Ok this reply is five years overdue, but I'm going to leave it here in case it helps anybody...
I read your comment before seeing Okkervil about five years ago, and couldn't get this definition out of my head. I couldn't see this interpretation in the lyrics at all, no matter how hard i tried, but never imagined someone on the internet just made it up or lied (i have so much faith in strangers). So it bothered me up until i saw them live. The story you tell there, is exactly as he tells in concert, just like your friend remembered, only to explain a DIFFERENT Okerrvil song. I can't for the life of me remember which one now, but its definitely not for Black.
Now I know this is years too late, and I don't know why i woke up this morning deciding to set the record straight, but maybe it might be some use to someone, just to know that a stranger wouldn't lie online, that you aren't making this up, just mixing it up.
For the record, I'm absolutely positive this song is about the molestation of a child. |

I love the line "I'm playing with fire IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN" and i'm like "Fuck ya i know what you mean goddamn hell ya!!!" love this song cos it's got that spacemen 3 mess of noise but you can still hear the poppy structure even when it starts goin mental! BLISTERING |

Another person here who was blown away by this song on Austin City Limits, I'm watching it on loop as we speak. I tuned in for Wilco (who were awesome) but this guy is top class too. Got his album Post-War there and its excellent. Was some show, even had Jim James performing Golden. |

It doesn't say "As long as you won't be burdened" it says "As long as you won't be, but"!! congratulations, by changing one word u managed to feck up the whole meaning of the song. its supposed to be bitter and spiteful, not caring about the other persons burdens. stop ruining beautiful songs!!! |

One who lives to choose another fool's dream." is he referring to E from the eels, sounds like him. Im a huge E fan so it meant so much to me when i heard this, Eels and My Morning Jacket are as good as it gets |
