", who Brand New definitely took influence from, anyway. |

The Jesus and Mary Chain – Just Like Honey Lyrics
| 12 years ago

I find it funny how so many people are insistent on denying the obvious sexual implications made in this song. So what if it's about oral sex, even at least partially? Just because it's dirty, it doesn't mean that the two people involved in it don't like each other/love each other/whatever.
As has been said, I think the other obvious interpretation is that it resembles a relationship, but it's ridiculous to deny the sexual overtones, since this whole album is rich with them and that's part of what makes it so great. In that sense, I love how dirty and raw the production is...pretty much goes perfectly with the sexual side of Psychocandy. |

This is definitely Black Flag laughing at surfer jocks. Also, Ginn wrote the lyrics, not Keith or Henry. |

Japandroids – Young Hearts Spark Fire Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
I doubt the lyrics were intended to be analyzed to the level that some of you seem to be doing it. When I think of Japandroids, I just think of being young, free, and having a good time.
Sure their lyrics are awesome, but their purpose seems to be more in backing up the music than standing out on their own. |

Arab Strap – Amor Veneris Lyrics
|
I just got into this band, because of the vocals Aidan did for Mogwai on "R U Still In 2 It", which is an amazing song for those that haven't heard it. I absolutely love what he does in this band though, his lyrics are emotional without being cheesy...sort of sexual and casual at the same time, I love it. |

At the Drive-In – Skips On The Record Lyrics

This song is awesome, but the intro riff sounds almost identical to the main riff in the Sonic Youth song, Schizophrenia.
This song almost seems like a tribute to Sonic Youth with the way it is. |

Refused – Rather Be Dead Lyrics
|
They may not have pioneered hardcore, but they're considered one of the most influential bands in the genre. They themselves are the perfect example of a post-hardcore band.
Anyway, besides that this is easily one of their best songs. Especially because of the "viva la revolucion" clip in the beginning, it speaks of the difficulties which people face in rising above the limitations they have in society. But the "rather be alive" is important, because it goes on to say that despite all the difficulties they face living it their way, they wouldn't want to "be alive" by someone else's design, and freely is really what makes life worth living. |

Thrice – That Hideous Strength Lyrics
|
To me it's pretty clear that this song has religious meaning to it...
"Without you I am lost.
Let mine eyes not fail with looking upward."
From what i know Dustin is a devout Christian so it would make sense, but nevertheless these are some awesome lyrics...i still have yet to hear this song, anybody know which album it's on? |

In Flames – Evil In A Closet Lyrics
|
Throughout the song, he addresses his relationship with this person as a thing of the past and gives the impression that this person they care so much about no longer cares for them, but for another.
"Yell at me, I want to be your light that shines"
It could possibly be that there was conflict between them, but in the end he still wants to be the one that's with her, rather than another person.
"I wish that I could say...I wish that I could be your evil in a closet"
The "evil in a closet" relates to the "monster in the closet" that so many people feared in their childhood. He basically means that even though he's become something that she hates (like a child hates the "monster in the closet"), he still wants to be close to her in some way. |

Mastodon – Aqua Dementia Lyrics
|
To me the basic message is that even though there are a great deal of people out there who strive to preserve our earth and protect it from pollution and things of that sort, the people that don't give a shit are obviously the majority, so they are essentially the ones determining earth's fate. Whether or not the guys from Mastodon are pro-environmentalism and whatnot, I don't know, but nevertheless this still remains one of my favorite songs from them :) |

Mastodon – Crystal Skull Lyrics

maaan, if we I was to define 'metal' the definition would have to be Mastodon...
I mean you can't get more metal than this
the touch is cold
i tore a path screaming
through wind and blood
i will it all
burning deep in my skull |

Marilyn Manson – Angel With The Scabbed Wings Lyrics
| 17 years ago

I agree with sic98, but also i think that the songs sort of mocking mass media who think of him as this satanic-rockstar-monster, because if you think about it, the way he portrays himself is how he is portrayed by the media. But then on the other hand, Antichrist Superstar sort of has a theme anyways, so it could be based around that. |

haha i can't get enough of Zach's vocals, ther just soo unique and it seems like he should be the only one to sing their songs, cuz the whole revolutionary thing just fits him so well...haha its good tom morello never does lead vocals, i heard his solo stuff and his singing is garbage |

Marilyn Manson – Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand) Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
this is actually in reference to Evan Rachel Wood, cuz the first time he met her on the set of some movie, she was wearing 'heart shaped glasses'...something along those lines, he spoke about it during an interview that u can find on his site. and yea alot of people were saying how emo the album is and 'different' than his older stuff, but manson's never done the same thing twice with his albums, and if he did the same thing as before he would just be criticized...honestly at first i hated the album, but once i listened to it a few times it grew on me, and im really glad that manson has been able to impress this many people with his album |

All That Remains – Focus Shall Not Fail Lyrics

lol ATR sound nothing like In Flames, they sounded a lot like At The Gates on the first album but lately they've made songs that are obviously metalcore (ie stuff of This Darkened Heart and The Fall of Ideals) hahahha i still dont get how they can sound like In Flames...soooo fuckin dumb |

All That Remains – Not Alone Lyrics

lol its not like anyones trying to insult your beliefs or anything but why wouldn't it be about a chick? Usually when you really love someone and you're pissed off cuz of whatever else, its the bond with the person that keeps you going through hard times...as gay as that sounds haha
but thats what i like about bands like KSE and ATR, ther some of the few metal bands that religious and non-religious ppl can relate to in their own ways |

Over and over again, Page's acoustics never cease to amaze me, and in my opinion they're better than his "harder" stuff. This song brings out all my negative emotions and forces me to face them...as weird as it sounds lol |

Led Zeppelin – Going to California Lyrics

My old guitar teacher talked to me about the meaning of this one...he thinks its about the great depression in England, and how many people were forced to move overseas to America, and you and you can sort of see proof of this when "mountains and canyons" are mentioned in the song, because they have the Rockies in the U.S... |

I find it amazing that Led Zeppelin III was considered one of their worse albums in terms of sales, because the beauty of this album is so astouding...I can just listen to it over and over again. However, this song takes me to another level, definintely one of their best ballads. |

Marilyn Manson – Man That You Fear Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I might not be right, but I'm pretty sure when he thought of the line "the boy that you loved is the man that you fear", he was at his cousins wedding, and him and his cousin were really good friends when they were smaller, so when he thought of that line I think he realized just how different he was from everyone else in the end. |

Marilyn Manson – The Speed Of Pain Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
This is by far one of my favourite Manson songs, and I especially like it because it can be related to in so many different ways. I especially like the line, "Just remember, when you think you're free, the crack inside your fucking heart is me", cuz its so powerful, and in the song its almost as if Manson meant to accentuate it. To Manson, I think this was about his problems with cocaine... |
