Ben Harper – The Drugs Don't Work Lyrics | 17 years ago |
just listened to the verve's version and i am gonna have to say that i do like bens much more it seems more melancholy and well real |
Ben Harper – The Drugs Don't Work Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree this song is amazing. to me its about being in love with someone who has a disease or a problem and their last hope, the medication, is failing them. |
Her Space Holiday – The Weight of the World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree, i think the song is about, this girl losing her faith, she tries to go through the motions for a while, "But you still walk in his light And say the same words every night: I pray the lord my soul to keep What about the rest of me? " after trying to live her religion and getting no results he last hope or her faith is crushed and she hangs her self |
Her Space Holiday – The Good People Of Everywhere Lyrics | 17 years ago |
most definately "You take two of these before you go to sleep and when the morning comes your mistake will be done" same things that he had them give your song. it makes me think of all the failed utopian societies combined with suicide cults. an eerily awesome song |

John Vanderslice – Up Above The Sea Lyrics | 17 years ago |
perhaps i am confused but i thought that by killing the albatross the ancient mariner condemned himself to tell his tale to relieve himself of agony, not to bring himself freedom. and aren't albatrosses usually white or brown, not blue? i get the bird reference but it still seems off |
John Vanderslice – Me And My 424 Lyrics | 17 years ago |
is it possible that he uses the nude descending a staircase to contrast his own work? the nude descends the stairway once again basement living always mends i'll come to you then shell shocked pale gray a box of TDK's and me and my 424 that particular painting challenged the limits of the era driving people to look forward. i think vanderslice is encouraging people to look back. coming to them after they have suffered the shell shock of being modernized with his retro active recording techniques. reminding them that everything that comes the past isn't a terrible thing. |
Five Iron Frenzy – One Girl Army Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think this song is about the sanctity of women and how our modern society degrades them. Since the time of Mary we have been making progress in the role of women, but today steps are being taken to undermine that progress (ie magazine covers that focus on sexuality instead of respect). By becoming a "One Girl Army" women today can further their cause by standing up for what they believe to be right. |
Mason Jennings – Amphetamine Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song makes me think of that one person that you can never seem to get out of your system. you may try to break it off but you keep coming back. as the song progresses he tries to cope with the withdrawls he is having because she leaves him "What am I going to do Now that she is gone What am I going to do What does this world mean Without my little white skined girl My mean Amphetamine" she is addicting just like a drug |
Mason Jennings – 12/8 Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is about a girl that he has been in a relationship with in the past and she cut it off. however now she wants him back and he doesn't want to take her back. "she planned my funeral and left me for dead a single corpse in a double bed but now she's standing on my front porch" she wants back in but he wont let her because he knows that she isn't a genuine person. mason is brilliant as always |
Ben Harper – Morning Yearning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I believe that the song is about waking up in the morning and wanting to improve your life. "Another day, another chance to get it right Must i still be learning." persistantly trying to get better. |
Ben Harper – Faded Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song makes me thing of attempting to remember a failed relationship but as time progresses you can only remember certain aspects, everything else becomes faded. all that is left are the very prominent negative memories that one dwells on |
Mason Jennings – California (part 2) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that this song is about going to find his lost love. in "california' Pt one she leaves him for the state, and now he is back to win her love again. he is willing to make the changes (at least locataional changes) to make her happy. he is making himself perfect for her. |
Mason Jennings – California Lyrics | 17 years ago |
While i can see the reference to acting the rest of the song seems so sincere that i have to question whether or not he means that he is a leading man as in the best. he does say "Don't you know baby I'm a leading man I dig down deep when I say I love you And I can hold my own with the best of them I guarantee you, you will never see nothing like this again" it could mean that he is one of a kind and if she leaves him she will never have another man that is as good. or atleast they will be hard to find |
Audio Learning Center – The Shell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love the imagry in this song. To me it is about hiding in side of yourself. he wont let the girl that is in love with him get close because he has layers and layers of pain and fear that make up his shell. as suchg he doesn't feel anything for her. |
Pinback – Bloods on Fire Lyrics | 17 years ago |
agreed i think it is about death but possibly one that was caused by the singer. "Sit outside, Penetance Just let me know: just sounds regretfull to me like he had something to do with it. and the whole calm yourself. calm yourself. like calm down its over i am killing you |
Ben Harper – So High So Low Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think that that He has given up on the girl things started out well enough but it was to much and she drained him. he has nothing left and nothing to lose "...you'd be dead and i would be in jail..." i can identify very frustrating |
Mason Jennings – The Mountain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that this song is about loss or the return of pain. i think it is interesting that he uses the metaphor of a bird here as something that destroys him while in "birds flying away" darkness is also represented as a bird that his girl banishes. perhaps this song is about the return of lonliness. the pain that comes from seperation |
Pinback – Messenger Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i find the idea of the messenger causing his own pian (the death of his lover) very interesting and the fact that he attempts to but can't saver her is evenmore depressing. i love this band |
Pinback – Seville Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree with shoreline the newer version tops the original with a funky guitar line. and amazing drums that are a bit more pronounced in this version. i love the new cd |
